As I Go Gently

As I go gently into the night

A photo of you in my sights

I hold it in the palm of my hand

Caressing the face of a handsome man

A gleam in your eyes

A smile so bright

A man I adore with a bond so tight

I kiss the tip of my finger

Then press it to your lips

Whispering goodnight sweet man

As I begin to slip

I will dream of us

You will hold me tight

Come my love

And

Take me gently into the night

Waiting

Andy Tennant’s ‘The Secret: Dare to dream’ brought me to posting this amazingly beautiful delicate song.

In the first few seconds this song started playing, I was immediately drawn to its beautiful lyrics.

They have touched me in ways, I dare to dream.

June 3, ‘Ode to Billy Joe’ Day

June 3 marks an important date in Mississippi music.

On this date, Billie Joe McAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge in Leflore County and a song was made in his memory.

This song was recorded by Bobby Gentry, who was born in Chickasaw County, Mississippi. Gentry made a recording in 1967 and it soared to the top of the music charts.

The song tells the story through the eyes of the family that knew McAllister and hearing about his death. Near the end of the song, one set of lyrics stand out to the listener.

“He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge

And she and Billy Joe was throwing somethin’ off the Tallahatchie Bridge.”

A movie about the song was made in the 1970’s and it was called an “Ode to Billy Joe.”

This song is a classic and I have always liked it. It seems fitting to post today, June 3rd.

When I Wasn’t Watching

This is Mandy Moore’s first single out in over a decade. I came across this song a few weeks ago, and the lyrics really spoke to me. I was like wow, this is me. I think most of us can perhaps relate about rediscovering or discovering ourself as different, when nobody’s watching. That private part of us when we are alone.

I hope you enjoy.

Protection

A song I really like to listen to and has a home on my playlist of music. If you watched the Justified series which is fantastic, it plays in season 6 I believe.

Warrior Women

When God created woman, he was working late on the 6th day…

An angel came by and asked, “Why spend so much time on her?” The lord answered, “Have you seen all the specifications I have to meet to shape her?”

“She must function in all kinds of situations, she must be able to embrace several kids at the same time, have a hug that can heal anything from a bruised knee to a broken heart.

She must do all this with only two hands, she cures herself when sick and can work 18 hours a day.”

The Angel was impressed. “Just two hands…impossible! And this is the standard model?” The Angel came closer and touched the woman.

“But you have made her so soft, Lord.”

“She is soft,” said the Lord, “But I have made her strong. You can’t imagine what she can endure and overcome.”

“Can she think?” The Angel asked…The Lord answered, “Not only can she think, she can reason and negotiate.”

The Angel touched her cheeks…”Lord, it seems this creation is leaking! You have put too many burdens on her.”

“She is not leaking…it is a tear,” The Lord corrected the Angel…

“What’s it for?” Asked the Angel…The Lord said, “Tears are her way of expressing her grief, her doubts, her love, her loneliness, her suffering and her pride.”…

This made a big impression on the Angel,

“Lord, you are a genius. You thought of everything.

A woman is indeed marvellous”

Lord said, “Indeed she is. She has strength that amazes a man. She can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens. She holds happiness, love and opinions. She smiles when she feels like screaming. She sings when she feels like crying, cries when happy and laughs when afraid. She fights for what she believes in.

Her love is unconditional. Her heart is broken when a next-of-kin or a friend dies but she finds strength to get on with life.”

The Angel asked, “So she is a perfect being?”

The lord replied: “No. She has just one drawback, she often forgets what she is worth.”

Hair

Her mane the softest of hair

Lustrous long and brown

Some days it is kept styled and calmed

Most days it is kept wild and untamed

There are days she wraps it in a bun

Throws on a baseball cap

Pulls it in a ponytail

Wears a headband

Or even french braids

There are days when it is flat and straight

Some days it has body and a curl

But everyday

When she brushes her hair

She longs for his hands to softly caress and stroke its softness

A heaven she would delight in

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

This is one of the sweetest songs that has ever been written by anyone. Ewan MacColl wrote this song at the request of a special someone, who needed it for use in a play she was appearing in. He taught it to her by long distance telephone as she was on tour in the United States.

It became a No. 1 hit in 1972 when recorded by the very talented Roberta Flack.

When I listen to this song, I close my eyes and imagine how lucky of a woman to have inspired such beautiful words. The lyrics are so romantic.

My favorite lyric being “And I knew our joy would fill the earth”. It is my favorite lyric because I believe this to be true. Especially the joy of two lovers coming together for the first time.

Hot Rod Hearts

Hot Rod Hearts was released in 1980 and today is still a beloved classic song.

While playing a round of racquetball in the gym today this song played loud throughout.

It has been on my mind since. It is housed on my playlist of music so I have been listening, singing and really thinking.

Closing my eyes, I smiled. All I could think about was you. There is no doubt in my mind, that we would have hot rod hearts.
