Marcel Ruijters (1966, Holland) spent some years at art school in the 1980s but the advent of the xerox machine made self-publishing possible for a whole generation and Ruijters was one of those who rose to the occasion. This resulted in titles such as Onbegrijpelijke Verhalen, Mandragoora, Dr. Molotow, Fun&Games, Thank God it’s Ugly and some other rare one-shots. Is editor for the Rotterdam-based magazine Zone 5300, writes comics criticism, does illustrations, translations and everything that comes with that. His books has been published in Holland (Oog & Blik), Portugal (Polvo), USA (Top Shelf) and France (Editions de l’An 2 (Angoulême). His lates book, Inferno was translated in Portuguese by MMMNNNRRRG and his first solo exhibition in Portugal was helded in Mundo Fantasma (December 2012).

About the project
Checkpoint is a work in progress of silkscreen posters, made by international artists during occasional visits to Lisbon, Portugal.
Like check point agents, we ask the artist in transit to leave a printed mark of his passage by.
We don’t propose a thematic manifestation, but we appreciate a sturdy graphic.
With this project, we aim to create an international cluster of startling expressions, through the silkscreen medium.
