The Blizzard

16 Mar

Well, at least I was home and didn’t have to worry about going to work this morning since it’s spring break.  The storm started with thundershowers early Sunday morning.

Rain on the Morton building windows; and we accidentally penned another sparrow in there.

At least it was easy for me to walk to the Morton building to check Daisy.

the sidewalk was just wet with rain

That is a good thing since we’re now on around the clock checks.

Mid-morning, we got a break, and I used that time to add another pen in the Morton building and put Antigone in.  She was already the only goat not in the barn, and it was just easier to do it before we were in true blizzard conditions.

I also used that time to cover the rhubarb and the daffodils and tulips.  Hopefully, this will protect them enough to keep them from being completely killed.

Then I waited.  The winds did pick up again.  The dog was in and out a couple of times.

Finally, late in the afternoon, the snow and wind and cold did arrive.  It began with some sleet about 2:00.

It didn’t take long for it to pick up and reduce visibility.

I think the robins regret being here right now.

The snow and wind continued late into the night.

We were still under a blizzard warning into Monday morning because of the continued winds.

Pretty much most of the state’s roads were shut down.  It was pretty bad.

The Start of Spring Break

15 Mar

Oh, I had such great outdoor plans for spring break.

Well, Mother Nature had other plans.

Image

I’m scrambling to cover my daffodils and tulips.  I’ve never seen them in bloom because I just planted them last fall.

Image

They have blossoms!

My poor rhubarb that sprouted last month and then was frozen back is now coming up again.  And I just noticed in the last week or so that the garlic I planted last spring that just rotted when we were so wet has come up in the herb garden.

If it were just snow, it wouldn’t be bad.  But we’re looking at ridiculous cold as well.

Image

That also leaves me a bit worried about Daisy.  Hopefully, she’ll wait for a couple of days and give birth when we’re back up in the sixties.

Image

No more going outside until it warms up again

Because, why wouldn’t we have a sixty degree temperature change in this one week?

Enjoying the Nice Weather

14 Mar

We’ve had some up and down weather lately.  Shocking, I know.  But the critters were enjoying the warm weather.

I took advantage to the warmer temperatures to dig out my hose and make it easier to scrub the tubs and get the geese their pool again.

The temperatures have gone back down to more seasonable, but that isn’t too bad this time of year. But we’re all ready for real spring.
