Christmas Parties

Image
Image
We have had an amazing and fun week. Starting Monday night we have received over 3ft of snow...YEAH! I love getting this much snow, it's so beautiful. We've also been very busy with Christmas parties. We had Santa come to Flag Ranch and got to decorate cookies with him last Saturday. That night we had our ward Christmas party and had a lot of fun. It was amazing and beautiful. The primary kids dressed as angels and sang a few songs while the young men and women acted out the nativity scene. We also had an amazing Santa-our Bishop, who better to play Santa then a man who has served our ward so unselfishly for the past 3yrs. It really was neat.
Then last night we had our Sizzler Christmas Party. It is such a relief having that one over with. We had a lot of fun but did end up digging out about 7 of our employees. I think that just added to the night.
Now we have a snow day and have spent the day playing in the snow and digging out the house and Sizzler. John has shoveled off our roof, Sizzler's roof and is now down trying to keep up on the sidewalks in hopes of making it easier for this next storm that is coming in this week. All in all it's been a lot of fun and has really helped us getting in the Christmas spirit. Love this time of year.

Where does time go?

Okay so I was told that I was way behind on my blog and that I needed to update it as soon as possible by a few people. The only time was trying to find the time. I couldn't believe how long it had been. So here is a brief recap of the last 6 months.

June- School got out and my little sister Bri came down to help out for the summer. This is the month of Aleksia and John's birthdays and our Anniversary so we decided to head to Orlando. We had an amazing time but can't seem to get away from animals and outdoors. Out of all the things we did there the Fam's two favorite things were the air boat ride and Gator Land, where we all got to sit on a live Gator. It worked out perfect having Bri there. She is such an amazing helper and keeps Leks entertained at all hours.
Leks turned 10 and has grown into an amazing, beautiful double digiter. She also got to share her very special day with her Dad since her day landed on Fathers Day. We enjoyed the day by hanging out by the pool and getting some sun. Her and John entered a contest to see who knew there Dad the best. They won by a landslide only missing one or two questions. John turned ? and enjoyed his day at Gator land. Brax started his new med. but decided to get his front teeth in (which always causes seizures) so we couldn't really track his progress on the seizures. That pretty much raps up June.

July- Talk about a crazy month, we were hardly home. We took Bri and Brax up to Utah on the 30Th of June. We had a fun couple of days with my family. We got to light off some fireworks and visit a few of the fun activities that are around Provo that time of year. Then on the 3rd we headed back home without Bubba to enjoy the Flagranch 4Th of July celebration. Leks was in the pie eating contest but didn't get very far because the pies were still a little to frozen:) I was very happy we didn't end up with a sugar rush.
On the 5Th we headed up to Lake Powell for a week with John's family for the annual Freer gathering. Our friends David and Ashley joined us and we had an amazing time. The weather was beautiful with no storms and it seemed like the kids are finally at the age where they actually enjoy one another. It's amazing comparing the photos from year to year. All the grand kids are turning in to amazing beautiful people.
After the lake we ran up to Utah to grab Brax then headed home for a few days. On the 20Th we were back on the road to Idaho with my family for our first reunion. We've always got together at my parent's house and this was the first time that we all were together outside of Utah Valley. We had a blast and really enjoyed each other. Mary and Ferrel were gracious enough to let us use the cabin in Featherville. We swam, canoed, played in the river, floated the river, fished, played basket ball and just enjoyed being together. It was a very relaxing way to end a hectic month.
On the way home we stopped over night to enjoy a one night stay on the North rim of the Grand Canyon. It is defiantly worth it. We stayed in one of the rustic cabins which meant we had a 1/2 bath and one light. It was pretty rustic and really made you think of how the pioneers felt. It is such a beautiful and peaceful place. We enjoyed an outdoor BBQ and show that was hilarious. Defiantly recomend it.

August- The end of our playtime. Kids started school on the 13Th, Aleksia is in 5Th grade and Brax is repeating 1st grade. They wanted to keep him in the younger grades as long as possible. Brax also got an EEG to see if there was improvement with his seizures. The news wasn't really as great as we wanted, but at least we know that there is one more option out there and more to come.
With the kids back in school, I finally started my training for Imogene. It's a race that is in Telluride, Co. that's 17.1 miles long and starts in Orray, Co. at 7810ft. You run over the pass that takes you up to 13,120ft in the first 10 miles then you run down the last part and end up back in Telluride. Needless to say my days were spent out hiking and running the woods for 5hrs a day. The kids settled into school and John was very supportive dropping and picking me up when he wasn't out working or enjoying the golf course. His golf game really improved and he ended up placing 2ND and 3rd in a few tournaments.

September- The big race was on the 12Th and I ended up making my goal by 1min 17 sec. We went up for 3 nights and enjoyed the beautiful town of Telluride. We had some great friends with us and had a blast. Everything went well except for when I took a wrong turn on the drive home. Let's just say I think we added 4hrs onto the drive WOOPS! Still feeling a little bad about that one...OK maybe not.
The following weekend we went back to enjoy the Lake again with some of our friends. Mary and Ferrel watched Brax for us so we truly got to relax and unwind. I think we set the record for the most time spent out on the speed boat. There was wake boarding, Surfing (which I tried for the first time) u-boarding and tubing galore. Even the Mom's went out on the tube together. Yes we did all survive but it was close. We had an amazing time like always with them and look forward to another faboules trip next year.
When we got home Leks got enrolled in Gymnastics and has loved every minute of it. Also some where in the month she started hip-hop. It is hilarious watching them try to put on an attitude for the dance. Not sure if it is good or bad but Leks is defiantly the one in there with the most attitude in her dancing. She has the sassy little look going on and the body poses for it. We just have to remind her every now and then that the attitude does not carry on outside of the studio :)

October-The first week all the Freer grand kids, except for our two were out of school and came to Flag to em joy conference with all of us. We got to do a few activities with them and went on an amazing hike to enjoy the beautiful fall leaves we have here. I love fall and the changing of the leaves are so beautiful here. It was a very enjoyable way to start a pretty stressful month.
We were one of the fortunate and did end up getting the Swine Flu. Brax had to be hospitalized over night so they could keep an eye on his stats. He did great and thankfully never had to be put on oxygen. Lek's on the other hand got it twice and missed 6 days of school. She was pretty sick but pulled through it and is back to her own self.
John got to go hunting for 10days in Idaho with his Dad, Mike and Malcolm. They had a great time and Malcolm shot an elk while Ferrel was driving John in to Sun Valley to catch a flight home.
Next thing we knew it was Halloween and our time was spent on costumes and parties.
Aleksia was a bumble bee and Bubba was a scarecrow. My friend Elaine and I decked out Brax's chair so it looked like a pile of straw. I never want to see another piece of rafie in my life.
November-Aleksia's class had their school play. They have been studying the Mid-Evil times and ended with an amazing performance. The teachers and kids work so hard for these plays and they are wonderful. The kids learn so much and have a lot of fun doing it.
Brax went to his Orthopedic Dr. and found out that he is possibly going to need a rod in his back. Despite a few set backs he has progressed amazingly. He is more alert, tracking and looking for objects, making choices through eye gaze and is showing more emotions. He lets you know when he is mad as always but has started to show happy emotions like smiling and a wierd expression. On the 15th he amazed us all and turned 8. That was a day I truly thought we would never see. We had a little party with family and friends and Leks decorated his cake. She did a wonderful job and just might take after her Grandpa Oberg.
We celebrated Thanksgiving in UT. with my family and had a great time. We hit a late night movie for the first time in who knows how long and got to meet up with John's mission buddies. There was a lot of family time and Leks really enjoyed playing with my Brother Cam's little boy Easton. He is now 18mos. and her little shadow. They were really cute together. We also got to hit the slopes for a little boarding. On Black Fri. we decided to skip shopping and went the Christmas Carol play out at a playhouse that we always went to when I was younger. It was the perfect way to head into the Christmas season and brought us up to the month of Dec.

So, sorry about the lack of posts for the past few months. Now that your all caught up, hopefully I will do a better job at keeping it that way. Hopefully!

Brax and girls on Rhino

So we started the new med. last night. So far so good. We also had a great Mother's Day. We took our nieces out on the rhino on Sat. and had a blast. We were gone all day and got really dirty. We eventually ended up at the lava caves and found a pretty cool ice wall. On Sunday we had dinner with John's Mom and Dad and our brother-in-law Brad. John and the kids gave me a beautiful table that was once my Grandmas and was literaly in pieces. They had it restored and it's beautiful. One day I might get a picture up. HA! All in all it was a great weekend.
Love ya,

Hopefully good news!

FINALLY after 7yrs they have come out with a new drug which was designed specifically for Brax's condition. It was just approved by the FDA in Jan. 09. Dr. B was at a conference and brought up Brax's case. 4 of the Drs. there had tried this med on their patients. 2 of them had a completely normal EEG which is AMAZING after being on the med. for 2wks. The other 2 had only been on it for a few days but had seen at least a 50% decrease in their seizures. We decided Brax can be one of the guinea pigs and were going to put him on it. He will be the first child in AZ. to try the drug so it will take awhile to get it approved. If this drug even stops half his seizures we feel that it would be a miracle. The Dr. said that if we could just stop the seizures he could possibly begin to develop in a lot of areas. Were trying not to get our hopes up but at the same time were hoping this is the answer to our prayers. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Love ya,

Amie

Way to go Aleksia!!!

Aleksia has been in a program called Girls On The Run for the last 5mos at school. It's a running program that teaches girls how to become better citizens and better people all around. They've been training for a 5k since the beginning and this Saturday they ran it. You couldn't run with your daughter but you could run with run of their friends if you wanted. So three of us Mom's decided to run it and paired up with each of the little girls. We also talked Elaine into joining in the fun. We had so much fun and I am so proud of all the girls. It wasn't timed but I will just brag for 1second and say that Aleksia, Morgan and Amy's group was the first ones to finish. Kelly and I came in a few minutes later due to a retying of her shoes and
Joy and Elaine just finished. YEAH US!!!

Enjoy the pictures.

Easter Day

On Easter Sunday we woke up at 6:00am to find the Easter Bunny baskets. After following the clues we finally found them and couldn't wait to see what was in them. After playing with all the fun stuff we got ready for church and enjoyed an amazing sacrament meeting. After church we had Natalie and crew over for an easter egg hunt before dinner and then at 5:30 we had Mary and Ferrel, Marcus and Melissa, Elaine and the Missionaries over for dinner.
Talk about a very special Easter. The missionaries were great and endured Won's questions with flying colors and even left him with some things to ponder. After dinner they shared a short clip that I had put on my blog before. I will find it and add it as soon as I remember how:) They left us with an amazing feeling in our hearts and the true reason for the holiday. It's definitely one for the books. I hope everyone else had an amazing time.
Love to all of you,
AmieImage

Easter

We had a great time dying easter eggs. We had Elaine, Natalie, and her boys over for some easter egg fun. We got some great eggs and a little mess-what could be better.
Image Mom and Brax dying his egg. He really liked the blue and painting it.
He wasn't to impressed with the orange color.Image Aleksia loved helping her brother and made sure he was always involvedImage Even Dad got in on the action. He took his time and did an amazing job, untill he handed it to Elaine to hold. Lets just say she was helping all the kids(fingers in multi colored dye).
Image Kyler had fun for the first five minutes and then decided throwing them was a lot funner.
Natalie loved it and Kal just liked being around everyone.

Image Elaine got stuck helping all of the kids with their eggs at some point or was the camera lady. Thanks Elaine for all of your help.

These are the eggs that Aleksia did. Grandma, the top one is your special one.Image These are Brax's eggs. He did the chicks at school and the plainn ones at home.ImageThese are the family eggs. Aleksia added the bubbles during the picture for a little dramatic flair. We had a great time and I think the eggs are pretty amazing.

Scottsdale

Scott and Jamie had their baby shower on Sat. the 4th in Phoenix and then John had a golf tournament the following Monday. So we decided to make a little trip and stayed two nights in Scottsdale. We had fun seeing Scott and Jamie and can't wait to meet the little one, just 4weeks left I believe. Sunday was a day of relaxing by the pool and catching up with friends. Elaine was down visiting her family so she came over to spend the day by the pool also. We had a very relaxing time and made it home Mon. morning in time for the kids to be 8min. late for school (pretty much are usual time). Here are a few pictures, enjoy. We sure did.

Bringhursts

The week we got home from Spring Break, we had some friends stop by who's kids were on their spring break. First we got to see the Hansen's on Friday(sorry but no pictures) from Colorado. We had a great lunch and a short visit before they had to head out to beat snow storms. There doing great and the kids are getting so big. They have a little boy who is 11(and good looking), a little girl who is 9, then one more girl who is almost 5. The kids had a blast and Heather and I got to catch up on a few things.
Saturday some of our friends, from John's mission, Trace and Zenia came to spend a few nights with there three kids who are Kellen 8, Kade 6, and Connor 6mos. (I think the ages are right but don't bet a 100% on it). We had a great time, the boys (and Aleksia) went on the Rhino on Sat. while Zenia and I ran into town for some supplies. Then on Sunday after church we hit the Grand Canyon for dinner and some amazing views. The rest of the time was playing outside and trying to beat each other on the Wii.
It was fun to see old friends and be reminded of how blessed we are to have amazing people in our lives. Thanks for the fun weekend guys.

Spring Break Journal

Wow it's been a long crazy few weeks. We had a blast during Spring Break and saw a lot of beautiful country. We hit Yosemitie National park for the first day and then stayed the night in the park at the Awahee Hotel. The hotel is very, very, old and yes I swear that dang thing was haunted. We were planning on staying two nights but hightailed it out of there at 8:30 the next morning. We hit the Yosemitie museum and then headed off to San Fransisco.
We got into San Fransisco around 6:00 Sunday night found a hotel at Fisherman's Wharf, some food and then crashed. The next day was packed full of sight seeing. First thing was a cruise around the harbor to see the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and Angel Island which Aleksia was learning about in school so that was pretty neat for her. After the cruise we hit the aquarium and then hitched a ride on the cable cars, where we finally found our way to the Old Trolly's and headed to China town. After eating lunch and walking around China Town we headed back to Fisherman's Wharf for some shopping and a rest. That night we went out to eat and ran into a street performer. He was hilarious and Aleksia was laughing so hard her stomach hurt and she had tears in her eyes.
Tuesday we were back on the road headed to Sana Barbara.
After 7hrs in the car we figured out that Sana Barbara was still a good 5hrs away and decided to stay at Pismo Beach. Here we found an amazing hotel that was like a little apt. and was an amazing deal so we decided to stay two nights. All we did was hang out at the beach, played in the pool, and hit a few surf shops, oh and about 5 loads of laundry.
Thursday we headed down to San Diego where we were meeting Mary and Ferrel (John's parents)for our final stop. We didn't have the condo until Friday, so we stayed at a brand new Hampton Inn to check it out for Mary. It was really neat but in the middle of nothing so we rented a movie, got some dinner and went to bed. Friday we headed to our favorite place, Sea World, where we loved watching Brax enjoy the water exhibits. He really loves the bright fishes and the light patterns on the water.
After Sea World we headed to the condo where we enjoyed the pool, did some more laundry, ate Double Happiness and caught up on some sleep. Mary and Ferrel got there late that night just in time for goodnight hugs and kisses for the kids.
Saturday we went to our traditional restaurant, Anthony's, and then headed over to the San Diego Museum to see the Body Works Exhibit. Body works is where they plasticize real body parts and bodies and then slice them open in all weird angels so you can see all the different parts of the body. It was very interesting and I lasted about 3/4 the way through then had to get some fresh air. John was second to fall and everyone else really enjoyed it, including Aleksia who pretended they were just plastic. She told me that next time we go I should try it. I reassured her that there would not really be a next time for me.
On Sunday we headed over to Coronado Island to walk around the beach and the Old Coronado Hotel. We ate lunch at the restaurant in the hotel and enjoyed a lovely view of the beach. The weather was very uncooperative however, so we stayed inside the hotel and learned all about the ghost that haunts it. That night Mike and Sheri came, okay it was officially Monday since it was 3am when they finally got there. We were planning on leaving Monday to get the kids back to school but the weather was so amazing we just had to stay. So we headed up to Old Town to enjoy the shops and dinner. We enjoyed a hectic dinner of wonderful Mexican food but after 3 spilled drinks, by the adults, we decided to head back to the condo hit the pool.
On Tuesday we loaded back up and headed home. It was great to finally be home and not have to lug suitcases around anymore.
Thanks to John, who had to do everything because I still couldn't lift anything we had an amazing time and really enjoyed one an others company. It's really amazing how well you think you know your kids but spend hours upon hours in the car and you REALLY get to know everything about them and everyone they know.
