Who comes off looking good and bad in the choking incident at Pete's?
Some reflexively say "I back the blue" and take the City version at face value....Others say Milly's actions helped save a life and that the video shows nothing profound happening...Nothing profound enough to ruminate for two weeks on whether to charge the former First Lady of Watertown and then sticking with the story in court by offering an ACD Milly would be foolish to take.
ACDs are fine when your kid does something wrong and the judge cuts some slack in the interest of justice. No publicity...No reputational damage...This is different....This was meant to embarrass.
It's surprising the Third Floor didn't intervene early and say this juice isn't worth the squeeze.....The DA seems to want to protect the City's image by making sure there is some kind of admission of guilt, even though there are no consequences.
It's too bad the community this weekend lost one of its best lawyers able to see nonsense when it appears....The goal at this point is not justice as who cares what happened...It's to extract reputational damage from the City and that may happen, although Milly haters will still hide behind their suddenly acquired desire to "back the blue."
This is when it's tough to be an elected mayor or council members, as you know the City is wrong but feel obliged to back the people you hired to run it....Kinda like those speed bumps, or back in my day the staff and lawyer nuttiness over Jakes fence.
