Wood Art

Wood Art

Matt turned 29 last week, and for his birthday

I wanted to make a piece of art with his favorite quote.

Here is what I came up with. (Inspired by my friend Kits quoted paintings..)

My Dad owns a welding shop, 

so my original idea was for the words to be cut with the plasma burner out of a large piece of metal.

That idea didn't work though... the plasma burner couldn't handle all the text :(

So onto idea number 2...

A wood cut sign.

It turned out sooo much better then I ever thought!!!

How we did it:

We took a large piece of wood, and stained it a darker color.

Then had a rubber sticker made in the form of all the words, and placed it onto the stained wood.

Next we sand blasted the whole thing. 

The sand pellets repel off of the rubber, leaving the quoted words raised 

and the rest of the wood eaten away.

I love how you can see all the grooves and rings in the wood!!!

The quote is from Matt's favorite book series Dune.

I have been experimenting with free hand machine embroidery over the last few weeks.

It is sooo cool, and sooo fun!

After creating this face, I knew she was meant to be a doll...

 after creating her, I knew she was meant to have a husband...

A Few Blankets

A Few Blankets

There is just something about winter that makes me want to crochet non stop...

Couple that with Pintrest, and you get some pretty cool blankets...

I found these 2 and fell in love.

I've made a few different versions of these blankets for friends and baby showers.

I plan on making that floral one in different colors too...

But since spring is just around the corner, 

and I haven't wanted to look at a crochet hook for a few weeks, 

that will probably wait til next year.. :)

I made this mobile for a friend, and LOVE LOVE how it turned out!
