Yesterday, Bruce took the girls out on an adventure through the woods behind our neighborhood. He'd seen on Google Earth that there were a couple of lakes back there and wanted to check them out. Here is a rough transcript of a conversation they had on a video Bruce took of them:
Bruce: Ok, where are you guys?
Alice: We used to be at a lake.
Bruce: Yeah, that lake over there, we had to come down that trail…
Alice: It was not solid, and and that’s why we couldn’t skate on it. It was not ice, it was not solid enough like that other one.
Bruce: What happened when you tried to stand on it?
Alice: It cracked--water came out.
Bruce: We got stuck in the mud, huh? (From what Bruce told me later, the mud was pretty stinky.)
Alice: Now we’re eating candy bracelets.
Bruce: Yeah, is this a good adventure?
Alice and Myra: Silence--they're too busy eating their candy bracelets.
Bruce: Do you know a name for this lake? What would be a good name for this lake?
Myra (after a few seconds of contemplation): Stinky-hatchie
Bruce: That’s a good name. So, should we call it Stinky-hatchie Lake?
Alice: No, maybe call it Crack Lake, because it cracks.
Bruce: Ok…those are both good ideas.
Later on, off camera, Alice comes up with an even better idea.
Alice: How about we use both names! We could call it Stinky Crack Lake!!!!
BRILLIANT!
