Road Trip

Last weekend we took a little road trip down to San Antonio, making a few stops along the way. We had an extended weekend and were gone for 4 or 5 days. Our first stop was in Waco. The highlight of Waco was the Dr. Pepper Museum. For those of you who don't know, Dr. Pepper was invented in Waco. We went to the building where it was originally made and toured the museum.

Our next stop was Austin. The highlight of Austin was visiting the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Museum. Below is an exact replica of the oval office while he was President:

ImageAs some of the initial readers of our blog might remember, our second blog post was about our trip to the Reagan Presidential Library and Museum. Without comparison, the Reagan Library was tons better. The LBJ library really didn't have much in it, but it was mildly interesting anyway. It is now my goal to visit all of the Presidential museums sometime in the future. Sometime in the next year I want to visit the Nixon museum (there's two, the one in California) and the George H.W. Bush museum. Fortunately, the other Bush museum is going to be built in Dallas, so whenever that one comes, it will be an easy trip.

As we were on our trip, we made the occasional stops to let Blake stretch out his legs. One of his favorite things to do was stand on my lap and hold the steering wheel (while we were parked).

Peas and Trucks

After eating peas, we gave Blake carrots and green beans. He liked each one as we moved from one food to the next. However, when we went back to peas, this is the face we got:

ImageHe immediately started gagging and making a "I hate this" face. He liked them until he tried something good.

On another note, his grandma and grandpa bought some trucks the other day that light up and make truck noises, and he thought they were fascinating. Here he is pushing his truck:

Blake Has Some Advice

If you are ever faced with a choice between peas and carrots, Blake has some advice, choose carrots:
ImageHe liked peas and everything, but he has really liked his carrots. He can't get enough. If he is this excited about carrots, we are curious to see how well he likes fruit in a week or so.

Going Private

We hate to do it, but for certain reasons which we will explain a little later, we are making our blog private starting August 1st. So, if you would still like to view our blog, please leave us a comment with your email address in it. We will then send you an invitation to view our blog by the 1st. We won't publish any of the comments, so your email address will be safe and sound!

And since, every post has been about Blake since he was born, we can't break tradition! He tried peas for the first time this week and he loved it!

He loved it so much that he started eating the peas off his bib. Crazy kid!

6 Months Old

Image

Blake had his 6 month appointment/shots with his pediatrician this week. He dropped in his weight percentage, but is still thriving in all other areas. The doctor increased his reflux medicine because she thinks that is why he didn't gain weight the last 2 months. We hope it helps him, but we love our tall and skinny Blake no matter what!

Weight: 14 lbs. (25th percentile)
Height: 26" (75th percentile)
Head: 17" (50th percentile)

6 Month Old Blake-isms

-Blake laughs! He is super ticklish in certain spots, so we can usually get a good laugh that way. It is the best.

-He puts weight on his legs. He LOVES to stand and gets mad and stiffens up when you try to make him sit or lay on the floor.

-Blake has recently started rolling over from his stomach to his back. I honestly think it was his way of getting out of tummy time.

-He puts EVERYTHING in his mouth! Fingers, lovey, burp cloths, toys, you name it. It all goes straight to his mouth.

-He sleeps through the night. Eric and I are definitely liking this accomplishment! He usually sleeps from 9PM-6:30AM but will occasionally sleep until 7:30.

-He has just started eating rice cereal. He cannot stand the flavor of it most of the time and lets us know by giving us the bitter beer face. It is pretty funny.

-We are learning about Blake's patience level. It is pretty low. We will have to work on that one.

-Blake loves to grab things, especially faces and noses. If we have something in our hands while holding him, he immediately reaches for it.

-He has discovered his feet!

-Still loves his bath and kicks/splashes like crazy, but HATES swimming.

-He thinks it is fun to roll from his back onto his side and then back onto his back. He has discovered that he can turn around in a circle if he does it long enough. He even does this while he sleeps!

-He hates his exersaucer

Half Birthday

Blake is 6 months old today! To celebrate his being half of a year, we made him half of a cake:

Here he is, trying to decide what this flaming food is:

Here he is checking it out and deciding it is a good thing:

Image
We didn't really let him eat any, since he is only 6 months old. However, I did give him a tiny little taste of frosting (in spite of Lindsey's protests):

Image
As you can see, he isn't too sure about this new taste (actually, he had such a small amount, that I'm not sure he could taste anything).

Rolling Over

As mentioned previously, Blake has started to roll from his tummy to his back. He is not yet able to roll from his back to his tummy. He gets halfway, then gets stuck on his arm. Here is a video of him rolling over the other day.
