Lifelong our stumbles, lifelong our regret,
Lifelong our efforts failing and renewed,
While lifelong is our witness, "God is good:"
Who bore with us till now, bears with us yet,
Who still remembers and will not forget,
Who gives us light and warmth and daily food;
And gracious promises half understood,
And glories half unveiled, whereon to set
Our heart of hearts and eyes of our desire;
Uplifting us to longing and to love,
Luring us upward from this world of mire,
Urging us to press on and mount above
Ourselves and all we have had experience of,
Mounting to Him in love's perpetual fire.

I cast my suffering away and bind it onto you—
or so I think.
But pain is a thick cord, a sticky strand,
a thread spun deep within that does not break.
The web, once woven, only joins.
Every act of cruelty or blame, every thought
that someone deserves some pain,
every permission given for one to suffer
for another, secretes another thread,
a stronger cord, and weaves a thicker web.
I cast the lines, and they wholly bind me.
Anger winds me in its sheets.
I am matted together in one mass
with all whom I have rejected or hurt.
I am covered in my own life-sucking cocoon,
unable to move, to breathe, to imagine,
doomed never to change from life into life —
until, because we are wrapped together,
I see my victim, my neighbor as myself,
and in the burning anguish of my seeing
dissolve the binding…

Hymns and Prayers to Sekhmet

Hymn for Protection

“O Sekhmet, Eye of Ra, Great of Flame,
Lady of protection who envelops her creator,
Come towards the King, Nb-twy (Lord of the Two Lands) . . .
Protect him and preserve him from all arrows,
And every evil of this year . . .

O Sekhmet, who fills the ways with blood,
Who slaughters to the limits of all she sees,
Come towards the living image, the Living Falcon,
Protect him, and preserve him from all evil,
And every arrow of this year.”

Hymn of Sekhmet

“Mine is a heart of carnelian, crimson as murder on a holy day.
Mine is a heart of corneal, the gnarled roots of a dogwood and the bursting of flowers.
I am the broken wax seal on my lover’s letters.
I am the phoenix, the fiery sun, consuming and resuming myself.

Conjunctions of the Moon: II

‘Peter said to Mary, “Sister, we know the Saviour loved you more than other women. Tell us the words of the Saviour that you remember, which you know and we do not. We have not heard them.” Mary answered, saying, “What is hidden from you I will reveal to you.” She began to speak these words, saying, “I saw the Lord in a vision and I said to him, ‘Lord, I saw you today in a vision.’ he answered and said to me, ‘Blessings on you, since you did not waver at the sight of me. Where the mind is, there is the treasure.’ I said to him, ‘Lord, how does a person see a vision, through the soul or through the spirit?’ the saviour answers, saying, ‘A person sees neither through the soul, nor the spirit. The mind, which lives between the two, sees the vision….’ ” The Gospel – Mary of Magdala.

Greetings and welcome back to Journeys! To end the year I present the second part of my dive into the more esoteric sides of the conjunctions of the Moon, looking at Jupiter, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and the Dragon.

Moon conjunct Jupiter

Now we are in the realm of souls seeking noble truths, guiding principles and universal precepts to live by, grand notions which encompass broad concerns like morality, ethics, justice, faith and philosophy. Jupiter, the prince of the sky, directs the soul (Moon) to gaze upwards and outward as well as inward for the personal answers to big questions. In this respect it is like the conjunction of the Moon with Mercury, a questing conjunction bound to seek knowledge, but the quest here is less superficial, less concerned with details and more with universal principles. This conjunction is also like Moon conjunct Venus in that it brings empathy…
