PSERENDIPITY

I was really worried about Aidan and the move. We moved from Jackson, to Tim’s house, to our new house in a matter of weeks and it was rough on me, so I can only imagine the impact on a kid. But, he hung in there even though he had to sleep on the couch for a while. In front of a 52 inch flat screen. With the Wii. Such a trooper, he is.

So, by way of an update, here’s a couple Aidan shots. You’re welcome.

As you can see, they’re best buds. I have GOT to tell you how this dog clowns the school bus. Hilarity.

He’s still a silly little smart kid. Loves soccer & baseball, loves life. Every now and then he misses his friends in Jackson, but I do believe he’s going to like Memphis just fine. 🙂

(I know, you can’t tell from the looks of things round here.) So, while The Dip transitions, I’ll be taking a blog break and writing a few posts for you guys for when I return at my new digs.

I was really kinda miffed at y’all for not helping me out with the chore post, then I got a couple emails that comments weren’t posting.  Good, long, comments.  Boo hiss!  So, first question, have you had this problem? If you want to say YES!, but you can’t comment, can you send me an email please? I’m thinking about just getting my own domain, but I’m not sure if I want to do alladat.  Will that solve the comment problem? Has anyone else had the comment problem? Anybody wanna volunteer to figure all that out for me? Can I get a yes, please? I mean “Yes, please!”

Oh, I’m thinking I need a fresh look for the blog.  You know, something cute…and no, this ain’t it.  I was just toying around and now I’m too tired to figure out how to change it back. So, there you go. Anybody want to redesign the blog for me? What is that I hear? Do I hear a “Yes, please!”

If you have a child that has ever watched Barney, go ahead and hit that next line.  You know you know it!

Today’s post (or maybe this week’s post) is all about chores!  As you know, we’ve recently moved into a new house.  Well, this house is considerably larger than the digs we just left, and there are now four of us settling in.  The task now is to assign the chores.  Yay me.  I’m here most of the time and let me tell you, I’m about to SPAZZ OUT if I have to pick up one more thing that somebody left somewhere.  I promise. So, blogland, I need your help!

We have an 18 year old that goes to school and works, and a 7 year old that…well, does 7 year old stuff. They both have their own rooms, they share a bathroom upstairs, and they share a den upstairs.  Then, of course, there’s a kitchen and a living room that we all use. Now that you have the lay of the land, what do you think would be a proper division, both agewise and timewise, of the household duties?  When you were growing up, going to school and working, what were your chores? If you have a 7 year old, what are theirs?

Last weekend, I was supposed to be whooping it up with my line sisters at the New Edition Concert in Jackson.  See, when I heard New Edition was coming, it was a no brainer. The first people I thought about in the world to go with were my line sisters.  So, you’d think that when I said I couldn’t go, as the coordinator, they’d at least pretend like they might consider not still being overjoyed about going. Hmph. Instead, those losers got all dressed up and went out on the town without me.  And sent me pictures.  How do I love them? Let me count the ways….

Now that that’s out of the way, lemme tell you why I couldn’t go.  Yay!

Remember this crib?  Well we closed last Tuesday, and Friday was move in day!!!  Woot Woot!!  In addition to it being move in day, we had family coming in from Oklahoma to celebrate the 4th of July.  So, after months of house hunting and praying, our first night in our new home was filled with family in every bedroom, kids laughing and playing, and a big family dinner on Saturday.  Seriously.  What could be better than that?

Before moving stuff in, we got the kitchen, living room, and the master bedroom painted.  I’m by no means finished decorating starting to decorate, but when I get the kitchen all cleaned up, I’ll take some photos so you can see the work in progress. I was lamenting the paint color I chose for the kitchen, but it turns out it looks pretty good. It’s um…let’s just say vibrant.

Anyway, what have you guys been doing? How was your 4th?

Have you ever dreamed a dream? Well, fellow blogger/writer/filmmaker Monica Mingo dreamed of making movies. And she did it BIG! Along with Terrell Suggs (yes, the Baltimore Raven Defensive Player of the Year Terrell Suggs), Monica wrote and directed The Coalition.

Lemme tell you, the movie is THE HOTNESS and just premiered at the American Black Film Festival in Miami to raving audiences. In case you can’t play the trailer, here’s a short synopsis of the movie:

The bad boys club is really not all that bad. Young, rich and handsome…the boys know how to have a good time. They love women, fast cars and doing whatever they want to do. There comes a time in life, however, when karma is helped along. When it’s done by a group of scorned women…it can prove to be devastating.

A long time ago, when Fantasia had that monstrosity of a reality show, I was watching it. But only for a few minutes.  In those few minutes, she went to meet with an image consultant and a person who was going to help with her career.  The image consultant was showing her how to walk the red carpet and look more like a star.  The music person was going to actually give her a little routine to enhance her performance.  Cool.

So, Fantasia says that she just wants to be “her”. “Her” thing was to just go out there and sing and take her shoes off and whatever else moved her when she sang the way that only she could.  Look at her now.

Today, I’m sitting here getting some things together and this show “Empire Girls” is on.  One of the young ladies wants to be a television personality, but people keep telling her that she needs to tone down her accent.  But, she just wants to be “her.” And all her friends tell her that she should just be “her.” She is latina, hear her accent roar! So, she goes to this audition and she’s doing great, but the person responsible for hiring says that she needs to tone down her accent.  Now, she gets it.

If Fantasia had taken the man’s advice, perhaps the American Idol travesty would not have occurred.  If this girl works on her accent, perhaps she can book more jobs.

Yesterday, I went to court.  I’ve been doing this for 13 years, but I went looking for guidance. I recognize the difference between being a better Pserendipity for progess and losing myself and becoming different.  It’s not even a thin line.  At what point do you get so big or smart or good that you can’t take advice? I’ve known plenty of people that couldn’t hear anything. They knew it all, and everything that you could tell them, they knew better.  For the most part, they’re still in the same place they were when I left them. If you can’t learn, you can’t progress.
