Elder Brandon & Sister Sarah Wilson
HOME!!!!!!

Both Brandon & Sarah have returned with honor after serving excellent missions! It’s so good to have them home. They both reported to the High Council and did a wonderful job and then both spoke in Plano 4th Wards Sacrament meeting a few weeks ago. It’s so good to have them home! They are both busy making plans to get back to school. We love you Wilsons!

I hope everyone is well! We had Zone Conference recently. We got to prepare a zone training session on conversion and commitment. It was both nerve wrecking and rewarding. But we're putting it use.

We have seen some really awesome miracles lately. We street contacted this mom, and she referred us to her 11-year-old son. After just a few lessons, some fellowship by members, and attendance by the boy, his sister, and his dad, the 3 of them are wanting to get baptized! Now we just have to figure out how to get the mom involved too.

I'm enjoying being a Zone Leader. It is both challenging and rewarding, and I know I'm receiving guidance from the Lord and revelation about how to lead effectively.

We recently had to do some biking, in a monsoon, uphill for about 2 miles. I was a chubby kid on a bike with water in my shoes, a bloody elbow from a slip, and rain going horizontally up my nose. Pretty miserable? No! All I could think of while biking uphill was that I had a great calling! My comps and I even started singing hymns! We could feel the spirit so strongly that no weather or challenges or anything could separate us from the Lord's work.

I testify that this church is true and the work that we are doing is truly considered "the Lord's errand." I share this with you in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Elder Aviel Heridia

Our sweet Elder Heridia is home on a medical leave recovering from a bus accident on his mission. Please keep him in your prayers.

привет and Happy Thanksgiving!! I just love this time of year because you focus on loving others, including them, and everyone is full of gratitude! Then, it is perfect timing because then the Christmas spirit starts as Thanksgiving ends and everyone begins to turn more to Christ and serving others. I hope all y’all have been enlisted in doing the 25 days of Christmas. If not, go look it up and begin!! Mission life in Russia is so incredible and humbling. The work is going so very well. As most of y’all know, we still have the law that we need to abide by so there are many more restrictions, but despite this, it is incredible to see the hand of the Lord here in Russia. Miracles are happening every day. Well, as of November 24, I will hit my 6 month mark. I can't even believe it. I have developed a great love for this not only this gospel and my Savior, but also for the incredible people of Russia. They have taught me so much and have been such an incredible example to me. Despite the thoughts before the mission, we are not doing much volunteer work because we are too busy with finding (contacting) and teaching lessons. This is not something that I will complain about at all. We have been so blessed in the work. It is so very true that the Lord loves and cares about each and everyone of us no matter who we are, where we are, or what we've done. His love is unconditional. As the Christmas season rolls around and as we focus more on our Savior, I would like to challenge yall to turn outward and serve others. I promise as you look to serve others your love for them will grow and the joy of the Christmas spirit will grow in your families and homes more than you have ever experienced before. It will fill your life with light that will then be shared with others. 1Nephi 19:6- For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called, wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Well, turns out that I'm getting transferred. I didn't see it coming but I know it's the hand of the Lord guiding me where I need to go. I'm going to miss all the members [in Lynchburg] so much. I'm so thankful for letting me serve them, especially Julia. I've never experienced more happiness in my life than watching her come closer to Christ. She did it all by herself, I was lucky to come along the ride. The Lord truly does do His own work. I wish for the best for her and all the members as I leave them as I move onto my next area.

Changes happen all throughout our life. Whether it's through moving, death, or pain, we cannot avoid change in this life. That's why we must have faith. Next time you're in pain, don't ask yourself if you have enough faith to be healed. Do you have enough faith not to be healed? Do you have enough faith and trust in the Lord to accept your challenges?

Faith is the basic unit for success, it leads to so many positive outcomes. Faith leads to repentance, commitment to follow the commandments, blessings, trust in the Lord, knowledge, and salvation. How do we gain such an important substance for survival? Preach my Gospel has a wonderful formula for growing and cultivating faith.

"Your faith will increase through diligent study, prayer, dedicated service, and obedience to the promptings of the Holy Ghost and the commandments. Your faith in Jesus Christ grows as you become better acquainted with Him and His teachings. As you explore the scriptures and search them, you learn of His ways, His love for all people, and His commandments."

I know it's bread and butter, but it's easily overlooked. Don't overlook the small things. If you are good in the small things, you'll be fine when the big things come. Love, Elder Harris

Here is an excerpt from one of her last emails dated Nov 13th before leaving the Provo MTC:
So this Tuesday for devotional, they were stricter with security, our dress and for choir making sure we were all tightly seated...which meant an Apostle was coming to speak to us. President Russel M. Nelson of the quorum of the Twelve and his wife came and it was pretty cool, they spoke a lot about making the most of our mission, but I really liked what he said about measuring your success on a mission, something like "the measure of your success won't come within your mission or even the months following, but in years to come when the children and the grandchildren of your converts are making those sacred covenants of baptism and in the Temple".

I'll also leave you with some words from the 1st counselor of our branch here, Brother Tuttle:
"God will hasten his work, Satan cannot stop it. He could not stop it in biblical times, or while Joseph Smith was restoring the church, and especially not now. Our only job is to have faith in Jesus Christ, because having faith in Him means being called to action." (again I'm paraphrasing). but I just both these talks, it seems like this week was a bunch of motivational inspiration from everyone, getting me ready to get out into da big city.

August/September 2017

Elder Brandon Wilson
Philippines Taclobon Mission

Over the course of the past few
years, I have often wandered what the most important quality of a missionary
is. Is it the skill of listening? Perhaps, the ability to ask inspired
questions. Maybe it is even the ability to work hard. Through pondering on
these things, I have come to the conclusion that the most important quality
that a missionary can hope to obtain is the gift of Charity.

1 Corinthians 13 1-3
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Charity is the all-encompassing gift, as it responds
with all of the following and much more. If we have charity, we will not be
forced to be obedient, we will want to be, because we love the lord. If we are
truly charitable, we will love our fellow brothers and sisters, and will earnestly
plead and petition the lord for his help. Because even if we do all the things
we have, and we do not have charity, it will profiteth us NOTHING. Charity is
the pure love of Christ, as is the most important attribute that any missionary
can hope to obtain, because the greatest of all things is Charity.

I love the mission, and more than that, I love my Savior Jesus Christ. I love what the mission has done to those around me. I was looking in the mirror earlier today and saw myself, clean shaven, clean hair cut, and remembered myself saying in the MTC "I will never like the look of a missionary" but I have grown to love it :) Love you all, and am excited to be in the best place in the world, serving the lord :)

LOVE,
Elder Wilson

There are many mixed emotions as my time serving the Lord as a Full-time Missionary is coming to an end. From the start to the end, I have been focusing on one thing. The love of Christ.

As a missionary goes into the mission field, this becomes a reality, not just a word to be said, or a lesson to be taught. But something to be felt to understand and to obtain.

There is something different about serving a Mission, something changes within you as you seek to have the eyes of Heavenly Father. To see his children as He sees them. To love them as He loves them .

This pursuit leads to the happiness in missionary work. Love is what leads the work of salvation every day. Love for those you meet and those who you do not. When they ignore you, you still end up loving them, because you know that they are loved above.

Missionary work is truly Missionary Love.

If we can learn to love those around us, love those who hate us, just really LOVE, then we find the secret to eternal happiness.

Pretty nice week this week! Got to go on exchanges with the Zone Leaders and it was pretty noice. Since my last blog, I was assigned new responsibilities. I'm now a District Leader and a trainer. My new comp is Elder Palmer, from Pencil Bluff, Arkansas. He's SUPER Mormon! Like 6th generation with 8 brothers and sisters that have all been on missions! He's also SUPER white (because I'm not...I'm an honorary Mexican), but he's ready to learn the language and listen to the SPIRIT!

Recently, we learned a lot and that's always good! We were really focusing on talking to everyone and we saw tons of miracles because of it. When we say everyone we mean like everyone! It's great and once you get over the initial fear of going up to random people and talking to them about Jesus it's a lot of fun, too!

Elder Palmer (and I) now better understand that you have to just be grateful for what you do have and make plans to improve. We are definitely grateful, because one of our investigators with a baptismal date who has never been to church since I've been here made it to church with her LA husband! It was great!

Hope all is well in the Plano 4th Ward! Adios, amigos! Elder Jones

So all of this is goin on being brought upon 2 missionaries. Two crazy 19 year old missionaries who haven’t been through life, only through high school and the MTC. But somehow, I don’t know HOW, we are helping them progress and grow in their spiritual strength! The Lord really knows what he’s doing because I sure as heck know that I wouldn’t send me to council sad wives of Guatemala.

So yeah, that’s kind of what’s going on.........BLEH Keep on praying! We need all the help we can get. It’s kinda weird, 3 months back I was out dating, playing Counter Strike, and Working in my room almost all day. Now I’m hiking mountains trying to help broken families. OH WELL!

These last couple weeks in Russia have been incredible. I have learned so much and grown in so many ways. We recently had the baptism of a little 11 year old girl who's mom is inactive but grandma is an active member. It was so amazing to see her testimony and love for the gospel grow. She requested that we had a Texas party after so that's what we did. We cooked up some Texas chili, corn bread, cobbler and had a fun time line dancing and barrel racing! I am so greatful for this opportunity to serve. I know the Lord's hand is in everything, and He is helping us each and every day. All we need to do is pray and watch for the tender mercies that occur with humble gratitude. I love all yall! Happy new school year!

Elder Ethan Harris
West Virginia Charleston Mission

Elder Harris entered the MTC on July 5 and seemed to truly enjoy his three weeks there. . With many opportunities to teach right away, he had a great experience and was eager to reach West Virginia to meet those searching in his area.  His first assignment is in Lynchburg, Virginia.  He's been in Lynchburg a little over a month now and is having some great opportunities.

He says, "Well, I did it brothers and sisters.  I'm finally here!  It's been a blast since I got here, It rains all the time."

"So today, I found out where I was going.  So there's 58 missionaries awaiting a transfer and we are all anxious.  I really wanted Pembroke because I heard it was gorgeous. So, when my name was called, it went like this, " Elder Harris, You've been called to serve with Elder Wheeler in the Lynchburg Main mission.  Hooray... Yep Liberty University. Baptist BYU. it takes all day to get there so I slept in the car."

"Wow, life's been going good over here in Lynchburg.  It's tough but its supposed to be."

"Work is good, work is fun, work pays off.  This week, I've been devoted to the work as much as I could."

A quote he wanted to share from Joseph Smith:  "Happiness is the object and design of our existence; and will be the end thereof, if we pursue the path that leads to it; and this path is virtue, uprightness, faithfulness, holiness, and keeping all the commandments of God."

Sister Katee Perez
China Hong Kong Mission

Katee Perez has been called to serve in the China Hong Kong Mission, she reports to the Provo MTC September 27th, 2017.  She is beyond excited to serve and share her love for the gospel, especially in China where she has always wanted to travel to and now has to opportunity to live there and learn the Cantonese language.

She is the 4th sibling of the Perez family to decide to serve a full-time mission, as her 3 older brothers have previously served in Puerto Rico, Peru and the Philippines. Since our name is Perez which starts with the letter ‘P’, we have a small joke in the family that Katee is the only one who has broken the pattern of all of the kids serving missions in countries also starting with the letter ‘P’, but we are happy and proud of her regardless.

Before receiving her call, Katee was studying Biomedical Engineering at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and will continue her studies there once she returns in 2019. She graduated high school at the American School of Doha back in June 2016, and has been attending the U for three semesters since and has loved every moment.

As her peers are currently starting the fall semester once again she wishes she could be there amongst them, but knows the importance of her decision and is willing to make this sacrifice to leave behind family and friends and dedicate her time to loving and serving the people in Hong Kong.

Elder Brandon WilsonPhilippines Taclobon Mission Sept 2017

A couple of months ago, I received a transfer into the Mission Office.  It’s been quite a change, but I have enjoyed the opportunity to serve the other missionaries in the mission.  We do have time to still do some missionary work each day, just not full time.  It’s difference but where ever the Lord needs me is where I want to serve.
I love the beloved hymn of the church, Come, Follow Me.
“Come, follow me,” The Savior said
Then let us in his footsteps tread,
For thus alone can we be one
With God’s own loved, begotten Son

Therefore, let us follow the Saviors request to Come Follow Him. Sincerely, Elder Wilson

Sister Sarah Wilson Brazil Curitiba Mission

There are many things I am blessed with on the Mission. First of all is to see the miracles that happen as I see the hand of God working in the lives of those around me. That is the biggest miracles, to see, to be the one who helps those come to know their Savior and the sacrifice he made for them, that then intern changes their lives. The sweetest thing is to know that lives have been changed, not just now but the generations to come. All will be blessed from one person in the family having the desire, the yearning. For more. There is so much more that the Lord can offer than the World. The world gives us happiness for a short time but it is only the Lord who gives us happiness unending. That is the message. Happiness Unending. It never ends. Eternal. This can only be found through the power of the Priesthood, which can only be found as those who are searching take a risk. Open their hearts. And let the Savior in.

Elder Nick Jones
Nevada Reno Spanish Speaking

Elder Nick was recently transferred from Carson City/Lake Tahoe/Gardnerville to an all-Spanish area in Sparks, NV. He is so busy, doing as many as 5 lessons a day! In his words....One of my old less actives that I was teaching in Gardnerville went to the Reno Temple to receive her endowments, and I received permission to go with her and another missionary that taught her, and it was sick! She had an incredible experience and thanked me profusely for helping her get there. It was a wonderful reminder to me that I am out here doing the Lord's work, bring happiness and peace to all who need it. I love this work! Speaking of, we set another investigator with a baptismal date this week. His name is Carlos, and he is a roommate of a recent convert. Before our lesson had even started in which we had planned to set him with a date, he asked what all he needed to do to be baptised! So that was easy! But of course there must be opposition in all things, and this week it manifested itself in that Victor and Zulma (a son and mother who want to be baptized together) will have to put off their baptism for a little bit. But Zulma apparently had an amazing dream recently in which there was a tree that was not growing. She was watering it and trying to help it in any way she could but nothing was working. Then, she said, we (the missionaries) came in and watered the tree, and it began to grow. She said that she believes that we are feeding her the truth so she can grow her faith. Sounds a lot like Alma 32 huh?! So they are prepared and will be baptised soon.

Elder Aviel Heredia
Guatemala

I am SO excited to get to Guatemala. First I land in Atlanta. After that I’ll be on my way to Guatemala City. After I land there i ride in a small plane to a small airstrip in Qeutzaltenango. At that point, I’ll meet my new companion and head to the shelter I’ll be living in and go to bed. If you have any spare time I suggest using the new google earth to view the landscape of it. It really is insane how many volcanoes surround the area!(like 4-5) I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I end up finding myself in some HEATED situations! ;D HAHAHAHAHAHA But yeah, ill be fine! :D Just as long as i don't do anything stupid while hiking up mountains or something. (some of the mountains are volcanoes.....) I was going to write a big email but as I was writing with 3 other elders alone in the room until I heard a hello. And well, it was President Uchtdorf standing in the doorway. He came in, shook all our hands, talked to us about our missions, then wanted to get a picture with us. He asked for my email, and said he will send it to us later. It's A MIRACLE to see him and it was absolutely indescribable to be alone with him in a room. No guards, just a 70 to take our picture. He wished us well walked off and soon afterwards was swarmed by missionaries.
It's funny because there were a ton of missionaries that were yelling like "Oh my gosh I saw Uchtdorf!" And I'm like yeah right - "HAH THATS CUTE" Its great to be here but I DONT LIKE BEING IN A SMALL ROOM ALL DAY! I really look forward to being in Guatemala and being amongst the natives.
With much love, Elder Heredia

I hope everything is going well with all yall. Things are so great and I just love love love it here... and no, nobody is paying me to say that! It's seriously the best here!

Our Branch President has this thing called the "Hawaii Fund." Any time we say "guys" or "dude" or "like" or anything like that, we have to pay him $10 which funds a trip for him and his wife to go to Hawaii! I'm SO lucky because he allows Y’all! We had testimony meeting and I went to bear my testimony and as president Clark was closing he called me out saying something about how I'm his favorite because I used the word "yall." I turned to my comp and asked if I said it a lot. Then everyone around me said something sassy, "like only about 25 times!!" I got a hard time for the rest of the day and everyone made fun of me saying yall. One elder calls me "Sister Cran-YAWLLL." hahah it's pretty funny.

This week was so so spiritual. I can't even tell you how grateful I am to be here and learning so much about the language, but most importantly Christ our Savior. One of my favorite scriptures of the week is Ether 12:27. It talks about showing unto Christ your weaknesses and He will make you strong. I feel like this is so applicable to me now as I am learning Russian, and I can't do it without His help. We discussed that we need to humble ourselves because we are not learning this language for ourselves or to look "cool" when we get back. We are learning this language so that we can be an instrument in the Lord's hands to bring His children unto Him, so that they might be able to receive the fullness of His gospel.

The MTC is so good and I love it so much! I have the best Zone, District, and Branch Presidency that I could even ask for. I have been blessed beyond belief and am so grateful. The language is coming along so well and I attribute it all to the Lord's help for I couldn't do this without his help.  Thank you for the emails, letters, and continual support.  I love all yall and hope yall have an awesome week!

Preaching Fourth February/March 2017

Image

Elder Brandon Wilson
Philippines Taclobon Mission Sept 2017
So life in the Philippines is awesome. I love the mission, and do not know what I would do If I was not here. The mission is truly a preparation time for the remainder of your life, and I am glad to be doing the preparation here in the Philippines Tacloban Mission,. Anyways, I am now here in Carigara, and am loving it! I would like to share something that I learned about from my last area. You see, I just came from Palo Leyte, Tacloban Zone. this is a area in which I was there for a period of 12 weeks. In this area, we did lots of finding, lots of teaching, but in essence, my companion and I got 0 Baptisms. Although this is something that may be disappointing (or even normal) for some missionaries, it was something that I was expecting. You see, We whitewashed (both missionaries get transferred) into that area. Fast forward to today. Today, one of the areas we found in all the time is now one of the most progressing areas in that area. Some of the people we found have both been baptized and have gone to church. Although I am not there to see these miracles take place, I am grateful to hear that they have happened. Now, the reason I share this is for a simple fact. We do not know the results from our labors. We do not know how plentiful the harvest will be at the end. Many of us (if not all of us) would love to see the results of what we do. But unfortunately, we do not often see the results of what we do. Also, we can count the seeds in a apple, but you can not count the apples from those seeds. Therefore, let us not worry about how many seeds we have, but how much of a influence we will have for good. Brothers and Sisters, Many of you who may read this may wonder if a mission is right for you. Many of you may have fears. But I am here to testify that fears will be overcome, and the mission will help define you for the rest of your life. Therefore, as my last remark will say, let the mission go through you, do not just go through a mission. Many missionaries may just go on a mission as if it is something that needs to be done. Then, when they are done with the mission, they will move on, almost as if the mission is a task to be accomplished, a place to go. In  reality, the mission needs to go through and change you. If you just go on a mission and do not change, then your mission will not have done its most important goal, that is to help you become who your heavenly Father needs you to be. Not just for your mission, but what he needs you to be for your entire life. Therefore, Let the mission go through you, do not just go through a mission. Love you all! Elder Wilson ^_^

Sister Sarah Wilson

I have come to realize the best thing in the world, is serving The Lord. There is no other things quite like being so tired and knowing that you became this way from the day using all your forces to serve, to teach and to find those who are searching for the truth. I am so blessed for every moment I am serving in Brasil, for every day i have to grow to learn for more the will of the Lord. That is truly where you find the happiness, where you find peace, knowing the Lord accepts your work and walks by your side in every moment. There is so much to be found. mainly about yourself as you come to search to become more like the savior, to truly see who he molding you to be. That is the success that is found, seeing how you are changing in the hands of the Master. When you give it all, every moment every thought, He turns you into the best, turns you to become like Him. The Mission is a time for no regrets, and a time to make use of the seconds serving the Lord.

Elder Nick Jones
Nevada Reno Spanish Mission 2018
Last week we were pretty low on our allotted miles for the month, so we biked home from South Carson City back to Gardnerville. It was pretty fun, and I think it was very good to help work off all the food I ate at dinner. Also something pretty weird happened on the ride. We were like half a mile from our house, and right before we rounded a corner, we heard some crazy loud screaming. So we get around the corner and see this lady leaned up against the her door screaming that she's having a heart attack. So we use our phone to call 9-11 and the operator is like, "Chill, that lady just has anxiety, she's fine. We have some people already on the way." We were like uhhhh. So then while we wait for the "people" to show up, we just listen to this lady start screaming about some totally random stuff, having nothing to do with a heart attack lol. She's screaming about her dog, and then her husband who left her, and how she is going to sue the Lutheran church down the street because they didn't call the cops for her. Then eventually a cop and ambulance show up and we started talking with another by-stander who lived nearby who came over because of all the noise. We got his number and he said he might be interested in meeting with us! Cool! Anyway yeah that was a weird night.
In other news, we found two really great new investigators in South Lake Tahoe. One of them is a very average man, like seriously the most average person you could ever meet. Never really gotten into a religion before, but says he would like to. When we taught him and gave him a Book of Mormon, he acted like it was the most exciting moment of his life, so that's sweet!
As you can tell from this photo, we’ve had a lot of rain and a lot of snow.  Kind of makes me miss Texas Winters.

Words or Wisdom from Brother Wilson

Image

As I sit in this chair asked to write a message regarding the missionary activities of Elder & Sister Wilson.  I understand it is repeated throughout the Church each and every day and week as the servants of the Lord under the Direction of the Father go forth to Serve and Love his children.

That being said this message is not about the Wilson missionaries. It is about the Love of the Father for his children.  The religion if you want to call it that of the Father is Love.  Christ in his mortal life, that has been recorded and revealed is a life of Love and Service.

Challenges and difficulties come to all - yes even missionaries.  It is through these challenges/experiences we grow and learn.  We are here on this earth at this time to learn, grow and be the shining light in a world of darkness.  These are experiences we could not had had as spirit children.

The key to this survival of the challenges and difficulties is from a Valid Testimony of Jesus Christ.  D&C 46:13-14 (When the Wind Blows - BYUI 1980). When the problems of world blow and beat at us (yes missionary service can be hard at times).  It is your Testimony of Jesus Christ that will keep you safe and secure.

1 Corinthians 12:3 - The Holy Ghost is required So these and all missionaries learn and teach these principles/keys
1.  Study
2.  Ask - communicate / listen - Prayer
3.  Do it - John 17:3
4.  Repeat

Reminder our very survival is Dependent on this Testimony.

From President David O McKay
(October General Conference Address - 1965)
My faith in the ultimate triumph of the gospel of Jesus Christ assures me that a spiritual awakening must come. It will come through the acceptance of Jesus Christ and
obedience to His gospel and in no other way completely. I believe there never was a time in the history of the world when there was such a need for a united, determined stand to uphold Christ and the restoration of the gospel through the Prophet Joseph Smith as there is today.

God bless you here assembled that we may sense as never before the efficacy of the
restored gospel and that we hold as a duty our application of spiritual traits in our daily
association with one another in home, in business, and in society, I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

This 'Spiritual Awakening' is happening now and we are apart of it. To all of our missionaries - Love the people you work with and serve. We as members have more information/revelation to understand the issues/problems we are facing now - it all boils down to the Love of the Father to his children. For truly if we all understood the divine nature of man and the brotherhood of each other - the conflicts we are currently experiencing would very minuscule.
We are all Family and we Love our family.

Brother Wilson
