Canning season and I'm getting bigger!

Image

It is yet again that time of year when we harvest and spend time canning.Image We have canned peaches, tomatoes (and still canning tomatoes), and apples. The boys love to help peel the apples and it becomes a fun family project.

Brook sits, watches, and eats the "goods" while we do the work...oh well, she looks cute anyway.

This picture is the beginning of August and as you can see, I have a good bump indicating I am in deed pregnant (yay, no longer in the "people can't figure out if your pregnant or just gaining weight" stage!)

Here I am bigger...and feeling it.

I have a friend that is due around the same time I am, and she took a picture of what she saw when she looked straight down. Needless to say, I see a little less than she does. Never-the-less, I do think my toes look cute.Image

Logan's accident and a very exhausting week.

Image WARNING: This may contain some grusom info, so if it's something that will make your stomach turn, skip the reading.

To make a long story short, last Monday afternoon Logan was sneaking outside through the "little" garage door where the other kids were playing (he was supposed to be on time out). Our A/C was on high which makes the garage door slam hard when the "big" garage door is open. Well, he pulled the door shut and in seconds, before he could do anything he had slammed his finger in the door; he jumped up and pushed open the door crying hysterically.

My sister Katey was a few feet away and I was upstairs putting laundry away. She saw him bleeding and rushed him up to the kitchen sink as I was racing down the stairs. I grabbed him and put his finger under the water thinking he'd cut himself...it took a split-second to realize that his fingertip was missing! My heart sunk for my little boy and immediately I felt my adrenalin kick in as well as worry and shock that we were really dealing with this trama. At that point I told my sister to get a towel quick and I put it on his finger applying pressure.

He continued to cry while I held him with his arm up, trying my best to comfort him. It was a blessing that my sister was with me, she went back and got his fingertip, put it in a bag of ice and gave Logan Tylenol as we rushed him to the car. My sister stayed with Caleb & Brook while my neighbor, Lori across the street rode with us keeping his arm elevated and singing primary songs with him while I drove 90 getting to the ER.
Jon met us there and was able to give Logan a blessing with the help of our Neighbor's husband (I am so grateful for the priesthood). We asked for a warm blanket and Logan was able to fall asleep in the wating room.

It seemed like we waited forever before we were seen. When we got back into a room the doctor there wasn't sure they could sew the tip back on, I insisted that she do everything to try. She told us that there was a Dr. in the hospital that just happened to be working that night and he was a specialist surgeon; and she would call him to see if he could help. 40 minutes later she returned with the news that the specialist definately wanted to sew it back on and felt that everything would be fine. We were so happy and relieved however, Logan was still in for more pain as they prepped his finger and numbed it. He fought back tears (and so did I knowing he was hurting and scared) as the nurses explained to him what they were going to do. He was very brave though and it was a blessing to get him some relief.

The Doctor who sewed his finger did a wonderful job and was so kind and calming.
Image The picture above is the night we came home, he was so exhausted. Logan has to wear this arm cast for two and a half weeks. Then we see the doctor to see if his fingertip fused back on, if it doesn't then they will have to put Logan out, take the tip off for good and reshape his finger which will result in his middle finger being a bit shorter. We have been praying that his fingertip will live and heal.
Through it all, Logan has stayed positive and continues to follow Dr's orders of elevating his arm and taking his meds.

Image Logan is used to the arm cast and has learned to do everything with his left arm. His energy and wanting to play certainly haven't ceased. Mom is tired from sleeping (or not sleeping) on the couch all week making sure his arm stays elevated.

First day of school and learning how to ride a 2 wheeler!

This is news from last month but I wanted to post it anyway.

A few weeks ago, Jon took off training wheels and fixed the boys flat tires then took them next door to the church parking lot to teach them how to ride a bike. We had made Caleb a deal a couple weeks previously, that if he learned how to ride a bike before the summer was over, we would get him a new bike for his birthday. Well, it didn't take but Caleb getting on the bike, getting a few pointers from Dad before he was off and riding like a pro! I couldn't believe that he was riding a 2-wheeler just like that!

Logan, seeing his brother was anxious to try and did awesome! He kept practicing and is almost there. I know the next time we take time with him, he will up and riding on his own. We were so proud of them both.

Logan is in his 2nd year of preschool and loves it...We love it too because he's still too little for kindergarten, so Mommy gets him home another year before he heads off to the big school. He is smart and learning lots!

ImageCaleb started first grade this year! He likes it so far especially because he gets to eat lunch at school. However, the full-day thing was an adjustment. The 3rd day into his first week he crashed on our couch with cars in his hands attempting to play but was so tired.

He has been in school a month now and is getting used to full day. As for me, I am still having a hard time with my big/little boy entering a new stage in his life. I have to admit I do miss him during the day...Logan & Brook don't know quite what to do with themselves.
