Two notable happenings from yesterday that I didn't get pictures of were Sarah's CCC concert that was lovely! It was one of my favorite concerts yet!
Also, James attended the Eagle Court of Honor for one of his scouts that has since moved out of the ward. He was surprised by being awarded the mentor pin for this scout. He felt truly honored to accept it.
Matthew's birthday was yesterday! We celebrated the best we could with a busy schedule. The best was James taking he and Joanna and Michael to a bounce house in the evening while Sarah and I were at a CCC concert and Katherine was at a rehearsal. We'll celebrate with a friend party next Friday.
Katherine had to miss her 7 piano lessons this week due to tech rehearsals for the High School's musical, Shrek. She held a group piano lesson on Saturday morning to make up for it. They spent a lot of time on note recognition, rhythms, and meanings of music terms. Only four of her students made it, but they learned a lot, and it was great!
We had the Blue and Gold Banquet, Luau style. In one of our meetings leading up to the event we made invitations, palm trees for the tables, and tiki totem poles for other decorations. We also got to make a themed cake and have Hawaiian Haystacks for dinner. It was a fun evening where Matthew earned his 4th arrow point.
After months of reading, practicing, and preparing, Matthew and Sarah had Battle of the Books on February 20th. In the end -- after a tie breaker ending -- Matthew and Sarah's team each won for their grades! It was very exciting! Now they get to keep studying the books until they move on to the District competition in April.
I was able to host quilt at my house again. It has been here every month except last month when we moved it due to sickness at our house. I selected two different blocks for the first time this month so they can choose if they want to paper piece again or try the disappearing four patch instead. I'm up to 9 blocks!
This is February's Block Option 1 -- mostly paper pieced
Here is block option 2: A disappearing four patch
This was January's Block
Michael's Musical Theater class performed the musical "Aladdin" February 12-14th. Michael was Raoul and did an excellent job as the captain of the guards. We decided to give him a "bouquet" of candy bars with jerky stems instead of flowers. We figured he'd appreciate it more.
I got to help with Joanna's Valentine's party. My main job was to man the camera for the photo booth. Unfortunately that means all the best pictures are on the teacher's camera. She looked lovely that day.
Sarah has been busy with piano. She got to play in a Sonatina Festival where she performed a sonatina accompanied by a string quartet. She also played in a Piano Festival/Competition where she received a "Superior" rating for the 3rd year in a row!
Joanna wanted to sew something for her dolls. So we cut up an old pair of pink jeans, blue jeans, and a jumper and sewed them into a picnic quilt for her dolls. She had a fun time having picnics with raisins, baby goldfish, and other snacks for her dolls. She also loved serving water with her little pitcher and cups.
Matthew earned his wolf badge in January. He is a great cub scout. It's been fun to be his leader for his last couple of months.
