Today Is My Birthday

Today (3.11.) is my birthday. I turned 74. I’m posting a few poems in the Ingrian dialect here because I told my Facebook well-wishers that I have a language blog. It focuses mainly on the Finno-Ugric languages of the Baltic Sea. But before the poems, an updated self-portrait, as I’ve aged over the years.

Today Is My Birthday

Today, 11.03.26, is my birthday. I would be happy if you celebrated it with me by listening while I’m singing my song “Läpi näiden vuosien (Experienced in TheseYears)” at the concert. It is the first song I ever have sung on the record, and if you like it, sent the link to your friend. Below the link and words

Experienced in these years

Listen to: http://youtu.be/aZrRBb7rAlg14

Too much, I have experienced in these years,
Too many are those who are debt tears for me.
I remember that gray platform,
Where the was carrying a friend.

Refrain:

That time didn’t bloom
My dear apple trees,
neither anyone whispered in my ear:
Honey, do not forget me.

Never have I been afraid
Yet on this trip until tomorrow
Little boy has avoided the dangers hand in hand
With the woman who has mild face/.
Little boy has avoided the dangers
side by side the kind woman reflection.

The refrain

I know about the mothers weeping eyelids
That does not explain the words out loud,
They just give their love for guidance
Their prayers for the boys to protection

Now bloom my dear
Sacred apple trees.
They have this heavenly scent,
The fragrance that never go away.

Flamethrower will represent Finland in the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Liekinheitin” (Finnish: [ˈlie̯kinˌhei̯t̪in]; transl. ”Flamethrower”) is a song by Finnish violinist Linda Lampenius and Finnish singer-songwriter Pete Parkkonen. The song was composed by Lampenius and Parkkonen, together with Antti Riihimäki [fi], Lauri Halavaara, and Vilma Alina Lähteenmäki [fi], and was released on 16 January 2026 through Universal Music Oy and PME Records [fi]. It will represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 after winning the Finnish national final Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2026.

Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (Finnish: [ˈuːden ˈmusiːkin ˈkilpɑi̯lu]; abbreviated UMK; Swedish: Tävlingen för ny musik; English: Contest for New Music)[1] is an annual music contest organised by the Finnish public broadcaster Yle. It made its debut in 2012 as the Finnish selection format for the Eurovision Song Contest, replacing the previous Finnish Eurovision selection Suomen euroviisukarsinta which had been held since 1961, read the rest of the Wikipedia article here

Will the Finnish Language be the Achilles heel for Liekinheitin

The song is performed in Finnish. This is its Achilles heel, as songs sung in English or another widely spoken language have been more successful than songs already performed in Finnish. In 2023, Finland’s representative Cha Cha Cha (Käärijä song) was a positive exception. It came in second place and was the audience’s absolute favorite. The expert jury did not appreciate it, which is why the Swedish song “Tattoo,” sung in English, won.

Laila Kinnunen: Pieni sydän (Little heart)

Laura “Laila” Annikki Kinnunen (8 November 1939 – 26 October 2000) was a Finnish singer. She was one of the most popular Finnish singers of the 1950s and 1960s, and represented Finland at the 1961 Eurovision Song Contest, the first time Finland participated in the contest. Pieni sydän (Little Heart) is still one of the most listened to Finnish hits, which Laila Kinnunen interprets brilliantly. Many other singers have also sung the song. Composer Valto Tynnilä and lyricist Tatu Pekkarinen.

This song tells about us. We are melancholy people because of nature and history. Still, we don’t give up.

The loss of Karelia is one of the greatest tragedies in our recent history. My mother and grandparents had to leave their homes and travel in a wagon train like the people in the accompanying song. I have to take my hat off to them because they never harbored hatred or revenge, but continued their lives unyieldingly.

Evakon laulu – Lyrics – Finnish / English translation

”Evakon Laulu” was composed and written by Veikko Lavi.

Evacuation of Finnish Karelia

From Wikipedia

As a result of the 1940 Moscow Peace Treaty that concluded the Winter War, Finland ceded a portion of Finnish Karelia along with other territories to the Soviet Union. As a result, about 410,000 people,[1] or 12% of Finland’s population, were relocated to the remaining parts of Finland.[2]

The treaty did not require Finland to empty the ceded territory, but few were willing to stay, and almost the whole population chose to relocate, taking their belongings with them.[citation needed] Only the buildings and machinery were to be left behind intact as per the Peace Treaty, which for the most part also took place.[citation needed]

During the Continuation War, some 260,000 of the displaced population returned home.[3] In June 1944, Finnish troops partially withdrew from the ceded areas again as a result of the Soviet Fourth strategic offensive. Simultaneously, the population was again evacuated.

Latino sine Flexione Lexico, Now It Is Your Turn to Translate

I started collecting a Latino Sine vocabulary for myself, although I hardly have time to accumulate much because of my age. The reason I didn’t start earlier is that I was trying to find a solution to understanding Romance languages using artificial ones, such as Esperanto, Ido, and Interlingua. Ido is my favorite, but paper textbooks are few in that regard. I already have a pile of Latin books that’s wrong. Due to my limited possibilities, e.g., age, I will focus on English and Finnish from now on, and when I have too much time, I will glance at Latin and a little Ido.

I am trying to give up translating my poems or anyone else’s poems into Latin or Ido. I believe I will gain more by operating in areas where I already have some knowledge. Latin is useful for understanding English, but that is where its function should end for me.

Now It Is Your Turn

Now it’s your turn to say “Thine (your, singular) eyes are so beautiful” in Latino Sine Flexione.

Sine Latino words don’t take the genre or number of subjects.
The plural ending is -s, which only comes at the end of a noun.

Oculi tui tam pulchri sunt.
Your eyes are so beautiful.

Tuo——-es——-

The correct translation is:
Tuo oculos es tam pulchro.

The Ido Language is the Bridge to Learn Romance Languages.

I am studying Ido because it helps me understand Romance languages better. In addition, its grammar contains no exceptions, and the pronunciation of words follows the letters’ pronunciation almost 100%.

I use Wiktionary, Wikipedio, and the Stars21 translator for studying. The translator makes mistakes mainly with nouns, so they always have to be checked in Wiktionary or a dictionary.

Below are a few examples that I have taken from Wikipedio or Wiktionary. You can easily see the similarity of Romance languages and the influence of English on them. I personally do not like the fact that English is included in Ido. However, Ido is the best option for understanding Romance languages. ’Latino sine Flexione’ would be the best possible candidate, but the learning material for it is nonexistent, and the instructions that Peano has given are very few and contradictory. I have been thinking for a while about making my own rules for Flexione, especially for verbs. However, the work is too much for me.

Ido Sounds Like the Mediterranean Sea

The next poem I wrote 14.11.25 shows the feeling I caught by using Ido. It sounds much better than the English version of the poem. The Anglo version has no strong Mediterranean winds on its shoulders. Do you agree with me?

I sent this picture to the Ingrian magazine. The magazine has promised an article about me and my poems written in the Ingrian language in the December issue. However, I am so used to things not always going as planned. Often, the news media think that the most important news is passed over the artists. However, let’s hope that the story will be in the magazine.
