Capstone Practicum - BYUi 333

CAPSTONE PRACTICUM

Forgiveness:

Because of the atonement of Christ, I have the opportunity to be forgiven of my sins. I am human and I do make mistakes.  There are a lot of things I have done to offend others, I have said things I should not, I make mistakes every day.  I am thankful for the teachings in my life that as I forgive others I also can be forgiven. We all want to be forgiven for our mistakes.  It is a commandment that we forgive others as well.  As I try to be like my Savior, I will be more willing to forgive others along my way on this journey called life.

1)    “Somehow forgiveness, with love and tolerance, accomplishes miracles that can happen in no other way. (President Gordon B. Hinckley, “Forgiveness” October 2005 General Conference.)

2)    “In all of our sacred scripture, there is no more beautiful story of forgiveness than that of the prodigal son.” (President Gordon B. Hinckley, “Forgiveness” October 2005 General Conference.)

3)    Each one of us encounters unique challenges meant for growth. Also, our own bad choices can put more barriers in the path. Yet we have the capacity to smooth out the way, to fill in the depressions, and to beautify our course. The process is called repentance; the destination is forgiveness.” (Elder Richard G. Scott, “Finding Forgiveness” April 1995 General Conference.)

4)    “The essence of the miracle of forgiveness is that it brings peace to the previously anxious, restless, frustrated, perhaps tormented soul. …God will wipe away … the tears of anguish, and remorse, and fear, and guilt.” (President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Point of Safe Return”, April 2007 General Conference. Quoting Spencer W. Kimball,)

5)    “Once we have truly repented, Christ will take away the burden of guilt for our sins.  We can know for ourselves that we have been forgiven and made clean. The Holy Ghost will verify this to us; He is the Sanctifier. No other testimony of forgiveness can be greater.” (President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Point of Safe Return”, April 2007 General Conference.)

 6)    “Nowhere is the generosity and mercy of God more manifest than in repentance.” (President Boyd K. Packer, “The Plan of Happiness”, April 2015 General Conference.)
7)    “If we can find forgiveness in our hearts for those who have caused us hurt and injury, we will rise to a higher level of self-esteem and well-being.” (President James E. Faust, “The Healing Power of Forgiveness”, April 2007 General Conference.)

 8)    “To the extent we give forgiveness to others, we can expect to receive forgiveness for ourselves.” (Elder Theodore M. Burton, “To Forgive is Divine” April 1983 General Conference.)

 9)    “But not only our eternal salvation depended upon our willingness and capacity to forgive wrongs committed against us.  Our joy and satisfaction in this life and our true freedom, depend upon our doing so.” (Brother Marion D. Hanks, “Forgiveness: The Ultimate Form of Love” October 1973 General Conference.)

 10)  “The Savior has made it clear that to receive forgiveness you must forgive others their offenses against you.” (Elder Richard G. Scott, “Peace of Conscience and Peace of Mind”, October 2004 General Conference.)

Marriage:

Marriage is such a sacred covenant and an important one as well.  I’m thankful I was taught at an early age as to what a blessing an Eternal Marriage can do for one in your life.  I am thankful for the example my parents showed me.  I have always wanted to be married in the Temple and although I married late in life, I’m thankful for my eternal companion.  I love that marriage brings grater possibilities for happiness.  There is so much confusion in the world today as to the leniencies of same sex marriage.  I am grateful for the knowledge I have of eternal families.

1)    There is no blessing more precious to me than the peace and comfort I receive from the knowledge I have that she and I will be together again.” (Pres Thomas S. Monson, “Blessings of the Temple” Conference April 2015,)

 2)    “Tomorrow would have been our 65th wedding anniversary. She was the love of my life, my trusted confidant, and my closest friend. To say that I miss her does not begin to convey the depth of my feelings. She and I were married in the Salt Lake Temple on October 7, 1948” (President Thomas S. Monson, “Blessings of the Temple” Conference April 2015.)

3)    “I wish to testify that the principles and covenants of the gospel, particularly those of the temple, are the best possible basis on which to build a strong union; and that such a marriage never just happens.” (Elder Marion D. Hanks, “Eternal Marriage” October 1984 General Conference.)

 4)    “Marriage is the shelter where families are created. That society which puts low value on marriage sows the wind and, in time, will reap the whirlwind – and thereafter, unless they repent, bring upon themselves a holocaust!” (Elder Boyd K. Packer, “Marriage”, April 1981 General Conference.)

5)    “Marriage is yet safe, with all its sweet fulfillment, with all its joy and love.  In marriage all of the worthy yearnings of the human soul, all that is physical and emotional and spiritual, can be fulfilled.” (Elder Boyd K. Packer, “Marriage”, April 1981 General Conference.)

6)    “Marriage brings greater possibilities for happiness than does any other human relationship.” (Elder Russell M. Nelson, “Nurturing Marriage”, April 2006 General Conference.)

7)    “The Lord declared that marriage is the legal wedding of one man and one woman: ‘Marriage is ordained of God unto man.” (Elder Russell M. Nelson, “Nurturing Marriage”, April 2006 General Conference.)

 8)    “Modern prophets have warned that looking upon marriage ‘as a mere contract that may be entered into at pleasure… and severed at the first difficulty… is an evil meriting severe condemnation.” (Elder Dallin H. Oaks, “Divorce” April 2007 General Conference.)

9)    “Two individuals approaching the marriage alter must realize that to attain the happy marriage which they hope for they must know that marriage… means sacrifice, sharing, and even a reduction of some personal liberties.” (Elder Dallin H. Oaks, “Divorce” April 2007 General Conference. Quoting Spencer W. Kimball.)

 10)  “I read that two essential ingredients to a successful marriage are a cookie and a kiss.” (President Boyd K. Packer, “The Plan of Happiness”, April 2015 General Conference.)

11)  Some postpone marriage until education is complete and a job obtained. While widely accepted in the world, this reasoning does not demonstrate faith, does not comply with counsel of modern prophets, and is not compatible with sound doctrine.”(Quinton L. Cook, “Choose Wisely” October 2014 General Conference.)

Being Prepared ye shall not fear:

The Church has taught us so many good and useful things of being prepared for the unknown.  If we just listen and follow the counsel of our living Prophet today we will not fear and we will be prepared for the unknown. We have been counseled on so many inspired subjects and if we adhear to the messages given we should not fear.  My parents have taught me at a young age and set great examples for me of how to listen and obey. Through thoughtful care and preparation we are given a reassurance and comfort that helps us live our lives without fear.

1)    “As with the mighty Bismarck,‍ so it is with man. The thrust of the turbines and the power of the propellers are useless without that sense of direction, that harnessing of the energy, that directing of the power provided by the rudder, hidden from view, relatively small in size but absolutely essential in function.” (President Thomas S. Monson, “Guided Safely Home” Conference 2014)

2)    “Always remember that people are looking to you for leadership and you are influencing the lives of individuals either for good or for bad, which influence will be felt for generations to come.” (President Thomas S. Monson, “Guided Safely Home” Conference April 2015 priesthood session.)

 3)    “Unless a man shall endure to the end, in following the example of the Son of the Living God, he cannot be saved.” (President Monson, “Ponder the Path of Thy Feet” Conference October 2014)

 4)    “We cannot expect His help if we are unwilling to keep His commandments.” (President Gordon B. Hinckley, “If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear”, October 2005 General Conference.)

 5)    “If we do not have a deep foundation of faith and a solid testimony of truth, we may have difficulty withstanding the harsh storms and icy winds of adversity which inevitably come to each of us.” (President Thomas S. Monson, “On Being Spiritually Prepared A Foundation of Faith”)

 6)    “May we be quickened in our hearts with a firm resolve that night on the priority list during the months ahead will be the strengthening of our priesthood quorums.” (Elder L. Tom Perry, “If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear”, October 1995 General Conference.)

 7)    “Our Father provided the sun, the moon, and the stars—heavenly galaxies to guide mariners who sail the lanes of the sea. To us, as we walk the pathway of life, He provides a clear map and points the way toward our desired destination. He cautions: beware the detours, the pitfalls, the traps. We cannot be deceived by those who would lead us astray, those clever pied pipers of sin beckoning here or there. Instead, we pause to pray; we listen to that still, small voice which speaks to the depths of our souls the Master’s gentle invitation, “Come, follow me.” (President Thomas S. Monson, “Guided Safely Home” October 2014 General Conference.)

8)    “So if you feel small and weak, please simply come unto Christ, who makes weak things strong.” (President Dieter F. Uchtdorf- “ On Being Genuine” Conference 2015.)

 9)    “The years have come and the years have gone, but the need for a testimony of the gospel continues paramount.  As we move toward the future, we must not neglect the lessons of the past.” (President Thomas S. Monson, “On Being Spiritually Prepared A Foundation of Faith”.)

10) “Rich promises are made by the Lord to those who fast and assist the needy. Inspiration and spiritual guidance will come with righteousness and closeness to our Heavenly Father.  To omit to do this righteous act of fasting would deprive us of these blessing.” (President Eyring, “Is Not This the Fast That I Have Chosen?”, Conference April 2015.)

Parenthood:

Although I am not a parent I have had the best examples in my life of the wonderful companionship two people could be.  They gave me the best tools I could use if the time every came that I were a parent.  Even though I am not a parent I have many nieces and nephews that I can show love to and be an example to.  I love that President Packer said that “Parenthood stands among the most important activities to which Latter-day Saints may devote themselves.”  That speaks volumes.  There are so many children in the world today that could use a good example and a little parenting to guide them throughout their lives.  So many children these days end up raising themselves, they come home from school and let the television give them their activities for the rest of the evening.  I am thankful for a mom that could be home with me while I was growing up.

1)    “As a visitor from the US sat with Abie he noticed a set of scriptures that were on the table.  “He could tell that they were a treasure, well-marked with notes in the columns,  The pages warn, some were torn.  He found a yellow copy of a tithing donation slip.  He could see that, in a country where a dollar was worth its weight in gold, Abie Turay had paid one dollar as her tithing, one dollar to the missionary found, and one dollar as a fast offering for those who, in her words, were truly poor.” (President Henry B. Eyring  Is Not This the Fast That I Have Chosen?”, Conference April 2015.)

 2)    “Parenthood stands among the most important activities to which Latter-day Saints may devote themselves.” (Elder Boyd K. Packer, “Parents in Zion” October 1998 General Conference.)

3)    “Often we hear. ‘We must provide frequent and exciting activities lest our youth will go to less wholesome places.” Some of them will.  But I have the conviction that if we teach parents to be responsible and allow them sufficient time, over the long course their children will be at home.” (Elder Boyd K. Packer, “Parents in Zion” October 1998 General Conference.)

 4)    “One of the most rewarding of all human undertakings is that of making a success of marriage and of rearing children in a manner acceptable to the Lord.  It calls for the best in all of us.” (ElRay L. Christiansen, “Successful Parenthood – A Noteworthy Accomplishment”, April 1972 General Conference.)

 5)    Parents cannot, without regrettable consequences, shirk the responsibility of teaching and showing their children through their example the attributes of character that lead them unhesitatingly to appreciate and accept the good, the decent, the beautiful, and help them to develop the desire and the courage to turn from that which is coarse or crude or wrong.” (ElRay L. Christiansen, “Successful Parenthood – A Noteworthy Accomplishment”, April 1972 General Conference.)

 6)    The Lord’s plan for us has been designated a “plan of happiness” (see Alma 42:8, 16). If we are not generally happy and are not suffering from a clinical illness, perhaps the solution is to let the Lord’s plan work more fully in our lives. Even those suffering from clinical depression can still be blessed by obedience to the plan. Happiness can come through drawing near to the Lord and needn’t be dependent on our external circumstances.” (Garth Hanson and Steve Hanson, “Families Are Forever – and So Is Parenthood”, Ensign July 2006.)

 7)     “It is said that ‘to be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved.’ The greatest trust that can come to a man and woman is the placing in their keeping the life of a little child.” (O. Leslie Stone, “Parenthood”, October 1976 General Conference.)

 8)    Parental responsibility cannot go unheeded, nor can it be shifted to day-care centers, nor to the schoolroom, nor even to the Church. Family responsibility comes by divine decree. Parents may violate this decree only at the peril of their eternal salvation.” (O. Leslie Stone, “Parenthood”, October 1976 General Conference.)

9)    Loving, protecting, and nurturing our children are among the most sacred and eternally important things we will do. Worldly belongings will vanish, today’s number-one movie or song will be irrelevant tomorrow, but a son or a daughter is eternal.” (W. Douglas Shumway, “Marriage and Family: Our Sacred Responsibility”, April 2004 General Conference.)

 10) Although the adversary seeks to destroy the key elements necessary for a happy marriage and a righteous family, let me assure you that the gospel of Jesus Christ provides the tools and teachings necessary to combat and conquer the assailant in this war.” (W. Douglas Shumway, “Marriage and Family: Our Sacred Responsibility”, April 2004 General Conference.)

Family:

I was raised in a large family and so thankful for the experiences I received because of it. I am thankful for the time my parents spent with my family and taught me right from wrong.  Families are instituted from our Heavenly Father, we are taught how the Lord wants us to live.  When a family is sealed for time and all eternity, we are promised certain things as to return together someday.  I am grateful for my family and the blessings they have brought to me in my live and thankful we will be together again even after death.

 1)    “During the war, this blanket kept us warm, me and my children.  When the rebels would come to attack this is He only thing I could lay my hands on as we fled to the bush to hide.  So we would take the blanket with us.  It would keep us warm and keep the mosquitos away from us.” (President Henry B. Eyring, “Is Not This the Fast That I Have Chosen?”, Conference April 2015.)

 2)    “Strong family cultures will help our children live in the world and not ‘become of the world.” (Elder L. Tom Perry, “Becoming Goodly Parents”, October 2012 General Conference.)

3)    “Parents must resolve that teaching in the home is a most sacred and important responsibility.” (Elder L. Tom Perry, “Mothers Teaching Children in the Home”, October 2010 General Conference.)

4)    “The family relationships we have here on this earth are important, but they are much more important for their effect on our families for generations in mortality and throughout all eternity.” (Elder Robert D. Hales, “The Eternal Family”, October 1996 General Conference.)

5)    “We need to make our homes a place of refuge from the storm, which is increasing in intensity all about us.  Even if the smallest openings are left unattended, negative influences can penetrate the very walls of our homes.” (Elder L. Tom Perry, “The Importance of the family”, October 2003 General Conference.)

6)    “The world needs to know what the proclamation teaches, because the family is the basic unit of society, of the economy, of our culture, and of our government.” (Elder L. Tom Perry, “The Importance of the family”, October 2003 General Conference.)

7)    “Public opinion surveys indicate the people everywhere in the world generally consider the family as the highest priority; yet in recent years the broader culture seems to ignore or misdefine the family.” (Elder M. Russell Ballard, “What Matters Most is What Lasts Longest”, October 2005 General Conference.)

8)    “The most powerful teaching of children is by the example of their parents.” (Elder Dallin H. Oaks, “Protect the Children”, October 2012 General Conference.)

9)    “The joining together of a man and a woman to be legally and lawfully wed… brings the greatest joy in satisfaction that can be found in this mortal experience… Children born to such marriages have a security that is found nowhere else.” (Elder L. Tom Perry, “Becoming Goodly Parents”, October 2012 General Conference.)

10) “The family is the foundation for love and for maintaining spirituality. The family promotes an atmosphere where religious observance can flourish.  There is indeed ‘beauty all around when there is love at home.” (Elder Quentin L. Cook, “Can Ye Feel So Now? October 2012,)

11)  “If we faithfully have family prayer, scripture study, family home evening, priesthood blessings, and Sabbath day observance, our children will know what time it is at home.” (Elder Quentin L. Cook, “The Lord Is My Light”, April 2015 General Conference,)

Atonement:

I get emotional every time I think of the Atonement and the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for me. I love Elder Holland’s quote, “However late you think you are, however many chances you think you have missed, however many mistakes you fell you have made or talents you think you don’t have, or however far from home and family and God you fell you have traveled, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love. It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement.”  This says it for me and the way I feel that even if I feel short, or not enough on the things of this life, I can always come back and ask for forgiveness.  I am so grateful for our leaders, parents, teachers and the scriptures that have helped me recognize the great importance the Atonement is in my life.

1)    “Only the Master knows the depths of our trials, our pain, and our suffering. He alone offers us eternal peace in times of adversity. He alone touches our tortured souls with His comforting words:
“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
“For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (President Thomas S. Monson, “I Will Not Fail Thee, nor Forsake Thee” General Conference, October 2013.)

2)     “You and I want that warm welcome from the Savior.  But how can we deserve it?  There are more hungry, homeless, and lonely children of Heavenly Father than we can possibly reach.  And the numbers grow ever farther from our reach.” (President Henry B. Eyring, Is Not This the Fast That I Have Chosen?”, Conference April 2015.)

 3)    “No matter what our transgressions have been, no matter how much our actions may have hurt others that guilt can all be wipe out.” (President Boyd K. Packer, “The Atonement”, October 2012 General Conference.)

4)    Trust and confidence in Christ and a ready reliance on His merits, mercy, and grace lead to hope, through His Atonement, in the Resurrection‍ and eternal life.” (Elder David A. Bednar, “Therefore They Hushed Their Fears” April 2015 General Conference.)

 5)    “If you have made no mistakes, then you do not need the Atonement, If you have made mistakes, and all of us have, whether minor or serious, then you have an enormous need to find out how they can be erased so that you are no longer in darkness.” (President Boyd K. Packer, “The Atonement”, October 2012 General Conference.)

6)    “However late you think you are, however many chances you think you have missed, however many mistakes you fell you have made or talents you think you don’t have, or however far from home and family and God you fell you have traveled, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love. It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement.” (Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, “The Atonement Can Secure Your Peace and Happiness,” October 2006 General Conference.  )

 7)    “Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou hast never before heard nor seen…  Wherefore, go to, thy faith hath made thee whole.” (Elder David A. Bednar, “Come and See” October 2014 General Conference)

8)    “His magnificent atoning sacrifice is of transcendent significance beyond mortal comprehension.” (Elder Quentin L. Cook, “The Lord Is My Light”, April 2015 General Conference.)

 9)    “Only the life, teachings, and particularly the atonement of Jesus Christ‍ can release us from this otherwise impossible predicament. Each of us has made mistakes, large or small, which if unresolved will keep us from the presence of God.” (Elder Richard G. Scott, “Finding Forgiveness” May Ensign 1995)

10) “If we seek to understand His Atonement, we will come to a deep reverence for the Lord Jesus Christ, His earthly ministry, and His divine mission as our Savior.” (President Boyd K. Packer, “The Reason for Our Hope”, October 2014 General Conference)

 11) “Though you may feel that no one can understand the depth of your despair, our Savior Jesus Christ understands.” (President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Your Happily Every After”, 2010 General Young Women’s Meeting,)

 Agency:

We came to this earth because we had the opportunity to make a choice.  Our Heavenly Father has given us the free agency to make choices in our lives and hopes they are the correct ones.  If we make good choices in our daily lives we are promised peace, joy, and happiness as we keep the commandments. Lucifer did not want to give us a choice and wanted to take our agency away from us. Our agency allows us to have a positive attitude, to do right by others and to serve others.  I am thankful that I was given my agency and have been taught to make good choices in my life.

1)    “Priesthood, Please, before you put yourself and your priesthood in jeopardy by venturing into places or participating in activities which are not worthy of you or of that priesthood, pause to consider the consequences.” (President Monson, ”Guided Safely Home”,  April 2015)

2)    “We can’t direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.  For maximum happiness, peace and contentment, may we choose a positive attitude.” (President Thomas S. Monson, “Living the Abundance Life”, Ensign, January 2012.)

3)    “Our love for our Father in Heaven and the Lord Jesus Christ needs to be reflected in our daily choices and actions.  They have promised peace, joy, and happiness to those who keep Their commandments.” (Elder M. Russell Ballard, “O That Cunning Plan of the Evil One”, October 2010)

4)    Agency allows us to be tested and tried to see whether or not we will endure to the end and return to our Heavenly Father with honor... Agency permits us to make faithful, obedient choices that strengthen us so that we can lift and strengthen others.” (Elder Robert D. Hales, LDS.org website.)

 5)    “There is also an age-old excuse: 'The devil made me do it.' Not so! He can deceive you and mislead you, but he does not have the power to force you or anyone else to transgress or to keep you in transgression.” (President Boyd K. Packer, “Cleansing the Inner Vessel”, October 2010 General Conference.)

6)    “We have implanted in our souls a desire to be free.  The Lord understood this when He granted us our mortal probation.  With that freedom, however, comes accountability.  We are instructed not to idle away our time nor bury our talents and not use them.  We are expected to make our lives better through our own initiatives and efforts.” (Elder L. Tom Perry, “Youth of the Noble Birthright” October 1998.)

 7)    You are to do the choosing here and now during this exciting and wonderful time on earth. Moral agency, the freedom to choose, is certainly one of God’s greatest gifts next to life itself. We have the honorable right to choose; therefore, we need to choose the right. This is not always easy.” (President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Your Right to Choose the Right”, New Era, August 2005,)

8)    “Endowed with agency, you and I are agents, and we primarily are to act and not just be acted upon. To believe that someone or something can make us feel offended, angry, hurt, or bitter diminishes our moral agency and transforms us into objects to be acted upon. As agents, however, you and I have the power to act and to choose how we will respond to an offensive or hurtful situation.” (Elder David A. Bednar, “And Nothing Shall Offend Them” October 2006.)

9)    “Its not so much what happens to us but how we deal with what happens to us.” (President James E. Faust. “Where Do I Make My Stand?” October 2004 General Conference.)
10) “No power on earth, no power beneath the earth, will ever prevent you or me or any Latter-day Saint from being saved, except ourselves.” (President Heber J. Grant, “Teachings of Presidents of the Church”,)

Pornography

Pornography has changed over the years, it is so much more accessible now days.  I have been counseled by my Stake President that this is one of the leading problems in the church today.  It is addictive and can damage marriages, families and the individual involved.  Today it is so easy to access and easy to hide the problem while viewing.  There is always a way out if you remember to ask for help and ask for help from our Heavenly Father.  We have been counseled to completely stay away from pornography it is like binding chains that is hard to get rid of.

1)             “Addiction often begins subtly.  Addictions are thin threads of repeated actions that weave themselves into thick bonds of habit.” (President Uchtdorf, “Are you sleeping through the Restoration,” April 2014 Conference.)

2)             “Participation in pornography in any of its lurid forms is a manifestation of unbridled selfishness”. (Elder Richard G. Scott, “To Acquire Spiritual Guidance”, October 2009 General Conference.)

 3)             These binding chains of addiction can have many forms, like pornography, alcohol, sex, drugs, tobacco, gambling, food, work, the Internet, or virtual reality. Satan, our common enemy, has many favorite tools he uses to rob us of our divine potential to accomplish our mission in the Lord’s kingdom.” (President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Are you sleeping through the Restoration”, April 2014 Conference.)

4)             “Tragically, the same computer and internet service that allows me to do my family history and prepare those names for temple would and could, without filters and controls, allow my children or grandchildren access to a global cesspool of perceptions that could blast a crater in their brains forever.” (Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, “Place No More for the Enemy of My Soul”, April 2010 General Conference.)

 5)             “Addictions that impair agency, contradict moral beliefs and destroy good health cause bondage.” (Quentin L. Cook “Beware of Bondage,” April 2013 Conference)

 6)             “Some involved in pornography apparently minimize its seriousness and continue to exercise the priesthood of God because they think no one will know of their involvement, but the user knows, brethren, and so does the Lord.” (Elder Dallin H. Oaks, “Pornography”, April 2005 General Conference.)

7)             “Always remember, with the Savior’s help, you can break free from addiction. It may be a long, difficult path, but the Lord will not give up on you. He loves you. Jesus Christ suffered the Atonement to help you change, to free you from the captivity of sin.” (President Dieter F. Uchtdorf “Are you sleeping through the Restoration,” April 2014 Conference.)

 8)             “Stay completely away from pornography.  Do not allow yourself to view it ever. It has proven to be an addiction which is more than difficult to overcome”. (President Thomas S. Monson, “Priesthood Power”, April 2011 General Conference.)

9)             “Pornography is like a raging storm, destroying individuals and families, utterly ruining what was once wholesome and beautiful.” (President Gordon B. Hinckley, “A Tragic Evil among Us” April 2004.)

 10)          “Pornography, the carrier, is a big business.  It is evil, It is contagious, It is addicting.” (President Thomas S. Monson, “Pornography, The Deadly Carrier,”  Ensign July 2001.)

APPLICATION PROJECT

THE WALK PHASE

I chose my walk phase to be forgiveness. As I worked from week to week to better myself and to be more mindful of others and forgiving of others, I found myself more loving, having more charity towards others in my daily activities and interactions.  As I looked for ways each week to be more Christ like, it helped me with a better understanding of others and gave me patience to not judge too quickly, but to try to be more understanding.  I know I am far from perfect and where I should be in life. It would be wrong of me to ask for forgiveness from my Heavenly Father if I fail to forgive others.
We are command to forgive freely, and as said in the scriptures we are to forgive 7x70.  This does not mean 490, but we are required to forgive always.  In Doctrine and Covenants 64:10 it reads “I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but for you it is required to forgive all men.

Having worked on this project over the past few weeks it has caused me to realize where I need to improve. This is something I have chosen to work on more fully throughout my life from this day forward, and not take things so personally.  As I become more forgiving I am doing that which the Lord has asked each and everyone of us to do.  I am thankful for the knowledge I have been given.  How should we expect to be forgiven if we are not willing to forgive one of God’s children in return.
