A dream deferred…

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up 
like a raisin in the sun? 
Or fester like a sore– 
And then run? 
Does it stink like rotten meat? 
Or crust and sugar over– 
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags 
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

I like to think of it exploding into something better than the original dream.

For years, I have wanted to visit London and this was going to be the year I did  it.  I saved up my Skymiles and Marriott points and I was going!  Well…enter Life.  I have had a lot of unanticipated expenses in the latter part of 2013 and 2014.  I didn’t want to use credit cards, so I used some of the money I have been saving for my trips.  And…I think I have decided to not go to London.  Even though flight/hotel is “free”, I still have to eat and do the touristy stuff.  That adds up.  I also am going to Essence this year, Italy for 10 days, and Disney for 3.  In addition, I need to visit my parents.  A lot of stuff happening.

So my dream of going to London will probably now be deferred to 2015.  But now maybe I will plan to get over to Paris as well.  Or stay in London longer than 4 days!  Or go with my sisters/mom.

The dream can and will be bigger even though its deferred.

Weekend Wrap-up!

I haven’t done these in a while so I figured…why not?

On Friday, I was off for a corporate holiday but came in anyway.  The plan was work half a day adn then hike at the mountain.  Well, I was here longer than anticipated and then it was raining!  Grrrr….

Well, since I was still leaving work earlier, I decided to make these meatball sandwiches and can you say YUM?  Thanks, Ernise!  Ever since I read this post, I have been craving homemade meatballs.  I did like Ernise suggested and put in smaller containers to freeze.  Tonight I will have spaghetti and meatballs for dinners.  I ended up making aout 40 mini-meatballs…which is a lot.

One thing I would do different?  For the mini sandwiches, I would make them square…like a burger.  It was unnecessarily messy. Next time I make it,  I would do half as “burgers” and the other half as meatballs for pasta.

Saturday, I did some cleaning and ran errands.   Saturday evening, I took myself out on a date!  I went to a restaurant called Ecco in Midtown and then saw the Lion King.  It was lonely…but nice.  The only thing I got from Ecco was the Goat Cheese…and I was so tempted to order another.  Why do I love Goat Cheese so much?

The Lion King was good but around 10, I was getting so tired!  I saw a lot of parents carrying their kids out (why would you bring a 7 year old to an 8PM show?) and I was like…I want someone to carry me out!  I was glad I went.

Some of the upcoming musicals I want to see are:

  • Dirty Dancing
  • Motown the Musical
  • The Little Mermaid
  • Wicked (of course)

I also wouldn’t mind seeing Newsies and Pippin.  I am considering getting a subscription.

I normally wait to buy tickets in case I get a date/friend….but I think i am going to just go ahead and purchase so I can block it out on my calendar.  Because really?  No one wants to go!  People say they want to, but when its time, I end up going alone. *cues violin to play a sad song*

Anyway…it’s not that dramatic…I am just tired of asking people and they say yes and then “something” comes up.

Sunday was also Easter and historically, me and the boys go to non-denominational sunrise service at Kennesaw Mountain and then we hike.  The service is actually pretty good and how else to feel close to go other than being so close with nature?  Other than traditional church of course 🙂  But I was feeling lazy (and it was kinda wet) so we didn’t.

I also had tennis and lost 😦  My team is with work and we suck.  Last in the league.

Overall, I had a great weekend!

Randoms again!

For some reason, I can’t come up with a coherent post…just random ramblings.

  • I made it to Tennis playoffs…I was so excited.  Then I realized anyone who wants to goes to playoffs.  They do it like the NCAA championships to get a City Finalist.  It’s cool though.
  • My tennis team for doubles is with people at Work and jeez…they suck.  I really want to move to a better team.  And its not the playing…its the everything else.  They are like children.
  • I binged watched The Following over the weekend.  I was all psyched to start watching Season 2…and its not available (for free).  Womp.
  • I am starting the Fringe.  Been wanting to watch it for a long time.
  • I am going to Bruno Mars, New Edition, and Essence this year.  🙂
  • I was watching RHOA/twitter and the jokes people made about Kenya losing her dog were horrible and not funny.  People are so cruel and mean.  I don’t like Kenya but something she loved was mauled right in front of her.  If you can’t be nice/sympathetic, say nothing.
  • I hate that people are so mean about people loving pets.  I still cry about and miss all my pets that I have lost.
  • So…my ankle has been bothering for probably more than 6 months.  I randomly limp and just ignore the pain when it hurts.  I can’t describe it so I don’t know what kind of Doctor I should probably see.
  • My bookclub did a joint meeting with Diva Lit…and talk about inspired!  I have been a member for 10 years come July and so many things we used to do, we just stopped.  But the 10th year will be our biggest yet and I am so excited!
  • Diva Lit is going on a trip and everyone in my group was all like Oh…we should do a trip.  I can’t get $75 from these bi-atches to go to Helen for 2 nights.  No way I am trying to organize a trip but anyone else is welcome to do it…but no one will.  I hate that.
  • Have you ever had a revelation and been like…why have I not noticed this?  This happened to me!  All the signs right in my face that I ignored.
  • London in 60 days!  I can’t believe I am finally going!
  • Gator Girl asked me for a crockpot recipe…and that is when I realized how little I cook!  Ernise posted a meatball sandwich recipe and I may try that one this week.  I like recipes where the leftovers are just as good as the original and meatballs typically are good.
  • Lifetime is doing an adaption of A day late and a Dollar Short by Terry McMillan.  I read it a while ago but need to reread before I see the movie again.

Random’s Random’s Randoms!

It’s been a while since I posted since I don’t feel I have anything to say!

  • I LOVE this time of year!  It’s just so pretty before the pollen gets too bad 🙂
  • I am trying to make it to Kennesaw a couple of times a weeks because again…just so pretty.
  • Tyler Perry’s newest was essentially a bust.  Do you people know what that means?  MORE MADEA!  GAH!  We are showing the studios we want Madea instead of real movies.  I refuse to go to a TP movie after Temptation but….sigh.
  • I can’t find a partner for flex tennis.  I asked someone who I played against in singles and waiting for her to let me know.
  • Overall I did pretty well this singles season.  I won more than I lost.  I have 1 more game tonight and if I win, I think i am in the playoffs!
  • I found a place that rents cabins that is pet friendly!  No additional charges for pets and they have fenced in yards.  I am going to go there for my birthday weekend.
  • This lady has a dog that looks exactly like Shai-ming and when I see her pictures, I feel she is stalking my boy!  And then I remember…but it always takes me a minute.  I am always like…why does she have Shai-ming as her screensaver?  Why is Shai-ming on her wall?  This has been going on for about 2 years.
  • I almost had a job in NJ! A previous coworker called me to work up there with him.  I was all set to make that move…when I backed out.  The move was simply applying…but he re-opened the posting for me.  After we talked more in-depth, it just didn’t make sense for me to move and he is going to give my information to the offices here locally so maybe something will happen.
  • I go to London  in June but I really need to crack down on getting my itinerary together!  4 days to cram it all in!  I am so excited. I still can’t believe I have never been.
  • I never cancelled my cable…and I honestly don’t know why!  Why can’t I shake the cablemonkey off my back?  Why?
  • I got access to a boatload of books…and I swooned.  I love to read and wish I could do it more.
  • The library still rocks.
  • Still doing the 40 bags things…but not daily.  I lasted about 11 days with doing something everyday or doubling up.  Its been maybe 4 days since I de-cluttered/cleaned an area.
  • Why does time go by so fast?  I met up with a friend on Monday and she asked me about my pregnant niece.  The baby is 2 years old!  The last time I saw her was more than 2 years ago?  Jeez.  I have to do better.
  • I have been trying to make new friends…but it’s almost impossible as an adult!  Everyone has schedules and finding a place to sync is so difficult.
  • Orphan Black is so good!  It’s on Amazon Prime if you want to watch it.
  • Our healthy team mapped out how to walk a mile in the office to get some activity in during the workday, and everyone is doing it!  Which means about every 20-30 min, I get interrupted by someone who is walking.  It’s great…but distracting.
  • I almost gave up on Walking Dead…but this past week brought me back into the fold!
  • I am 80% given up on Scandal.  They are just messing up a good show with that B316 silliness.  I don’t think Olivia has fixed a case in 2 years!  How are the bills being paid?  And whoa…Olivia looks preggers!  I hate all the coats they have her in to cover it up.  I wish they just wrote into the storyline that she is having Bro-liva’s (Harrison) baby.  THAT would be awesome.
  • Supposed to be beautiful weather this weekend in Atlanta…enjoy it!

Goodbye Stuff!

There comes a time where you look around and say…What am I doing?  That’s what’s happening with me right now.  I have a lot of “stuff” and unnecessary expenses and I am going through a de-cluttering process and re-evaluating my expenses.

I am doing 40 Bags in 40 days challenge.  Basically the concept is everyday until Easter, you de-clutter an area.  Do I have 40 bags?  Probably not…but do I have 40 areas that could use de-cluttering? Yes!  For example, my guest bathroom.  There is “stuff” under the sink.  But I have no clue what it is which means, I don’t use it.  So…cleaning that out would be great.  Or even organizing whatever is in there.  I cleaned out my guest bedroom closet and found 2 pictures that I could put up in my downstairs bathroom.  The pictures were perfect and I didn’t even realize I had them!

From an expenses standpoint, I wanted to get rid of cable…but the TV junkie in me won’t let it go…so I called and complained/threatened to cancel and they reduced the price by $20!

I also cancelled Audible, Spotify, and Huluplus.  Cancelling those 3 things saves me more than $30 a month…and I honestly rarely use any of them. I was using Audible a lot but now that the library has gotten better selections, I simply wasn’t using it like I had in the past.  I like Spotify but that was something else I wasn’t using like I should for $7.99 a month.  Pandora will work. Huluplus was rarely used since I have Netflix and Prime. I thought my father was using it…but he wasn’t so it goes!

I also cancelled my Satellite radio…in-spite of them basically trolling me with great deals!  It’s tempting and would be less than $5 a month…I just don’t listen to it enough.  I am really enjoying audio-books in the car!
