Pink Floyd: Brussels 1972 (VG Aud) FLAC

341115
art but not the actual art included
December 5, 1972 - Vorst Nationaal, Brussels, Belgium

This is a speed corrected version of PF-OPUS-5-Vorst-Nationaal-Brussels-1972-12-05. No other processing has been done. The 1st set ran 25 cents sharp. The 2nd set ran 106 cents flat.
This is speculation but the speed of the 2nd set being almost a half step off along with notes that speak of mastering work suggest this was likely already processed with speed correction. A little inaccurately for the 1st set and inaccurate plus a whole key off for the 2nd set. The notes in question:
"So here is my copy of that concert, taken from a CD-ROM digitalised and remastered from the original tape by its maker in 1999." "SOUNDSCAPE mastering 1999"

I believe the lineage would now be something like: Uher Report Stereo tape recorder and AKG microphones -> CD-ROM -> SOUNDSCAPE mastering -> Speed correction with Serato in ProtoolsHD -> FLAC (level 8 with internal checksums and tags)

Here are the original notes from "PF-OPUS-5-Vorst-Nationaal-Brussels-1972-12-05":
Over a decade ago I met a man who sold me a bootleg of (The) Dark Side Of The Moon, recorded by him on the 5th of December 1972 in Vorst Nationaal ñ Forest National Brussels.
Most Pink Floyd biographies have it wrong when they state that Pink Floyd gave two shows in - what they call Vorst Nationaal Sportpaleis Brussels- on the fifth and the sixth as these are *two* separate halls, Vorst Nationaal is in Brussels and Sportpaleis is in Antwerp.
There is also confusion about the ROIOs of this show or shows, even on Yeeshkul. It already starts with the Cucamonga radio show that broadcast two tracks of this concert, coming from the same man who sold me the CD six years earlier.
So once and for all, Pink Floyd gigged in Brussels on the fifth in Vorst Nationaal / Forest National and the day later in Antwerp at the Sportpaleis, there is no such concert hall as Vorst Nationaal Sportpaleis (and there never will be).

Now about the tape (taken from the bootlegger aka OPUS 5)
QUOTE: The original recording was made with a Uher Report Stereo tape recorder and AKG microphones. I sold dozens of these tapes (4-track and 9.5 cm / sec stereo) via the pub circuit in Mechelen ("Verloren Zoon", "Golem"). I refused to deliver on compact cassette because the quality was too bad in those days. However, I know that someone in Antwerp copied my tape on compact cassettes and sold these as well although they were poor in quality.
The boss of the Golem pub told me one day that an Englishman had bought one of my tapes to press them on vinyl. END QUOTE

I've never came across this vinyl version, but I do know that the concert had been circulating on compact cassette in the days when the internet didn't exist.
So here is my copy of that concert, taken from a CD-ROM digitalised and remastered from the original tape by its maker in 1999.

Warning/Disclaimer: This recording should not be confused with the series labelled "The Dan Lampinski Tapes Volume XX". This recording represents part of Dan's earliest efforts to capture the live concert experience for posterity, hence the series name "Dan Lampinski - The Early Years Volume XX". Given the very consistent high quality of Dan's later work, it would have been easy to blow off these recordings and consign them to the dustbin of history, but there are quite a few captures in the series that are well worth circulating, if not for their rarity, but for the obsessive collector types (we know who we are) that want every single second of any recordings of their favourite musicians. So please, just accept these recordings for what they are, another part of the tapestry we weave when we collect and share such things.
Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.
Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.
Always remember - the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you.

OU Notes: The most anticipated set of Coachella 2006 was undoubtedly Tools reemergence on the second night, but the dark horse set of the weekend has to go to Daft Punk. Anyone familiar with the French House music DJ/Production duo would have never ruled them out, but the surprise comes from their cross-over appeal, and that most probably derives from the nature of the set itself.
Dropping the turntables and bringing out a full live show, along with the best stage design/lighting set-up of the weekend, their jaw dropping performance left Madonna looking all the more aged and stale by the time her troupe took to the same stage the next evening.
Introduced by the theme from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", the black curtain pulls back to reveal a pulsating pyramid structure which house our two robo-protagonists, Thomas Bangalter, and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, for the next 80 minutes. Dressed in leather flight suits topped with gleaming robot-like headgear, the camera shy duo are flanked by a hexagonal grid of lights and a huge video screen backdrop. Together the two sample and mash and grind their greatest hits alongside some fairly new material. The result is a technologic smorgasboard of image and color, beats and phrases, sights and sounds.
And as if the senses aren't overloaded enough, the stage is extended by large screens, and continues outside of the tent on both sides with screens and P.A. reenforcement. Even from the back of the tent the effect feels like your being swallowed, emersed in a sea of brilliantly blinding color, as wave after wave of pulsating beats crash at your ears. A stark contrast from the minimal beats and tight choreography of Kraftwerks 2004 appearance, Daft Punk lays it down, layering distorted guitar riffs, acid washed big beats, and twisted vocoded vocals until the result is some mutated form of sonic image bearing little resemblance to its commercially available counterpart.
In their 1st stateside appearance in 8 years, Daft Punk have come full circle, but still chart a course for territory unknown, blazing a trail since their inception in 1994 through the electronic music scene, blending styles and bending between them, from House to Acid to Pop and back again. A hell-bent psychedelic rollercoaster firmly planted on the rails of electronic music.
This show was top-notch! Lets hope we hear more from them this year as they head out for the European festival circuit this summer.
Sound is superb - little or no crowd noise.

Joy Division: Live and Studio 1978-80 (FLAC)

Joivisi
This boot "Closer to the Unknown" is basically a reissue of Remains. It's got one additional song (Dead Souls track 24) which is said to be from "Pennine Sound Studios, Oldham 3/80", but it's in fact the regular studio version from Cargo October / November 1979
The disc has the words "NON OMNIS MORIAR", which apparently means "Not all of me shall die" in Latin.

Program notes: Jazz musicians in the know have long admired pianist and vocalist Shirley Horn. Her sensitive and relaxed playing style and unique vocals earned her comparisons to jazz greats such as Count Basie and Nat King Cole.
Born May 1, 1934, in Washington, D.C., Horn began playing the piano at age 4. She began her career as a vocalist at 17, when she was playing piano at a local restaurant and audience members requested that she sing a few songs. She studied composition at Howard University at age 12 and later entered a special music-studies class there. Horn was offered a scholarship to Juilliard, but had to decline due to financial hardship. By age 20, she had formed her first jazz trio.
In 1960, Miles Davis was so impressed with Horn's debut recording, Embers and Ashes, that he invited her to come to New York City and open for him at the Village Vanguard. She recorded three albums for Mercury and ABC/Paramount, and received much encouragement from fellow artists such as Davis and Quincy Jones. But by the mid-1960s, Horn was disenchanted with the direction of popular music and took a hiatus from her career, devoting time to raising her family in the D.C. area.
In the 1980s, Shirley Horn began the second act of her career: She signed with the Verve label in 1987 and recorded a series of breakthrough albums, including I Remember Miles, which won a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 1999. During the latter part of her career, Horn kept the same rhythm section for nearly 25 years: bassist Charles Ables and drummer Steve Williams.
Over the course of her career, Horn received many awards and honors, including eight other Grammy nominations, and performed at the White House for several U.S. presidents. Horn was awarded an honorary Doctor of Music degree from the Berklee College of Music in 2002, and was made a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master in 2005.
Shirley Horn died of complications from a stroke on Oct. 20, 2005.
In this Piano Jazz session recorded in 1989, Horn brings her unmistakable contralto, as well as her unique accompaniment to a set of standards including "But Beautiful," "It Never Entered My Mind" and "For All We Know."
Originally recorded July 11, 1989. Originally broadcast Jan. 13, 1990.

The foundation of all the footage (and audio) was taken from 9/20. Additional shots are from the 9/21, 10/12 and 10/13 shows and all are from tapehead2's HD master files.
Thanks to all those who shared their footage for this project. Thanks once again to the HVR team, MOB for the appropriate EQ work and Big Ed for checking and correcting, and for the quick turn around. Thanks to Chris for the artwork, you always have the coolest sigs on the forum. Thanks to Rick B. for this and 30+ years of recording shows in Chicago.
But the biggest thanks of all go to my new friend tapehead2 (TH2) for shooting these shows so brilliantly. After posting the initial clips to YouTube I contacted TH2 to see if a multi-camera edit was ever considered. The response was that TH2 wished for the shows to be shared "as is". I decided to cut together a few songs just to show TH2 the possibilities and after watching them on YouTube agreed to send me the master HD footage. The 9/20 and 9/21 shows cut together beautifully, but I still wished that we had a few more shots covered. Since TH2 had tickets to the Nassau Coliseum shows and was planning on shooting them as well I offered some camera suggestions, a lot of them in fact, to get some of the shots I still wanted. The dude abides. So thanks to TH2 for the ultimate sacrifice of not being able to enjoy these shows like the rest of us have. That's a hefty price, especially when considering that Pink Floyd isn't on the top of TH2's favorites list. Perhaps inspired by being embraced by the PF "communities" has changed that? Also a big thanks to Rick Julian for his patience and help with creating the Blu-ray version. And finally a thanks to Roger for putting on such a kick ass show.
This was great fun and a labor of love. The biggest challenge was not in the synching up of all the various shows. Since this is all run to a precise click track synchronization was fairly easy. The challenge was finding matching choreography from shot to shot while at the same time retaining my shot preference and length as well. I'm sure you'll find a few transitions that reveal such continuity blunders, but I'll bet that there's even more that you don't catch. It's amazing how much did actually work. It's all part of the fun and we hope you enjoy the product of our collaboration.
Originally released on Veteran's Day (November 11, 2010) and dedicated to all fallen loved ones.
Enjoy!

Savoy Brown: 2 Shows 1970 (Soundboard) 1974 (VG Aud) FLAC

postere
New York, Madison Square Garden
March 13, 1974
Lineage: Larry Clark's tape>1st generation Maxell XL II cassette (azimuth adjusted, speed checked>CD-R>EACDIME>U!
Sound quality is 4 (out of 6)/vg++

Line-up:
KIM SIMMONDS – STAN WEBB – MILLER ANDERSON (guitars & vocals)
Eric Dillon, Drums; Jim Leverton, Bass

Recorded live along the “BOOGIE BROTHERS” tour on March 13, 1974 at Madison Square Garden, NYC as support act for Deep Purple (though not mentioned on ticket).

1. Boogie Brothers
2. Rock & Roll Star
3. My Love’s Lying Down
4. Wang Dang Doodle
Total: 49:53 min.

OU: This is the only live recording of this unique Savoy Brown incarnation that I know of. I received this from my old trading mate Larry Clark a few years back (big thanks again, mate!); Larry taped a lot of NYC shows in the early 70's and it may well be he did this one himsel, too.
Savoy Brown have somewhat run out of steam by 1973, and Kim Simmonds reputedly lost interest in his band.
Luckily, he (or whoever) had the great idea to team up with Stan Webb who in 1973 had also just laid his Chicken Shack to rest, plus multitalented Miller Anderson whose band Hemlock hadn’t got off the ground.
Alas, when I purchased the album I was a bit disappointed and I still think this show here sounds like the LP should have done. GREAT playing by all, and I’m happy that they did so many numbers off their album as I think they only really come to life here. Only their stage perennial “Wang Dang Doodle” is a bit …well, sup-par IMHO with its endless repetitive “All Night Long” shouts – didn’t know nights could be THAT long. :)
They did a UK club tour in June 1974, with a Marquee Club date around the 20th.
A poster scan can be found here: http://cres1.lancs.ac.uk/~esarie/Stoneground/
Too band there is no recording with a complete club date set in circulation. However may sit on one – pretty, pretty, pleeze, OK?
I just wish - like any Savoy fan, I guess – they had stayed together a bit longer; reputedly (ans perhaps not surprisingly, given the high profile of each “Brother”), it was ego clashes that eventually lead to this band’s breakup by the end of 1974.
Savoy ahoy!

The announcer says, "Fresh from the Fillmore East," so this comes right after a gig there. Wonderful quality and performance. Lineup: Chris Youlden-Kim Simmonds-Lonesome Dave Peverett-Roger Earle-Tone Stevens. To me, Youlden is one of Rock's finest voices. 2 song samples provided. Enjoy!

This recording should not be confused with the series labelled "The Dan Lampinski Tapes Volume XX".

OU Notes: This is from the CD that was given out after the show. The balance was a bit off so I adjusted the balance and resplit the tracks cause I dont like the *on the fly* splitting that was done while recording. I had great asperations of mixing my recording with the soundboard but im much much too lazy to do it right.
Credits: A big thanks to Lee who works at the Workplay for selling me a ticket even tho the show was sold out!

GENERATION: FM > ANA[1] > .WAV[24/96kHz] > .FLAC [16/44kHz]
RECORDING: Denon TU-235RD > Denon PMA-525R > NAD 613 > 2x Maxell XLII S 100 (re-used)
TRANSFER: Makamichi DR-3 > Soundblaster X-FI > Adobe Audition 3 > CD Wave Editor 1.98 > Trader's Little Helper 2.5.0
OU NOTES
- A few radio station ID's here and there, none were removed, transfer was only slightly equalized.
- There is some tape degradation on "Get On Your Boots" during 2 seconds (that's, kids, why you should always use new tapes to record ...)
- A few seconds were lost in a tape swap at the end of Walk-On, the taper switched taped during a jingle when there was still music afterwards.
- Transfer was done azimuth corrected at 24/96; still the broadcast have some echo and Bono's voice isn't very powerful on the recording.
- Broadcasted live on 94.5 KFM. Recording was done in mono (or broadcasted in false stereo at least).

Pink Floyd Rarities 1987 - 1994 (Various) FLAC

repost by request
a-tree-full-of-secrets
A TREE FULL OF SECRETS
Volume 4 (CD7 - CD8)
Pink Floyd Rarities 1987 - 1994

CD7
1 - Learning to Fly (Gilmour, Ezrin, Carin, Moore) - demo 01:22
Recorded: 1986
2 - Learning to Fly (Gilmour, Ezrin, Carin, Moore) - edit 04:19
Recorded: 1987
The instrumental part before the last verse ("Above the planet on a wing and a prayer ...") is edited (6 bars instead of 10 during the "checklist"). This version also fades out slightly earlier than the regular one.
3 - The Dogs of War (Gilmour, Moore) - edit 05:34
Recorded: 1987
Shorter intro (2 themes instead of 8). Note that the end is not mixed with the beginning of "One Slip" as on the album.
4 - One Slip (Gilmour, Manzanera) - edit 03:58
Recorded: 1987
This version begins with the first drum hit (the "clocks noises" part of the album version is skipped). The rototom intro is edited (4 themes instead of 8) and doesn't have the background keyboards. The central part with bass solo is edited (2 themes instead of 4). The last chorus is repeated and the fade out happens during the second one (on the album version, after the last chorus, there's a reprise of the bass solo and then the song fades out).
5 - On the Turning Away (Gilmour, Moore) - edit 03:54
Recorded: 1987
The quiet fretless bass lines, just before the last verse, are edited out. The first part of the final guitar solo is edited. Early fade out.
6 - The Dogs of War (Gilmour, Moore) - live 07:24
Recorded: live, Atlanta, the Omni, November 5, 1987
7 - On the Turning Away (Gilmour, Moore) - live 06:54
Recorded: live, Atlanta, the Omni, November 5, 1987
8 - One Slip (Gilmour, Manzanera) - live 05:24
Recorded: live, Atlanta, the Omni, November 5, 1987
Note that this live version was never officially released. It's only available from TV broadcasts.
9 - Run Like Hell (Waters, Gilmour) - live 07:27
Recorded: live, Atlanta, the Omni, November 5, 1987
10 - Wearing the Inside Out (Wright, Moore) - LP version 06:26
Recorded: 1994
Different from the CD version, with a slight change in the lyrics: the first lines of the second verse ("I murmured a vow ... when I think aloud") were added to the first verse, and the rest of the second verse ("Extinguished by the light ... with an empty smile") was left out, so that the LP version has a longer first verse, and no second verse between "This bleeding heart's not beating much" and "I'm creeping back to life...".
11 - Take it Back (Gilmour, Ezrin, Samson, Laird-Clowes) - edit 04:54
Recorded: 1994
Edits during the intro (5 chords instead of 9), the central part (8 chords instead of 16) and the outro (4 chords instead of 8).
12 - Take it Back (Gilmour, Ezrin, Samson, Laird-Clowes) - extended 07:05
Recorded: 1994
Extended ending.
13 - Keep Talking (Gilmour, Wright, Samson) - radio edit 04:54
Recorded: 1994
Late fade in (the first 24 seconds from the original version are missing). The guitar and keyboards solos in the middle of the song are both shortened. Early fade out.

CD8
1 - Lost for Words (Gilmour, Samson) - clean version 04:56
Recorded: 1994
The "f*" word in "please gonna f* myself" is censored by a "beep". Early fade out.
2 - High Hopes (Gilmour, Samson) - radio edit 05:13
Recorded: 1994
Edits during the piano/bells intro (2 themes instead of 4), during the central instrumental part with acoustic guitar (2 themes instead of 4) and during the ending guitar solo. Note that the "radio edit" on the French single is 5 seconds shorter (2 more bells ringings were cut).
3 - High Hopes - "phone call" 00:11
Recorded: 1994
At the very end of "The Division Bell" album, there's a phone conversation between Steve O'Rourke (Floyd's manager) and Charlie (Polly Samson's son; Polly married David Gilmour in 1994). This conversation was probably incidentally recorded by the answering machine at Gilmour's house.
4 - David Gilmour interview 13:36
Recorded: March 26, 1994
This is an "answers only" interview, where David Gilmour is supposed to answer 8 different questions. The questions are available on a separate sheet provided with the promo CD:
Question 1: Where was your new album, The Division Bell, recorded?
Question 2: How was the recording of this album different from the previous Pink Floyd album?
Question 3: How did you arrive at the title The Division Bell?
Question 4: Do you enjoy putting on such enormous concert events?
Question 5: Let's talk about the songs on the album. On "What Do You Want From Me" the music was written by you and Richard and the lyrics were written by you and Polly Samson. Could you tell us how this wame about?
Question 6: There's an incredible instrumental on the album. Could you explain how you came up with the music and the title to "Marooned"?
Question 7: How did you come up with "Wearing The Inside Out". I see that Dick Parry plays saxophone on this song ?
Question 8: "Keep Talking" is an amazing song. It's being played on the radio almost constantly. Are you happy with the response that song is getting ?
5 - Soundscape (uncredited) 22:07
Recorded: 1994
This track consists of various ambient noises and is probably an extract of the (longer) tape that was played before the Floyd shows during the Division Bell Tour.
Somewhere in the middle, an extract from "Cluster One" can be heard. It is not available on "P*U*L*S*E" CD and LP releases.
6 - Astronomy Dominé (Barrett) - live 04:46
Recorded: live, Miami, Joe Robbie Stadium, April 30, 1994
First song from the first night of the Division Bell Tour.
7 - One of These Days (Waters, Wright, Mason, Gilmour) - live 06:55
Recorded: live, Hannover, Niedersachsenstadion, August 17, 1994
8 - Wish You Were Here (Waters, Gilmour) - live edit 03:52
Recorded: live, Rome, Cinecitta, September 20, 1994
This is an edit of the "P*U*L*S*E" version: it fades in at the beginning of the acoustic guitar solo (at 01:42 on "P*U*L*S*E" CD), and there's a short edit during the last guitar/voice duo, after the last verse (the segment 04:29-04:43 on the "P*U*L*S*E" CD version was cut).
9 - Coming Back to Life (Gilmour) - live edit 03:59
Recorded: live, London, Earls Court, October 13, 1994
This is an edit of the "P*U*L*S*E" version: the instrumental guitar intro is missing (the song begins with the first lines "Where were you ..."), and it ends just after the last verse (skipping the final guitar solo).
10 - One of These Days (Waters, Wright, Mason, Gilmour) - live 06:45
Recorded: live, London, Earls Court, October 16 & 20, 1994
