Then today on my way from home back to work, I was driving down the road right in front of our house where they are doing construction, and I hit an unmarked four feet deep pot hole. It was more like a nice square precisely cut chunk in the road with sharp edges and flat sides. So, basically it was like driving at full speed into a curb. I knew I did some damage as soon as it happened, so I pulled over to the side of the road and checked it out. Sure enough, there was a big egg sized lump in my tire with air gushing out (in case you didn't know, lumps in your tire and air gushing out is pretty bad). I decided to try and make it to the tire shop right by our house to assess the damage. I only made it about 6 blocks when I realized that I was actually driving on my rim now. I hurried and pulled over into the only Baptist church parking lot in Utah. Ryan was nowhere to be found, unreachable on his cell phone for some unknown reason, so I called roadside assistance, and they said they would be there in an hour. In the meantime I had to call my work and tell them that I would not be picking up the pizza because I got a flat. Chad, that I work with, first laughed pretty hard, then said I will come change your tire for you...where are you? I told him I was in the Baptist church parking lot on center and...say no more...he knew right where I was (there aren't many baptist churches here). I then called and cancelled roadside assistance.
So, first off, we can't get the jack out of my trunk cause it was screwed in or something, so we used his. We get all the lug nuts off and the tire will not budge. It seemed like it was locked into place or something. In the mean time Ryan had called and found out where I was and had now arrived and joined us at the Baptist church. None of us could figure out how to get the wheel off of the car, and it said nothing in the manual about this. I ended up calling roadside assistance again and asking them how in the heck do we get this dang tire off my car. He said that this is a common problem with cars that have alloy wheels, and he had a solution...
Roadsie assistance guy: "just grab a 2x4 and hit the tire from behing, like you were swinging a baseball bat...that should do the trick."
Me: "okay sir let me just go get the 2x4 that I always carry around with me in the back of my Honda Accord. If I was the type of person who had a 2x4 with me do you really think that I would be calling you and asking you for help?"
Roadside assistance guy: "If that doesn't work I just get under the car and kick the tire with my boot".
Me: "hmm, don't particualry want to get under my car and kick something really hard with "my boot" that happens to only be a flat ballet shoe from payless, the car might fall on me, but thanks for your help anyway."
Ryan, and Chad weren't to excited about the idea of climbing under the car either and not one of us carry a 2x4 around with us (what are the odds). So , Ryan, in frustration, kicked the tire and it popped right off and rolled accross the parking lot. We seriously spent like 15 minutes trying to figure out how to get that tire off when all it took was a swift kick with a boot. So now I get to buy two more tires for my Honda...Joy to the Friggin' World!!! oh and a Merry Christmas too!
