an elephant's faithful one-hundred percent." This quote is from Horton Hatches the Egg. This was a favorite of the students! As I said last week, I would post photos of the rest of our Seuss activities. We finished our Dr. Seuss book study on Monday and then we went to see The Lorax Tuesday night. I do wish everyone would have been able to attend.

Here are our Horton projects. Students had to write the meaning of "faithful." I found the activity at Finally in First.

Many students also used their "pen name" on their project. That lesson was a hit! 

Last Friday we worked with one of my favorite Dr. Seuss stories Bartholomew and the Oobleck. After reading the book we discussed the lesson that Dr. Seuss wanted to teach readers. The lesson is to apologize when we make a mistake. A student said that the lesson was to be "accountable." I was so proud! That stems from our  C.A.R.E.S. work. Click here to read more on that.
Anyway, we became scientists and made our own Oobleck.

We had a blast! We discussed solids and liquids and used our senses to describe the Oobleck. And I am sure every parent was thrilled that I sent a piece home wit the kids :).

Here is the recipe if you want to try it at home. I suggest cutting it in half. The recipe is what we used in class.

Here we are at the movies on Tuesday night. The movie was fantastic! We had read The Lorax over the past week.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

What a fun week! Our Stations, Reading Workshop, and Theme have all been centered around one of my most favorite authors...Dr. Seuss.

Literacy Stations have been a blast thanks to Mrs. Oakes' Dr. Seuss Lessons. I use a lot of Mrs. Oakes' units and resources in our class. They are absolutely AMAZING! If you are a primary teacher, I highly suggest you check them out. She is also the author of the Fabulous in First blog.

 

We also celebrated Wacky Wednesday on Leap Day.

 

Today students worked with Horton Hatches the Egg. Tomorrow is Bartholomew and Oobleck.  I will be sure to post photos this weekend. I want close with our Dr. Seuss greetings. This Dr. Seuss camera app was introduced to me by Mrs. Oakes. The kids couldn't get enough of it today!

Let's Catch Up!

So sorry! It has been awhile. I was debating whether or not to post these photos, but there's so much great stuff going on in Rm 105, I had to share with you. This is what we did last week. In addition to our unit on Presidents and American Symbols, we worked with the number 10, long e, and Literary Nonfiction. Schoolhouse Symphony came to visit too!

Here we are at Schoolhouse Symphony.

We worked on Nonfiction using books on Barack Obama, George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln.

In Math, our focus was the number 10.

Here we are playing How Many am I Hiding.

 This game was a favorite: Tens Go Fish.

We also learned about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and American Symbols. We read various books, watched biographies, and completed several activities from Deanna Jump's America unit.
