Its Been Tooooo Long!

I'm back!  Finally.  Its been a while since my last post but I've been so busy this year.  I've been so inspired by so many other bloggers and new products.  I finished all my holiday themed activities and we're starting a new unit on Communities.  I started working on my unit and just finished the vocabulary posters.  Being a special education teacher I always try to create vocabulary posters with pictures to help the children to make connections and remember the definitions.  You can click on the link below to download the vocabulary posters.

More Division With 100 Chart Support!!

With the school year winding down we just recently finished our Division Unit!  My kiddies did a great job and learned so many strategies to help remember those division facts.  With my students having special needs I always look for creative ways to help them visualize and develop math strategies.  Last week we worked on divided by 6 and I used half dozen egg cartons to divide large numbers into equal groups.  The kids loved it.

Some of my kiddies also have difficulties counting from 1-100 and they sometimes get stuck.  So I decided to create these cool One Hundred chart cards for some support while counting up to 100.

Butterfly Research Report

I'm so excited to post this freebie!  My school just purchased a Butterfly  kit for the children to investigate and explore the life cycle of butterflies.  My kiddies were so excited about butterflies I figured before we got the kit going we would do some research to learn all about butterflies.  Click the link below to download my Butterfly Research Report resources.  Enjoy The Pics!

Spelling Lists!

Hello.  Here are a few pictures of how I post and list my spelling words for the week.  I have two different spelling groups that were developed using the Words Their Way Spelling Assessment.  I have a small class of only 9 children so it worked out where I have two different spelling groups. Each group is colored coded. We use the same High Frequency spelling words. I print out the word on paper, cut them, and glue them on index cards.  Off course, I laminate them for use next year (if I'm still teaching the same grade which I HOPE!). Being a special education teacher we tend to move around depending on placements.  Here are some pics!

EARTH DAY & APRIL FUN !!

I feel like I've been gone so long, but I have been so busy preparing for the New York State test and really haven't had a chance to get any fun activities going for my kiddies. However we did have some time to make some cool butterflies last week to launch our butterfly unit! We used the butterflies to decorate our door. They came out really cool. I got some tissue paper and pipe cleaner to make the creative bugs.

Rainbows, Butterflies, & Caterpillars Oh My!!
Does anybody else have any cool door designs?

Earth Day was also another excuse to do some fun activities so I found a cute activity by Amy Lemons for Earth Day.  She comes up with the coolest activities and simple enough for my kiddies to do.  Modifications and adaptations is the story of my classroom with my students, but she always creates activities that are fun, challenging, and engaging that my kids can complete with little support.

St. Patricks Day Activities

My kiddies have been doing so much geometry this past week! I decided to give them a break and do some fun St. Patty's activities.  They get a break and I get to decorate my room with some rainbows and pots of gold.  We read the story Jamie O'Rourke and the Big Potato by Tomie dePaola.  The children loved this story.  Specifically when Jamie found the Leprechaun.  I had my class make connections to the text by asking them, "What would you do if you found a Leprechaun with a pot of gold?"  The end product came out really cute.

The children wrote a paragraph answering the writing prompt
from a reproducible I found that I used last year.

I also stumbled across this shamrock activity by Mrs. Zrihen at A Teacher's Treasure while blog stalking.  She created a shamrock craftivity using a KWL chart.  My kiddies loved it!  Before reading a story about St. Patricks Day we filled in what we know and what we want to know about St. Patrick's Day.  I was surprised to see how much my children knew and how much I didn't know!  I learn too when I teach :) .  Anyway, we then completed the L-learn part of the chart and cut out the craftivity.  She originally used four parts, KWHL, but I decided to modify it to fit the needs of my class.  Our shamrocks came out amazing. SO MUCH FUN!

Making Congruent Shapes

My kiddies have been doing so well with our Geometry Unit!  I used geo-boards this last week to implement a hands on approach to teach Congruence with plane figures.  They loved it!  They did not want to put these boards down.  We also made similar shapes as well.  I purchased these from Lakeshore Learning website.  Check out the pictures.   Click Here To Purchase  geoboards.

Polygon Power Project!

I just finished a project that goes along with my Geometry unit we will be working on this up coming week.  We read the story "The Greedy Triangle" by Marilyn Burns.  To review and explore different polygons we made real life objects that represent different polygons. Please Click the link below to purchase on my TPT website.  Thanks!!!

Image
My students really enjoyed reading this book.  The triangle
changes into different shapes by adding sides until he can't
take it anymore and the triangle just wants to be itself.

Image
My students did a great job at choosing things
that were made of many polygons.

Included in this packet is the project along with a Polygon
Concentration game. To purchase click the link below.

Black History Month Activities

I had so much fun covering prominent African American figures in history this month.  I love it when I'm teaching and I learn something new as well.  Amy Lemons embodies the word creativity.  She came up with these cool activities that were fun and easy for the children in my class to complete after learning about African American Heroes.  Since then I've been a follower of her site.  Here are a few pics of what my kiddies did.  Enjoy!

My students are so creative.  Look how she embellished her lips and eyes! Adorable
