Hats and Hits

Busy, busy, busy week.  My living area looks like a Project Runway work room with fabric and trim and costumes in various stages of finish all over the place.  I'm 90% finished with all three and now just working out the final details.   In between, went to an auction, and then hit Goodwill, Vintage Village and Curious Possessions.

It was an unique mix of finds with some great scores at my local Goodwill.

An auction win, this faboosh, vintage, aqua cabinet.  Very 1940-50s, it can be hung on the wall or placed on a table.  

Pretty, Victorian parlor chair is perfect for antique dollies.

An interesting auction win, Mother of Pearl (MOP) handles but it is the bone and bristle toothbrush that is the real queen of this hygiene set.  Antique tooth brushes are often found without the bristles but this one is intact.

From the auction I headed out to Snellville as I had lots of stops to make.  First stop, Vintage Village where I always find treasure.

Needed pearls for a Steam Punk costume for my granddaughter and I found three that will be perfect for her look.

Love antique treenware so I was delighted to find this large, treenware paddle.

Score!!!  Four gorgeous Beelek Christmas plates.  These are as light as can be and are beautifully translucent, the hallmark of Beelek.

Love hats.  Love feathers.  So a hat covered with feathers is a win win for me.  

From Vintage Village I stopped in Curious Possessions.

Sweet red embroidery on white cotton batiste with lace edge.  

A lovely Early American Pressed Glass (EAPG) compote, Stag and deer.  This is a keeper for my EAPG compote collection.

Another lovely EAPG item, Bee hive covered butter dish.  Trying to talk myself out of keeping it.

From Curious Possessions, I moved on to Goodwill.

I hit the mother lode of vintage hats.  Gorgeous, black feathered hat with lots of sass is a Mr. John.

How about this lovely black satin hat with rooster feathers that are rich in iridescence.

And my favorite and I'm keeping it.  A full cloche hat covered in the same iridescent rooster feathers. Be still my hat wearing heart.

Big black bow with gold studs.  Gorgeous.

Marvelous white beret with airy ostrich feathers around it.  Without a doubt, one of the best finds at my local Goodwill in a long time.

It's that time of year when gravy boats are king.  I like to use vintage vases for serving hot breadsticks.

 Another of my auction wins was that great, Indian Chief humidor.  I had forgotten to take a close up photo but it does look good next to the big, brown jug.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  Can't believe that October is nearly over and we will be turning the clocks back. The shadows have gotten taller and the days are shorter, so blessings to you and those you love. Sea Witch

Costumes and cache

It's that time of year when my living area looks like the work room of Project Runway. I have costumes in various stages of creation all over the place.  Three of my grandchildren love this holiday and "place their orders" a month ahead of the date.  So I am working on a Mulan gown, a steam punk warrior lady and a Star Wars scout trooper.  Had to put the fabric and sewing down on Saturday to make a treasure hunt run and then I needed to finish up a few Halloween pieces as well as most of what I brought in to my spaces has long sold.  

I won a box lot, from a summer auction, of vintage Florentine pictures that had long faded away and I thought they would make a great backdrop for Halloween images.  Really like the way they turned out and they are now in my spaces at the Buford Queen of Hearts.

Black cats and tombstones are delightful Halloween decor.

I have a soft spot for lithophanes.  Love the idea of seeing a pretty Geisha at the bottom of the cup.

 I've been eyeing this lovely, antique gravy boat for a few months now and finally gave in and acquired it.  Can't wait to serve gravy this holiday.

Lovely pair of etched crystal salt and pepper shakers with weighted sterling bases.

 Haven't seen one of these in years, pretty late Victorian jewelry box.  This will be in my Victorian space next weekend.

Antique Northwood Opalescent fluted scrolls, EAPG creamer.  Klondyke pattern.  Circa 1901-03

Acquired a pair of engraved fern and leaf EAPG pieces.  Nice spooner.

Then a large EAPG pedestal compote also engraved in the same fern and leaf pattern.

Be still my heart, I so adore antique transferware and this lovely piece is a keeper.

This vintage fez was a summer auction win but I had packed it away and forgot about it.  While digging around for fabric I found it.  Brilliant rhinestones and the original case.

Love, American Style --- the cocktail glass that was popular in the 1960-70s.  Glass on a rope allowed you to free up your drink hand to manage an Hors d'oeuvre plate.  The perfect accessory for your Mad Men costume.

Treasure hunting and a new pal.

Saturday surprised us with another full day of rain so I spent the day dodging drops and treasure hunting. 

 Before the rains hit, we had a lovely fall day on Friday and the top of my favorite tree in my subdivision was changing colors brilliantly.

 Found this lovely Victorian cabinet card album.  Leathers are in great shape and the locking clasp still works.  

 

 It had a few cabinet cards still in it and one tin type.  this is one of the small albums, about 4" x 6' x 2" and in marvelous condition.

 

 Lovely cut crystal vase.  One of the smaller ones, and throws rainbows everywhere.

 Gorgeous, whiteware Ironstone gravy/sauce server was a Vintage Village find.  So nice to find one with the original ironstone ladle.  Still trying to talk myself out of it as I already have two in my personal collection.  Still, this is such a lovely set that it may need to be used this season before I decide to bring it to my Victorian space.

Zipper cut stems, these were a thrift store find too.

 It was a Saturday for finding antique glassware.  Came across this set of juice glasses and small wines at another thrift store.  Lovely hand etched pieces and chip free.

 Six wine stems as well and in fantastic condition.

Just look at the face on this sweet little rabbit.   Vintage Kaiser, West Germany, porcelain brown rabbit figurine, Kaiser was known for their quality. Circa 1970s.   

Why not a SPAM clock for the kitchen?  Actual SPAM can converted into a clock is American kitsch at its best.

 I love vintage and antique bells.  Love the feel, the weight and the different peals they make.  Each has a sound like a fingerprint.  This marvelous shop bell was a Vintage Village find and has that great shop bell sound.

 This early Carnival glass bowl has a gorgeous lustre and even though it has a major break to it, the last owner had the edge smoothed.  I get it, I adore pieces that are perfect as much as the next person, but I welcome into my collections pieces that are not perfect, a break here, a flake there, they still retain their beauty in my eyes.

Now, hands down, the best item I found this weekend was at Vintage Village.  When I saw this life size skeleton and the price tag on it, I had to fight the voices in my head to decide what to do with it first.

Put it in the passenger side of the Honda, I said.  Slide a pair of shades on it and let's do a little driving.  OMG, what fun, people taking photos, kids pointing at it, construction workers waving, I'm getting so much mileage out of this.  In fact, he is now sitting in my office cube making copies, sending texts, and attending conference calls.
