I have a one-eyed cat

I'm so sad about this, still a bit teary, in fact (Mary, I know you will empathize with me on this). I got my cat, Daisy, when I was in 9th grade, I think...maybe 8th grade. I weasled my dad into it, despite the fact we already had a dog and my mom didn't want a cat. But my mom loves her just as much as I do now. Daisy has been a part of the family for so long. She's outlived two other pets. In the last year, she developed this weird fungus patch on her head, right above her eye. The vet did some probing, and found beyond that, a completely unrelated problem. A tumor. She had surgery about a month ago to take it out. My parents didn't tell me this until after it was over. They were afraid of how I would react. The surgery seemed to go fine, but then when I went out for a visit to Utah, the tumor had come back. It was so sad....it lifted her eyelid up away from her eye. Well, this last week, Daisy went in for surgery again. And yesterday, I found out (another little something I don't know if my parents were going to tell me) that they decided to take out her eye, to make sure they got it all. It was lucky they did, because there was a branch of the tumor behind her eye, so it would have come back if they hadn't. But it just broke my heart to hear. They sewed it shut...so she just has fur instead of a beautiful green eye. My dad says she is doing great, recovering just fine. And he also said "Better a one-eyed cat than no cat at all." I guess he's right.

Why David Cook won...

BEFORE

AFTER

A big round of applause for David's stylists!!!!!!! Congratulations, you stylists, you!

No, I don't really think that is the reason David Cook won. But his stylists certainly did a great job, didn't they?

Image

So wow. A lot to say. I was surprised, I honestly was. And by 12 million votes!!!!! That was a BIG win. I think they both deserved to win, so this is fine. If David Archuleta had won, that would be fine too. (I wonder how my sister-in-law is doing...she must be heartbroken...) I'm really looking forward to David Cook's album. Should be good! And I imagine David Archuleta will be making one too, so I'll look forward to his also.

Image
LOVED the songs the Davids sang with the guest stars. Didn't love most of the other guest stars. Bryan Adams was probably the best, but holy cow. He is OLD!!!!! Weird.

Image

Thought it was very classy and gracious of Simon to apologize. Reminded me why I like Simon. Paula, I don't really like. Randy...I'm Switzerland on that one. Neutral.

Image

And yes, it was still endearing to see David Cook cry.....

So...what do you think?

Image
I think that David Archuleta out performed David Cook last night. I kinda like David Cook more, but I honestly think David Archuleta deserves to win it. Though, I still definitely think the title is a formality. And it was kinda endearing when David Cook got all teary. Not all that endearing when David Archuleta does, though. David Cook looks sensitive. David Archuleta looks like a little boy. Which he is. And that's not a bad thing. But I digress. I didn't bother voting, since I don't really care who wins...and I'm not willing to vote hundreds of times like many crazed female fans out there, so my measly one or two votes won't make a difference. I feel delightfully removed from the results. :) I'm excited to see tonight though. Aside from who I think deserves to win, I honestly think that David Archuleta WILL win. The judges influence America...Landon and I came up with a great idea. At the finale, the judges should keep their mouths shut completely. That way we would get a true picture of who America thinks is the best.
Anyway, so fellow American Idol addicts, what do you think?

Moving on, I got tagged by Mandy....so here goes....
Image
This is my very large Nine West bag that my mother-in-law Sally bought for me because I was sick of my diaper bag. I love it. Fortunately, I cleaned it out right before I read Mandy's tag. Otherwise there would have been grocery lists, receipts and Sunday's sacrament meeting program in there as well. Contents as follows: Travel size wipes for Dallin, diapers for Dallin, toy for Dallin, sunglasses for Dallin, keys, my phone, toy for Dallin, spoons for Dallin, jar of puffed rice snacks for Dallin, my Sansa mp3 player (sorry, folks, we're not Apple fans in this house, no iPods here), binkie case for Dallin, toy for Dallin, coupon for Gerber rice cereal for Dallin, my sunglasses in their grey case, board book for Dallin, binkie leash for Dallin, little pot of Vaseline (my form of lip gloss), my wallet, and an Easter egg. For Dallin (he thinks it's a fun toy). Anyone notice a theme to that list?
Trust me, pre-Dallin, my purse was a lot more interesting.....

There he is, Mr. American Idol............

Image
Image

I am perfectly willing, unabashedly willing, in fact, to admit that I am addicted to American Idol. Haven't missed a single episode this season. And tonight is the night. The final performances. So what do I think of it all? I'm so glad you asked.

I think Carly Smithson got sent home before she should have.

I think Jason Castro stayed WAY longer than he deserved...and lovelorn ladies who voted for him, he's not even that cute! And his hair has GOT to have some serious bacteria growing in it...

I really loved Brooke, she was just so cute and candid...and modest....but I don't think she deserved to stay on over Carly. I do, however, think that she deserved to stay over Jason!

Syesha is really good, and I kinda liked her...but I kinda didn't. That baby cry imitation weirded me out a bit...

David Cook, I really like.

David Archuleta...I honestly really like him too. Even though most people wouldn't know that...and I'm pretty hard on him. Somehow, I just can't squelch that contrary/stubborn/adolescent side of myself that wants to dislike him just because my parents and my 16 year old sister-in-law love him. How embarassing to admit I'm so juvenile still! :)

Anyway, really, at this point I really don't care. The title is a formality. Both the Davids will have a chance at a career...and I might buy David Archuleta's album too. But David, just don't use the word "Boo" again. Ever.

Not in the mood

Just got home from our Utah trip last night, LOTS to catch up on, and I just don't feel like blogging at the moment. However, I'm happily reading all of your blogs, so feel free to post something new! :P

Life is good....

Landon finished his last final on Tuesday. He has officially finished one year of law school! One down, two to go!!!!! It really is exciting/crazy to think he is no longer a first year law student (or someone who goes to "lawyer school" as the old farmer we met in Jiffy Lube in Idaho called it).
I picked Landon up from school ten minutes after he turned that final in, and we began the long 800 mile trek home. We got to spend the night in Twin Falls, Idaho, at my grandma's house. Then we got our oil changed and a bunch of other services done at one of my dad's stores, and my grandma took us out to lunch at my favorite restaurant in Twin, the Garden cafe. My grandma and I are really close, so it was great to be able to spend some time there. We'll be stopping on our way back to Oregon as well.
We got into Centerville yesterday. So good to be home. And today, we've already hit Cafe Rio, Robert's Crafts and Seagull Book & Tape! The Distribution Center is next, and we'll hit Deseret Book tomorrow. Ah, Utah! :)

ABC's

Camilla tagged me on this, so here goes:

A-Attatched or single: Attatched.
B-Best friends : Landon, my family...I've had so many great friends at different stages of my life, it's hard to name names....so here's to the old roommates (Mandy, you count as an old roommate), Romania girls, and high school friends!
C-Cake: Definitely cake (but strawberry rhubarb pie and key lime pie are good too...) I'll make a 9 X 13 pan, frost it....and eat the whole thing. By myself. And then get sick to my stomach. Not my brightest idea....
D-Day of choice: FRIDAY, FRIIIIDAY, Friday is my favorite DAAAAY!! (Anybody else who went to middle school with me remember the asst. principal Mr. Leavitt singing that over the PA system on our break during SAT's?)
E-Essential item: Tough call......but sunscreen and moisturizer (couldn't pick one). Let me just say I am going to have the most supple, smooth and YOUNG looking skin EVER when I am old...
F-Favorite color(s): Red
G-Gummy bears or worms: worms...as long as they are sour!
H-Hometown: Sandy, Utah
I-Indulgences: sitting in the bathtub with bubbles up to my chin, reading a book and sipping a Coke
J-January or July: July, especially here in Oregon. I don't have nearly as many depression issues when it's sunny :)
K-Kids: Just one kid at present, the Dal, but definitely planning on more. Just not any time soon.....
L-Life is incomplete without: the spirit (I have to agree with Camilla on that one...)
M-Marriage date: August 3rd 2005
N-Number of siblings: One sister, one brother
O-Oranges or apples: Apples...although I don't really like either...
P-Phobias or fears: when I was little, I was afraid of murderers under the bed (yes, you read that correctly, not monsters, MURDERERS), but now I think it is probably me or Landon dying too young
Q-Quote: I'm not terribly witty, so no quotes from the lips of Heather, but here's a serious quote I really like:
"If I find in myself a desire which no experience of this world can satisfy, the most probably explanation is that I was made for another world." C.S. Lewis
R-Ring size: 5?
S-Season: AUTUMN...football, falling leaves, perfect jacket weather (I have a ton of cute jackets, you see)
T-Tag 4 friends: Whoever hasn't done this tag yet!
U-Unknown fact about me: I have an issue with feet. Don't touch mine, and don't let/make your feet touch me!
V-Very favorite stores: Robert's Crafts, Ann Taylor Loft, Gap, Down East Basics, IKEA
W-Worst Habit: I pick. Everything. Scabs, ragged fingernails, zits, cuticles, slight bumps anywhere on my skin, etc.
X-X-ray or ultrasound: Ultrasounds. Like Camilla, I used to get them on my knees for physical therapy. They DO feel nice. Never had an X-ray, though, so can't really comment.
Y-Your favorite foods: My roommate Lisa's salsa, Ben and Jerry's Creme Brulee ice cream, jerky, cake, Cafe Rio, Panda Express.
Z-Zodiac: Pisces

So again, I tag anyone who hasn't done this one!

Why did my parents let me do that?!

So for the last few months, I've been digitizing my parents' old negatives. I have this nifty little machine that scans the negatives and turns them into digital images. It's been really fun to see all the pictures from the last 20+ years. When you first put the negative into the scanner, on the screen it looks just like a negative...orange. It's not until you scan and transfer the image to a file that it is full color. So you can't really tell what/who it is. I came across this picture in the negatives and immediately thought "PLEASE don't let that be me....."

It was.
