I know I haven’t written to this blog in a while. But while watching the movie Source Code I just couldn’t help seeing Jake G as Jack and Michelle M as Kate. I mean they were both in a serious situation (bomb leading to a train crash). Neither one of them knew totally what the other one was doing and why. It got me thinking that Source Code could have been another version of LOST.
I wasn’t a big hater of the end of LOST, I actually was fine with it. But I could see why people were disappointed. LOST was a Science Fiction show, but the ending really didn’t have any SI-FY twist to it at all. But Source Code does have a twist and I must say a really good twist. In fact SC’s ending could have been applied to LOST.
Hear me out. In LOST Jack wakes up disoriented on the island having survived a plane crash. In SC, Jake G wakes up to discover he’s on a train that is about to explode. But Jake isn’t who he thinks he is. MINOR SPOILER ALERT to follow.
No Jake isn’t who he thinks he is, he is someone else. He is not on the train at all, his mind is there (like Desmond’s mind was in another time and place in The Constant) but he is not there physically. Similarly all along we were picking up this vibe from LOST that maybe the survivors of 815 weren’t really there. Either they were dead or they were reliving their lives in an alternate reality.
Source Code handles this alternate reality concept in an interesting way that is both intellectually stimulating and emotional satisfying. LOST got the emotionally satisfying part down pat, and the show did answer all of it’s major questions. But I can see why some weren’t happy about the ending. Why no SI-FY ending?
Anyway I hope if you are a LOST fan you will check out Source Code.
