videos

Avery loves this little duck we have, she thinks it is so funny.

Avery still loves to dance to music.  Kade caught this video of her dancing to me playing the piano.

A friend let us borrow their bouncer, and Avery loves it.  This is kind of a crazy shaky video because of all the bouncing.  But she is giggling so much, it's too cute.

This is a funny video of Avery's first time eating pears.  She had a hard time with sweet stuff at first.  She's gotten more used to it now though.

since christmas

We had a wonderful time in West Virginia for Christmas.  It was great to see everyone, and Avery got to meet my family.

Including her chunky adorable little cousin.

Image

She got to see Mom again,

Image

and Dad again!

Image

We did the classic nativity with all the grandkids.  It was pretty crazy, as you can imagine.

Image

We came home to a foot of snow.

Image

I took Avery out in her oompa loompa suit so she could experience the snow.  She had no clue what was going on and just sat there looking cute.

Image

One morning I decided I would try to sit Avery up on her own.  And she stayed up! I snapped a few pictures before she fell over.

Image

We went swimming together for the first time at the indoor pool.  She was terrified at first of the loud echoey pool.  But once I got her in the water she LOVED it.

Image

We have gone to the farm a few times with her.  Kade has worked on our hill so we can start building a house.  We like to come and check up on him.

Image

In order to live on the hill we have to drive on a gravel road for 5 miles.  This was pushing me to sell our car, because it wouldn't work too well driving to the farm.  I sold it and we bought another car the day before we were leaving for San Francisco.

We went to San Francisco to see Mom and Dad.  We had so much fun walking around with Mom and seeing all the sights.

Image

Then we hung out with both of them when Dad was finished with work stuff.  Mom was an amazing tour guide.  We walked up Lombard Street.

Image

We went to Pier 39 and ate amazing seafood and saw the seals.

Image

We walked to Coit Tower and China Town.

Image

We also got to ride the Cable Cars a few times and see the Cable Car Museum.
After my parents left on Saturday, we went to Lands End, over the Golden Gate and to Muir Woods.

Avery did a lot better than I thought she would.  She is usually not one of those babies that can fall asleep anywhere.   I was really worried about her naps in San Francisco.  She fell asleep twice in the backpack carrier on Kade while we were walking around.  Not too bad.  It got pretty cold in the evening, so Kade zipped her up in his jacket.

Image

Image

Avery is 11 months old now.  She has gotten 4 teeth (two top and two bottom).  Had her first cold -- Though now I'm wondering if it was the flu because she has had another cold since and it was WAY more mellow.
She figured out how to army crawl.  Then after a month of that decided it was much easier to crawl on her hands and knees.  And now she gets into everything.  Not long after crawling she learned how to stand up and walk along all the furniture.  At first it was a little scary because she would fall a lot.  Now she has gotten a lot better.
Image

As far as how much she weighs and stuff, I have no clue.  How exactly do you weigh a baby at home?  I could measure how long she is, but I'm too lazy.  She is a lot longer and heavier than my last post with stats.   I do know she has been following the sizes on her clothes pretty good.  Like, right now she fits in some 9 months clothes still, but also fits in 12 months.
After recovering from Christmas, Avery decided she would sleep longer than a half hour for her naps during the day.  It was wonderful, until she started waking up at night again.  For a month, it was either sleeping through the night and 3 half hour naps, or waking in the night and 2 two hour naps and a half hour nap during the day.  I couldn't get both.  It took a while, but she finally started sleeping through the night and taking 2 good naps.  It was marvelous.

Avery still loves the dog!
Image

I'm still amazed at fast Avery is growing and how fast time is going by.  She will be a year old in a month.. crazy!  I didn't think it was possible, but she gets cuter everyday.  We love her so much.

As for us, Kade has started his first crop of hay, so he has gotten super busy and is on a weird schedule on the farm.  I'm still working from home for the Farm and teaching piano lessons.  Its been working pretty good.

and a little video

Here is a video of Avery before bed laughing with us.  She likes to laugh at peek-a-boo games and herself in the mirror.

4 months

Image

Our sweet little girl is four months old! holy cow!  She is getting so big and she is still as sweet as ever.  I started piano lessons again and she just chilled listening to the music the whole time.  She is very mellow and rarely cries.  She got her four month shots on Monday.  This time it went much smoother than her 2 month appointment.  We were able to get in faster, before she got too tired, so she wasn't upset the whole time.  Only after they gave her four shots in her chubby little legs.  Her whole head turned red!  But once I picked her up she calmed down and didn't hear a peep the rest of the day.  When we got home she laid on the floor playing with a toy and acted like nothing had happened.  She's so tough. :)

Image

I got her on a pretty good sleeping schedule most of the time.  She still struggles with only taking half hour naps, but she sleeps amazing at night, so I'm not complaining.  Since my last post, she hasn't woken in the night, sleeping at least 10 hours.

She still hates church!  Luckily I still don't have an official calling.  Though subbing for the organ and for the piano in primary the staying after for choir practice was tough.  Kade didn't have to teach in young men's so he had her the whole time.

She loves to blow bubbles and droll everywhere..

Can sit in a bumbo! But not without it...
Image

She is always smiling and giggling.. I went visiting teaching to a friend's house that had a little dog.  When that dog came out and was jumping and running everywhere, Avery was laughing like crazy!  It was hilarious.  I'd never heard her laugh so much!  She loved it when that little dog would come close and try to lick her.  It was the cutest thing ever!

She has officially rolled over, and does it all the time now.  She rolls from her back to her belly, but hasn't figured the other way out yet.  Most of the time she rolls to her side to sleep.  She's usually rolled up into a little ball in her crib, super cute!  The first time she rolled over was in her crib.  I put her in her crib on her back for her nap.  When I went in to get her she looked like this...

Image

The she looked up at me...

Image

and gave me a big smile!

Image

Sleeps in her crib all the time now!  We finally got her sleeping in her crib a couple weeks ago after she stopped waking up after a half hour at night.  And sleeping in her crib didn't change how long she sleeps at night.

At first, people were saying she looked like Kade or a Crawford baby, now I'm hearing she looks like me.  So I found some pictures of me and Kade, I think she is a mix.

Either way, she's a cutie and we love her to pieces!!

three months

Image

Image
big smile for daddy when he got her in the morning
Three months already?!  Each month goes by faster than the last, it's crazy!  We are doing great. She is still an angel.  I'm pretty sure she knows when I'm going to write about her, because she is always being great right around her month mark.  In between, however, she makes me go a little crazy wondering how I ruined my great sleeper who rarely cried.  At the beginning of the month we were battling midnight to one in the morning bedtimes.  Just last week she started waking up 2-3 times a night.  We figured out it was because she was getting cold.  A space heater cured those night awakenings   And after starting this post, she woke up and decided that she didn't like to sleep anymore!  Not at night or during the day, in her crib, in my arms, nowhere!  Luckily it only lasted a few days.  She must have been going through a "phase."  Or so I read.  Kade makes fun of me because when Avery is having a bad day, he comes home to find me feeding her and googling baby sleep stuff.
For the past few days, she's been falling asleep around 9, and sleeping in until 8.  She also falls asleep on her own for her naps.  Very nice. Hopefully it lasts.  She still hates church though, won't sleep, and is too tired to eat properly.  But luckily, once we get home, she passes out, so we can too! :)

*Is finally sleeping in her crib.  At least for naps, at night we put her in her bouncer because she sleeps longer.  On good days, I can get her almost asleep and lay her in her crib for her naps and she will sleep for a couple hours.  On other days I resort to her swing to get her to sleep.
*still hasn't really rolled all the way over.. she loves to pull her legs up and roll from side to side though.  I call her my little rolly-polly.  It's super cute.   She has full control of her head, which is impressive considering how big it is compared to the rest of her body!
Image

*she has pretty much grown out of 0-3 month clothes and is still wearing size 1 diapers.
*we finally got her to take a pacifier! it only took 3 different kinds to find the right one.  She still isn't very thrilled about the pacifier, but it can calm her down and help her fall asleep if we can keep it in her mouth. She does love her thumb though, when she can find it.
Image
thumb sucker

*still has no hair :)
* smiles all the time, and if she is in a good mood (or loopy from lack of sleep) she will laugh out loud.

Image

I've been trying to get her laugh on video, but it's so hard unless I carry a camera everywhere.  Kade was able to get this one night on his iphone.  It's kinda dark.

*loves to talk and sing
*I am considering starting piano lessons again, because she is pretty patient and doesn't cry much.
*can't swaddle her anymore, she gets out of it in less than a minute because she freaks out too much.
*has experienced her first real rain and snow fall, too bad she's too little still to enjoy it!

not sure on her stats.. can't get my scale to be consistent...

two months

Image
big yawn after a long day at church
Our little girl is already two months old!  I can't believe it.  She is growing so fast.  It seems like every time I go to get her after waking up from a nap she has grown even more!  A family from the other ward in Winnemucca had a little girl two weeks ago, and we got to meet her.  I couldn't believe how little she was.  Was Avery really that small only 6 weeks ago??  I also couldn't help but notice how bald our baby is!  Good thing she has these adorable ginormous cheeks to make up for her very bald head.
Image
I had set her on the couch and came back to find her slouched down like this.  I couldn't help but bust up laughing.  She just looked too cute with her squished up cheeks and big belly.

What sweet cheeks has been up to at 2 months:

*I must admit, I have a very good baby.  The night of 8 weeks she slept 11 hours straight from 9 PM to 8 AM, and so did I!  It was pretty awesome.  She has been pretty good at sleeping through the night since about 3 weeks.  Most nights she sleeps at least 7 hours at a time, sometimes longer.  Her bedtime is pretty inconsistent, depending on how well she napped during the day.

*Her naps are also very inconsistent.  I'm still trying to figure out how to start up piano lessons with her schedule so wacky (if you can call it a schedule).  Though after sleeping through the night, she almost always feeds then takes a 3-4 hour nap in the morning.  This gives me time to run, shower, and eat breakfast.  But after that nap, who knows when she will sleep again.  She does what she wants.

*She still doesn't cry too much. Though, like all babies she was having major fussy times in the evenings right around 6 weeks.  But they have gotten a lot better.  A couple evenings, I was worried she was going to pass out because she would stop breathing because she was crying so hard.  I wonder if she got that from me.. When I was little I would pass out from crying so hard and not being able to breath.

*She can pretty much hold her head up on her own.  Most days she doesn't like tummy time, but she can completely lift her head up and look around.

*Right at 6 weeks, I for sure got a smile out of her.  Kade didn't get to see her smile until about 7 1/2 weeks.  Now she smiles all the time.  We love that she can now focus on our face and smile.
Image
I know it's blurry, but I caught her smiling!

*She's almost grown out of newborn size and has been wearing size 1 diapers for a couple weeks.

*She has officially gone to all 3 hours of church, and so have I!  It only took 8 weeks.  She only slept for about 20 minutes in sacrament meeting and fell asleep for 5 minutes as Relief Society was ending.  She was pretty good, only crying a little in Relief Society because she was tired.
Image
looking so pretty for church
*She has traveled 5 hours in a car to Utah.  We went to her cousin's baby blessing.  She was very good on the trip.  She slept through the night, though it was a little harder for us with her in the same room.  She is really noisy when she is sleeping.  Every couple hours she would wake us up with a cry.  I'd get up to get her only to find her completely asleep.  She also got to meet her uncle Aaron and aunt Ashley.  They were awesome and came to Kade's sister's house in Lehi Saturday night to see us.  And how did I not manage to get a picture??

Image
I did get a picture of Avery in her cute dress before church

*Still won't take a pacifier, though occasionally likes to suck on my finger.  I caught her one day sucking on her thumb.  Didn't last long, but it was cute.

*Loves hanging out with her daddy.

Image

*Seems to constantly have her tongue out.  So cute.

*Was very tired at her 2 month appointment, so she cried the whole time.  When the doctor picked her up, she stopped and gave him a big smile.  It was cute.  Screamed her head off when she got her shots,  but then slept most of the day after her appointment.  She's pretty tough.

Stats:
Weight: 10 lbs, 7 oz
Height: 22.25 in.

Here are some pictures her Aunt Jennie helped me take.

1 month

Image
yummy!
I can't believe Avery is already a month old!  Time sure flies with a new baby.  Days and weeks seem to all blend together.  I'm still in awe that this adorable little girl is all ours!  She is such a sweetheart.  We love her so much!

At one month she is getting much better at holding up her head.  She can turn her head completely during tummy time and she successfully rolled over onto her side all by herself.  She also is better at focusing on our faces rather than looking past our heads.
She's been smiling at us since the beginning, though I'm told its because of gas.  But I'm convinced I got a real smile yesterday.   :)
She still loves to scratch her face, so we are still putting socks on her hands.
She got her first diaper rash yesterday.  Poor girl.  We've been loading her bum up with Desitin and it seems to be helping.
She is sleeping really good.  At about 3 weeks she started sleeping 6-7 hours straight some nights.  And now she consistently sleeps 6-7 hours at night.  Though it is not at a consistent time each night.  Sometimes I go to bed with her at 7 or 8.  But I'm very grateful she is sleeping so well.  I was very paranoid about being kept up all the time before she was born.  She's awake more during the day and likes to feed more often, too.  She is kind of on a 3 hour feeding schedule now, but sometimes its sooner, sometimes later.  It usually depends on how well she naps and if she is trying to get out a poop or has gas.
During her first week, she barely made a peep.  She is definitely getting fussier, but she is still a really mellow baby.  She has a short fussy period right before her long night sleep.  She will cry pretty good for a little bit and then fall asleep for the night.  Even though it makes me sad when she cries, she looks so cute when she is fussy.
Other than going to the doctor, she hasn't been out much.  I'm still scared to take her out.  Partly because of getting her sick, partly because I don't know where we would go or do and how she would handle it.  She has been to church once for her blessing, been on a few walks around the neighborhood, and over to her grandparents house a few times.
Looking back at her hospital pictures, I can really notice how much she has grown.  Her cheeks are getting chunkier and she has the cutest little double chin.  She's also got quite the belly!
Her eyes are still blue.  I hoped she would get her daddy's blue eyes, and so far it looks like they will be!
As for me, my body started feeling back to normal around 2 weeks.  The first week was pretty brutal.  Although she rarely cried, I didn't get any sleep.  By the time I would be able to fall asleep, she would wake up ready to be fed.  By Sunday, I was a mess.  Luckily, I had both Mom and Kade to help.  They sent me to bed after I cried all day for no reason.

Avery's birth stats:
Weight: 7 pounds 2 ounces, 37th percentile
Height:  21 inches, 93rd percentile (no wonder all the nurses kept saying she was so long!)

One month stats:
Weight: 9.6 pounds, 38th percentile
Length:  22 inches, 59th percentile
