Arrival of Gilbert Watson Parkinson

Gilbert arrived on Tuesday at about 2 a.m., and all is well.  Faith started having contractions early Monday morning and off and on throughout the day.  By 6 p.m. or so we started to realize that this was for real, and called her brother John to come watch the kids.   Everything went pretty smoothly once we got to the hospital, with the first order of business getting the epidural in and then a nap for both of us.  At 1:30 a.m. the doctor cam to break Faith's water because her contractions were still pretty far apart, but when they checked her, her waters were broken and Gilbert was crowning.  About 30 minutes later, with only 2 pushes he was out!  John and Samantha brought the kids to meet their new brother at the hospital that evening, and we were home the next day.  Here are a few pictures. If you are disappointed that you don't see any pictures of Faith in the hospital then don't blame me.  I wanted to put some in because I think she looked great, but she vetoed the idea.

Gilbert's first picture.  Actually, it is his second.  The first one has Faith in it, so you don't get to see it even though she looks amazing.

Gilbert getting weighed and examined by the nurse.  He was 8 lbs 13 oz, and 21.5 inches long.  I cut the umbilical cord a little long hoping it would help boost his stats.  Probably bought him an extra 2 ounces.

 Cute little guy.

I was coughing and blowing my nose the whole time at the hospital, and eventually developed pink eye.  Spent most of my time trying to be helpful while not coughing on the baby or touching him.

Alice, Myra, and Quincy in the hospital room eating saltines.  They were all extremely excited to see him and were very gentle.

In his car seat ready to go home.  Is that a smile, or is he busy making a going-home present?

Finally out of his hospital clothes into something stylish.  Still has that mysterious smile.  In case you are curious, yes, it was a little package.

Myra watching as he gets out of his carseat for the first time.

Quincy gets to hold him for the first time.  Not sure what to think at first, having the baby so close.

But eventually he starts to get curiuos about the little mouth and nose.

Alice was ecstatic when she got off the bus and the new baby brother was there.  We took several pictures of her and the baby and printed them out at the drug store for her to take to school the next day.

He's not completely bald, but pretty close.  His middle name is Watson, and coincidentally his great-grandpa Watson was also bald (though much later in life ).  We named him Watson, in honor of his grandma, Mary Etta Watson Parkinson, who is a wonderful and worthy example of how to live your life.

No, that is not a real giraffe eating his head.  He just likes to look serious all the time to throw everyone off.
