Tips for Staying Safe at a Live Concert

Live concerts can be a lot of fun. Seeing your favorite bands performing live in front of you, hanging out with some good friends, dancing in a crowd of strangers are all ways to have a really good time. However, live concerts also present a unique set of safety concerns. If you’re not prepared to handle them all, your concert going experience may quickly turn sour. Here are some handy tips for making sure you stay safe at a live concert:

Dress for It

Concerts are often held in tightly packed venues with too little air conditioning or at outdoor venues during the summer. You will want to make sure that you dress for this hot weather so that you don’t overheat and pass out in the crowd. Wear light clothing and avoid multiple layers or extraneous accessories like bags, hats, jackets, or other unnecessary things. You’ll want to spend the concert watching the band anyway, rather than guarding your bags, so leave most of your stuff at home.

Stay Hydrated

One thing that you will want to have with you, though, is a good water bottle. Staying hydrated is extremely important in a hot, high-energy environment where you’ll be sweating a lot. Drink plenty of water prior to going to the concert and make sure to replace your fluids at regular intervals. It’s best to have your own water bottle with you as there are not always water fountains available at the venues and drinks that you get from a bar may be tampered with if you don’t keep your eye on them the whole time.

Conceal Your Money

You are at risk of being mugged on your way to and from the concert if you’re keeping money on your person, as well as pickpocketed during the concert. With so many people jammed into one space and bumping into each other, it can be very hard to notice. Keep extra money in a place that is difficult to get to, such as in your shoe, and don’t flash it around or advertise that you have it on you. If people see you with a large sum of money, you may become a target.

Go With Friends

You know what they say- there’s safety in numbers. Going to a concert with friends is not only way a great way to bond and have a good time hanging out with your pals, but it can also help keep you safe. Having a designated “buddy” can ensure that you don’t get pulled away from the group and into an undesirable situation. Stick with your buddy!

Scope out the Security

Wherever you end up in the crowd, take a moment to scope out the nearest security guard so that you know where to head if something goes wrong. It’s always better to have an emergency plan in place before something bad happens rather than trying to figure it all out in the moment.
