Once there was a different Web and a different Dinah. An easier and safer place to share and find individual creativity. A younger person more interested in putting themselves out into the world to be found and connected with, and more willing to keep their “off-board memory” in a public place.
Things have changed. In writing this post I had to go into preferences to turn off the thing that was suggesting my next words, that was talking over my own voice as I composed my thoughts. And I know that particular technology is powered by creative theft from things shared publicly in good faith.
That auto-suggesting ‘splainer is the general technology situation writ small and I am stepping away. This blog is now intentionally, fully silent after 27.5 years. It’s not me, tech; it’s you.
