I did not intend on becoming political, but here it is, 2025 and politics have become mainstream media, after Covid 19 and all the back and forth, Generation Z has grown up, and Generation X now are the old people in the room. We all are paying a lot more attention to that man behind the curtain, to the point that we have decided to burn that curtain down. We want the truth, no matter how painful it can be, no matter disillusioned the American people have to become. We can handle it, and we want it. No more slippery Willy, No more skirting around things. We want answers to tough questions, and we want to watch as higher ups explain themselves. This is not just one way, this is left and right. We are tired of being Jedi’d out of the conversation with a wave of a hand, and a lick and a promise.

People may fall for the drugs being handed to us to calm us, to tell us that we have things wrong with us, try to Fix our mental health, or give ourselves shots to become skinny, but there are still those out there that stand up and say no. Smoking pot was fun because it was illegal. Making it legal to Help people who are stressed out just makes everyone comply to anyone’s agenda. Letting people work from home when they are needed at the office, does not help to get everything back on track, it helps to hold people unaccountable, and things go a lot slower. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to be able to work from home, while holding a prominent position in the government but I would slack off, and getting out into the world is actually healthy.

I hope in all this we as a country can come together and work together to make things better. It has been a long time coming, getting the country back on track. Do I agree with all of the new Trump policies and demands? No. But, I do agree with a lot of them. Am I happy that Doge is trying to get rid of programs that do not work? Yes. Am I thrilled that in the first three weeks of this administration , things are on a fast track to tackling a lot of massive problems? Yes. Am I happy that we are closing the border and sending back people who are here illegally?. Especially the criminals? Yes. Am I scared about what is to come? Yes and No. What I do know is that I do not want our country to turn into what is happening in the EU. I am skeptical about the energy bills, because I love the wilderness and animals, but I also know we need to tackle these things and get these things rolling to make America better. Do I believe that Aliens are taking over ? No. Do I believe the Earth is Flat? No. Do I believe that we need to have only electric cars? No. Do I think USPS shipping is too expensive? Yes. Do I think Egg prices are ridiculas? Yes.

So there you go. Happy Saturday 2-15-2025

Her Seafaring Scoundrel

By Sophie Barnes

49109946._SY475_

Her Seafaring Scoundrel was a joy to read. I found I really liked Dev and Cassandra . I loved her daughter. I am hoping she will have a book, but she might not.
It is always nice when you like the two characters , it makes a book run faster.

I do wish that I could have learned more about why both Devlin and Cassandra had such terrible childhoods. I would have liked to read more of the back story, and also I would have enjoyed more of the romance when they had gotten to their destination. I felt like I missed something.

I don’t want to give anything away, but it is absolutely worth it to read this, and my only regret is that I did not get to read the first two beforehand.

A word to anyone reading…. Stay safe.  I am very happy that I have a chance to escape into Sophie Barnes world right now, and I am thankful for the good book.

Thank you Sophie Barnes and NetGalley for letting me read and review this really fun book.

1985~ Christmas Past

IMG_4346

With this pandemic in full force rigor , keeping us at arms length , I have dove into my barn looking for a reason to work.  I am like most, I have watched too much television, I have eaten too much, slept too much, and paid way too much attention to the maps and graphs and daily death tolls.  It has sent me into a depression and I only want to sleep, and hope the day is brighter when I wake up.

As I do this, I realize that opportunity is here.  Knocking on my head like a beast who wishes to enter and help, and I am keeping the door closed, my mind closed, trying to pretend that all in normal.  There is a lot to be said about being able to stay home, even if your money is running out, bills are going to be late and food , not to mention toilet paper is getting low.

I still have the ability to do lots of things. One thing I can do is check out the awesome old books I have in the barn.. I have hundreds. I am a hoarder of things people want to throw away. I do not gather things people want, that to me would be ridicules. I gather things that people would rather toss. Not garbage, but items there seems to be no use for anymore .

Lots of people started minimizing.  Minimalist behavior was starting to become the new thing, until facebook group walked in and showed these true believers things like “collections”   then it was no holds barred. Suddenly people were scrounging for things I kept.  Let them. There is plenty for us all.  I still have a whole barn full of boxes full that I wanted to sell. Put into a brick and mortar antique shop , not to much different than the girl in breast whisperer. I mean Ghost Whisperer.. of course.

There is no reason I cannot delve into the past and post a book I found today in a box…

Creative Ideas for Christmas ~ 1985

That’s right!  1985, baby.  These books were probably put out every year. Oxmore House produced these.  It is a hardcover book full of crafts and ideas for a world before Corona. When people still had decent insurance, and good jobs, and cocaine was still a thing .  Block parties,  underage drinking, staying away from touchy uncles, and pot was illegal and still fun to try to grow from the upstairs window of your two story house… but I regress……

Nancy Janice Fitzpatrick compiled this book.. It was probably harder than it is today. She didn’t have pinterest to give her ideas. She probably had to actually make phone calls.

If you want to check this book out, I am going to be selling it on Ebay , unless after writing this, I find it so awesome, I keep it.

There are a lot of really neat ideas actually .  The book is full of them. ( and no… I didn’t have a touchy uncle…. but I know they were out there, and I knew how to stay away from the ones who looked sketchy.)  Reading through it is better than a session on Etsy.

IMG_4353

Highlights include:

How to make a punched tin light.  This is awesome, since I see these for sale sometimes, and I really want to learn how to do this.

The Merry Mailbox is especially cool.  It is a goose!! Make a goose mailbox!  Dude…. you know you want one of these.  Of course you need a band saw… Honey? do we own a band saw?  I think we have one!  I’m excited now!  I’m serious. I want to make my mailbox into a goose.

The “Decorate With What You Have” page has some neat ideas for us poor folk.  Like vases made out of old coke bottles.. of course… who has old coke bottles? I have some plastic ones….

Wooden elves shelf sitters…. but those take wood working again, and I do not know if I am down with that.

IMG_4350

Woven ornaments from felt. These look pretty fun to make. Felt and ribbon.

IMG_4347

Felt onaments.   I always loved these.  Now, there is a pattern!

Two rag dolls!  I am a sucker for rag dolls. I don’t know why, I am not really a doll person, but there is something about rag dolls… I am going to have to check this one out too.

Notepads from strips of fabric. That is super cool.  I like these.  You can update these and make them even better than the ones they show.

Playful puppy pillow. You know deep in your soul that you would like one of these.

IMG_4349

Pet stockings!, A band of Carolers, A creepy terry cloth clown ice pack…. yikes…(You can give that to the touchy uncle who gets punched)  ,A starry night afghan, ….

Now for the awesome recipes!!!   I don’t wanna talk about them, cause they are way, way too tempting right now .   Look at the table of contents… I dare you….  Especially the hot buttered drink mix,  Jesus,Mary, and Joseph…..  Hot Toddys,Mulled Cider, and Cafe au Lait will never be the same.  Swiss Almond Tea Wafers!!! Agh! They have those little silver beads on them… Oh dear….   I could go on and on……   But I am hungry now.

Needless to say,  I think this book is a treasure trove of ideas and really great recipes, and with us all in quarantine, it is nice to look back into the past before Keto Diets and Monster drinks…… Have yourself some breakaway vegetable bread.  I know I am going to give it a go…..

I give this book five stars .  It should be a treasure in everyone’s kitchen and a gift you could give your very best friend.

Here is the story…

Desperate to escape his mother’s matchmaking, Vincent Hunt, Viscount Darleigh, flees to a remote country village. But even there, another marital trap is sprung. So when Miss Sophia Fry’s intervention on his behalf finds her unceremoniously booted from her guardian’s home, Vincent is compelled to act. He may have been blinded in battle, but he can see a solution to both their problems: marriage.

At first, quiet, unassuming Sophia rejects Vincent’s proposal. But when such a gloriously handsome man persuades her that he needs a wife of his own choosing as much as she needs protection from destitution, she agrees. Her alternative is too dreadful to contemplate. But how can an all-consuming fire burn from such a cold arrangement? As friendship and camaraderie lead to sweet seduction and erotic pleasure, dare they believe a bargain born of desperation might lead them both to a love destined to be?

And here is my review, Which has some spoilers in it, round aboutly:

First, If I would have known this was a Survivor Club novel, I probably would have skipped it. They are not my favorite, but not at all because of the things the men and women have to overcome.  I don’t understand the draw of the Survivor Club books. I sometimes think that accidentally Mary took them all on. Just because you have flaws, does not mean that they have to be flawed in other ways too, like, of the three I read, I can say sex with these heroes seems below par. Some don’t know what they are doing or are just not all that good at it. Can’t one of these guys have been a rogue or a rake or something, so they can satisfy the girl? Vincent is blind…. but wouldn’t that give him more reason to explore with his tongue, and he could have been super sexy about it too, but instead, it was washed aside, as if it didn’t matter, and Sophie was okay with it. Sort of.  Mary, I know you can do it, I have read a lot of your books.

It was a decent read, but i found it hard to imagine Sophie being so God Awful ugly that Sebastian would have told her all of those mean and terrible things.  Also, that people would grimace when they saw Vincent was to marry her. I don’t think people are all that ugly. It is hard to find someone so over the top that it would send me that direction. Plain, sure, but everyone has something. I gave it three stars , because I did cry a little at the end, but then again, I was close to my time of the month.

P.S. I found out that I use words that really are not words. Such as Vilegence. Apparently I would be horrible at Scrabble. My husband thinks it is cute. Which only made me more angry that I used a non word for so many years. Damn it. I always thought I was witty.

The Queen of the Frogs
by Davide Cali and Marco Soma
I really enjoyed reading this great story, and I loved the drawings.
The frogs enjoy their life at the pond, filling their days with fly brunches and night music. But one day a little frog finds a crown at the bottom of the pond and is instantly pronounced a queen. She starts doing what queens do: making demands and expecting others to serve her. But when her royal subjects start to question her authority, she must prove she’s fit to rule—if she can.
Reminiscent of Aesop’s fables, this beautifully illustrated book is sure to start a discussion about the concept of leadership and the importance of humility.

There, There ~
By Tim Beiser and Bill Slavin

Do you ever feel like everything is terrible? Like nothing is ever right and you just want to hide under your pillow? Well Rabbit does, and he’s not shy about sharing it. He whines, he complains, he moans, he grumps… until Bear has had enough and decides it’s time for Rabbit to learn to appreciate what he has. Using nothing but the lowly common earthworm as an example, he teaches Rabbit a lesson about taking things for granted. Something the worm knows all about…

Written in charming verse and featuring a delightfully domestic bear and a very surly rabbit, There, There is a fantastic tongue-in-cheek riff on the idea that “it could be worse…”

I love Bill Slavin’s Artwork! This book was so cute!

A Pattern for Pepper
By Julie Kraulis
I am a fan of fabrics, and of fabric patterns!!!  This is a super cute book!  I like this one a lot!!
Pepper is getting a dress made for a special occasion. It’s the first dress that has ever been made just for her, and she wants it to be perfect. But what pattern is right for her? Pepper is particular, and nothing works at first. Dotted Swiss? Too plain. Houndstooth? Not enough color. Pinstripe? Too glum. As Pepper learns about each fabric, she finds a reason why it’s just not the one. Will Pepper ever be able to find the perfect pattern?
Julie Kraulis takes readers on a journey through gorgeous patterns and their origins–from the mountains of Switzerland to the green grass of Scotland–in search of Pepper’s ideal pattern. The incredible illustrations make for a dress, a character and a book that are impossible to forget.

Harry and Clare’s Amazing Staycation By
Ted Staunton
Harry and Clare are stuck at home for their spring break. No exotic locations, no plane trips, no exciting plans. So they make their own fun: the living room becomes Mars, the diving board at the pool becomes a pirate’s plank and the local playground where the man-eating octopus lives. The trouble is, older sister Clare is the one making all the rules, and that means deciding on the game AND eating all the food. But Harry has a plan to turn the tables… if he can just keep his snacks out of the Abominable Snowman’s clutches!
Cute Story!!  I like the way that create things to do.  Sometimes it is best to stay home and enjoy yourself!

Count Your Chickens
by Jo Ellen Bogart and Lori Joy Smith
Fans of Richard Scary will be in for a treat with this excellent counting book.  I love these kinds of books best because of the hours you spend with your kids.
Chickens, chickens everywhere — going to the county fair! Follow a family of chickens as they prepare for their big outing. You’ll see chickens wondering what to wear, baking pies, painting their toes and knitting socks. A stroll through town reveals that everyone else is excited for the festivities too. There are so many sights to see! Over there we see racers sprinting to the finish line. Over here, farmers showing off their best crops. Clowns, entertainers and musicians take the stage. And don’t forget the rides: the Ferris wheel, super slide and merry-go-round. Grab some cotton candy and popcorn, because this very silly book will entertain and challenge young readers with searching and counting elements.

Little Blue Chair
by Cary Fagan
I especially liked this book.  I loved the way the chair went from person to person all over the world. It was really cute. I would be happy to purchase this one for any kid I know. Including myself!
A sweet, whimsical tale that chronicles the journey of a chair as it changes hands and uses. Perfect for fans of The Good Little Book, Something for Nothing and Virginia Lee Burton’s The Little House.
Boo’s favorite chair is little and blue. He sits in it, reads in it and makes a tent around it…until the day he grows too big for it. His mother puts the little blue chair out on the lawn where a truck driver picks it up. The truck driver sells it to a lady in a junk store where it sits for many years until it’s sold and put to use as a plant stand. In the years that follow, the little blue chair is used in many other ways — on an elephant ride, in a contest, on a Ferris wheel, in a tree…until the day it flies away, borne aloft by balloons, and lands in a garden of daffodils where a familiar face finds it.

A charming, beautifully illustrated read-aloud that follows the adventures of a little chair, beginning as the seat of a small child who loves books and circling back to that child’s child many years (and bottoms) later.

It’s Great Being a Dad
By Dan Bar-el
Cute and Silly. I enjoyed this book very much. I recommend it also as a read along, and read aloud title.

A celebration of the best kind of dad: the kind that’s willing to join in the fun.

A gang of mythical creatures is roaming around a magical land having a great time, until Bigfoot gets his foot stuck in a tree trunk and Unicorn gets her horn impaled on a table and Robot’s saw-arm gets rusted into position. But have no fear! Dad is there to fix things–even when a Sneaky Flying Alligator Pirate steals the Fairy Queen Ballerina Doctor’s wand.

A hilarious story about imagination, play and the best parts about being a dad.

Wolfie & Fly
By Cary Fagan
I do love Cary Fagan’s writing, and this title is just as enjoyable.

A classic story of imagination, friendship, adventure and speeding through the ocean in a cardboard box. For fans of Ivy & Bean, Judy Moody or Nate the Great.

Wolfie and Fly is an early chapter book at its simplest and best. Our heroine, Renata Wolfman (Wolfie) does everything by herself. Friends just get in the way, and she only has time for facts and reading. But friendship finds her in the form of Livingston Flott (Fly), the slightly weird and wordy boy from next door. Before she knows it, Wolfie is motoring through deep water with Fly as her second in command in a submarine made from a cardboard box.

Out on a solo swim to retrieve a baseball vital to the mission, Wolfie is finally by herself again, but for the first time, she finds it a little lonely. Maybe there is something to this friend thing…

Learn English and Spanish in this 2nd book in Canticos’ highly praise bilingual nursery rhyme series of sing-a-long, interactive and, in this book, counting fun! Little Elephants is based on a traditional Mexican counting song and is one of the oldest (and best!) methods of putting a child to sleep. Children can easily learn the verses which describe how a number of elephants come to be balancing on a spider web thanks to the repetitive pattern of the nursery rhyme. Each spread depicts a brightly colored numeral describing the number of elephants making Elefantitos/Little Elephants ideal for helping little ones learn colors and counting to five.

With a unique reversible accordion and interactive design, the traditional Latin American counting song is presented with one side of the book in its native Spanish and a rhyming English language translation on the other. Children can read it straight through in traditional book format — pulling the tabs and making the elephants heads sway to the rhythm of the verse — or stand it up and surround themselves with the story.

Ponyville Confidential
by Sherilyn Connelly
You knew it would be here eventually!!!
Beloved by young girls around the world, Hasbro’s My Little Pony franchise has been mired in controversy since its debut in the early 1980s. Critics dismissed the cartoons as toy advertisements, and derided their embrace of femininity. The 2010 debut of the openly feminist My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic renewed the backlash, as its broad appeal challenged entrenched notions about gendered entertainment.
This first comprehensive study of My Little Pony explores the history and cultural significance of the franchise through Season 5 of Friendship Is Magic and the first three Equestria Girls films. The brand has continued to be on the receiving end of a sexist double standard regarding commercialism in children’s entertainment, while masculine cartoons such as the Transformers have been spared similar criticism.
P.S.  Even my neighbor’s 18 year old son loves My Little Pony and it’s Messages.

The Wild Swans
By Hans Christian Andersen

Description

A princess has eleven brothers. The twelve siblings live happily and well, until their father decides to remarry. Their new stepmother is a wicked woman, and she turns all the brothers into swans and banishes the princess from the palace. And so it is left to Elisa to endure countless hardships alone in order to save her beloved brothers from the spell.

This edition also contains a new translation of Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved story The Nightingale, a story about a Chinese emperor who prefers the song of a mechanical nightingale to that of the real bird. When he falls ill, it is the nightingale who saves him. The story has been adapted for stage, opera, muscial theatre and television many times.

I Want That Love
Tatsuya Miyanishi
This one was a little rough for me, i got the message, and it was appealing, but it was not a book that I enjoyed. It seemed like the message of love overpowers strength, is fine, but I don’t like things pushed down my throat. Maybe children do.

Convinced that strength is best, a Tyrannosaurus stalks through his prehistoric world, terrorizing the smaller animals. But even the strongest dinosaurs get old; one day, weak and wounded, the Tyrannosaurus meets a baby Triceratops who, along with his little friends, shows kindness like the Tyrannosaurus has never experienced before. Instead of feasting on the little Triceratops, the Tyrannosaurus comes to understand that love is more powerful than violence. He does something heroic and truly powerful, and in the process, shows us all that what is really precious and important isn’t strength; it’s love.

A Note From the Publisher

It is the third book in Tatsuya Miyanishi’s Tyrannosaurus series of 13 titles that have sold more than 3 million copies in Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan and France. “The theme of the Tyrannosaurus series is love. There aren’t as many important things for us as to more often say such beautiful words as ‘I love you.’ The love I write about is something very natural. Here, it’s all about showing that love is far more important that power. I hope you agree!” —Tatsuya Miyanishi

Gracie Meets a Ghost

By Keiko Sena

I recommend this cute little story full of suspense and heartwarming humor.

Gracie wears glasses because she can’t see very well without them. One night she realizes that she left her glasses on the mountain where she was playing, so she goes straight out to find them. But without her glasses everything looks fuzzy. When she sees a big white object, she can’t tell what it is. Could it be a balloon? A sheet? It’s actually a ghost who is determined to frighten her—but the only way he can do that is to make sure she can see him! Gracie thinks it’s a very kind, helpful person who helps her look for her glasses . . . but what will happen when he finds them?

A Note From the Publisher

Keiko Sena was born in Tokyo in 1932. She is a book designer and the creator of many picture books and kamishibai (picture-panel stories). Her books have been read by generations in Japan and are considered classics. They have been translated into many different languages, including Chinese, French, and English. She has received the prestigious Sankei Children’s Book Award.

“My son was the inspiration for Gracie,” says author/artist Keiko Sena. “When he was in elementary school, his teacher recommended that he get his eyes checked and he needed glasses. Since there were only a small number of students wearing them, I wanted to cheer him up by writing a story about how wearing glasses was fun. That was 40 years ago and he’s now a university professor proudly sporting his glasses.”

Such a cute story!

You Belong To Me
By Mamoru Suzuki
You Belong to Me is a heartwarming story of the unconditional love that parents (both human as well as parents from the animal kingdom) have for their children. The simple text of love, caring and protection is accompanied by adorable illustrations of animals and dinosaurs that hug, help, and protect a human child. The comforting text is perfect for a soothing bedtime story:

I love you so much.
I care about you the most in the world.
I’m with you in the morning, in the afternoon, and in the evening.
I’ll protect you all the time.
I’ll go anywhere with you.
And so on.

The repetition of the sweet, reassuring messages will calm your child as you lull them to sleep, and will leave a smile on your face and warm your heart as well.
This beautiful book is a perfect gift for parents with a newborn baby.

A Note From the Publisher

About the Author: Born in 1952, Mamoru Takahashi’s first published work as a picture-book artist was Boku no okina ki (My Big Tree), with a story by Masao Tsurumi in 1980. After moving to the Izu Peninsula in 1986, he became fascinated by the various forms of birds’ nests, and began studying and collecting them. He has published many picture books and articles relating to nests. In 2006 he received the Kodansha Award for Picture Books for Boku no tori no su enikki (My Illustrated Diary of Birds’ Nests).
I agree, a perfect gift for parents with a newborn. I just love the way this book is written.

Lila and the Crow
by Gabrielle Grimard
This one was kind of crazy, but I did like the way that Lila overcame her feelings of sadness by embracing this very thing that her classmates bullied her about. Of course it also goes along with the adversity that again, is being pushed down the throats of our kids. But Kindness rules.  I have always felt that way.

Description

Lila has just moved to a new town and can’t wait to make friends at school. But on the first day, a boy points at her and shouts: “A crow! A crow! The new girl’s hair is black like a crow!” The others whisper and laugh, and Lila’s heart grows as heavy as a stone.

The next day, Lila covers her hair. But this time, the boy points at her dark skin. When she covers her face, he mocks her dark eyes. Now every day at school, Lila hides under her turtleneck, dark glasses, and hat. And every day when she goes home, she sees a crow who seems to want to tell her something. Lila ignores the bird and even throws rocks at it, but it won’t go away.

Meanwhile, the great autumn festival is approaching. While the other kids prepare their costumes, Lila is sadder and lonelier than ever. At her lowest point of despair, a magical encounter with the crow opens Lila’s eyes to the beauty of being different, and gives her the courage to proudly embrace her true self.

Max at Night
By Ed Vere
I am such a huge fan of this story!  What a great way to cap off this page!   Bedtime stories are the very best, and this one will be read over and over again.
Max is done being brave, and now it’s time to sleep—all he has to do is say good night. But something’s wrong! When Max goes to say good night to the moon, it’s nowhere to be found. Unable to sleep without finishing his nighttime ritual, Max embarks on a journey to find the moon and wish it a good night.

With the same lovable character and bright, graphic illustrations as the New York Times bestseller, Max the Brave, Max at Night is sure to delight young readers and adults alike.

So , That is it, People , It has taken me days to prepare this post, as my internet has become scattered the closer we come to Christmas. Yes, I did say Christmas!  I think it may be the amount of users  that go on at the same time that messes everything up, or maybe it is my sons PS4.  I love to blame the PS4, but, can I really?   Some of these books I liked more than others, but I did enjoy reading them and giving my thoughts.
I received these books in exchange for an honest review, Thank you Netgalley!  And If you have not checked out Netgalley, do so.  It is really a great place to read!

Book Review: The Trail of Ted Bundy~ Digging Up The Untold Stories~ Kevin Sullivan

b4424f78423b1a396d4993b76bf81721Within the pages of THE TRAIL OF TED BUNDY:Digging Up the Untold Stories, you’ll hear the voices – many for the first time – of some of Ted Bundy’s friends, as they bring to light the secrets of what is was like to know him while he was actively involved in murder. The stories of his victims are here as well, as told by their friends, including the information and anecdotes that didn’t make it into the investigative files and are being published here for the first time. Two of the former detectives who worked with author Kevin Sullivan during the writing of his widely-acclaimed book, THE BUNDY MURDERS, return to aid readers in fully understanding Bundy’s murderous career; it’s ripple-effect impact on those who came into contact with him in one way or another, and dispelling commonly held myths.

cover103291-medium

THE TRAIL OF TED BUNDY is a journey back in time, to when Ted Bundy was killing young woman and girls in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. It’s told by those who knew him, and you’ll hear their revealing stories, many being voiced and put to print for the very first time. The friends of the victims are here as well, and they too share their insights about the victims, and some of what they tell here had been held back from the investigators, such was their commitment to their deceased friends. It’s also the story of those who hunted Bundy; those who guarded him, and those who otherwise were a part of this strange case one way or another.

ted-bundy

Companion to The Bundy Murders, Kevin Sullivan does it again, and brings to light more disturbing dialog and facts about one of the most notorious serial killers who ever lived. Sociopath Ted Bundy has an unusual story, and has sparked attention throughout the years.  I posted an image on social media this morning  assuming that he would be quickly recognized, and found that few people knew who he was.  They know the name, at least most do, but not as many people as I thought would. I then posted this image:

6-things-about-ted

Thinking it to be a dead giveaway.  Nope. No one knew. And I know it was early, maybe all the people who would know were still asleep. Maybe it was the fact that no one remembered?  I don’t think that was possible, but maybe it was.  Just as I hardly saw posts about remembering Pearl Harbor this year, Maybe Ted Bundy is now just a fading memory. But, like Pearl Harbor, it should not be one we forget.

article-2149382-1345e7ba000005dc-658_634x456

He was an attractive man.  Some on the internet say he was hot. Here, above he looks like a cross between Rob Lowe and Christian Bale.  Either of them could play the part, and it would be believable.  After reading the book The Trail of Ted Bundy, I watched the interview with him on Youtube, His last interview.  He seemed unusually normal.  Who would have guessed a guy that talked and acted like he did murdered 36 known women and young girls. He bludgeoned them, usually with a tire iron, and in the act of strangling them, raped them from behind, both vaginally and anally before and after death . A lot of it, after death.  He also did some things that go even further to horrify me, including keeping some women’s heads in his apartments with him to enjoy later.  In the interview he seemed uncomfortable in his own skin, but I guess anyone would be, knowing they were going to die in less than 24 hours.

From the book I read, I don’t believe it would have been wise to keep the man alive any longer than necessary.  Not only had he escaped twice before, he was a true monster. A man who would definitely kill again.   In the interview I saw,  he expressed over and over how pornography was breeding more and more Ted Bundy’s, but he wanted to stress, that he took full responsibility for his actions. Honestly, after reading what he had done, I have no idea how the man could sleep at night, and when he was asked if he thought he deserved to die, I was expecting him to say hell yes. But he didn’t.

beale-annrulestedbundybook-1200

I would love to read the book that companions this one. It would be nice to see the images and photographs that were talked about, but not put into the Trail book. I only have the review copy, and it is possible that the one that will be published will have more, but I am not certain of this. It is expressed that the pictures I wanted to see are in the first book, and if you search the internet, you will find them, like the pic of him and Carol Bartholomew.

af2065784893e736fba165b58efef8f5

Seemed like such a normal kind of sociopath. None of his friends believed he did the horrible things he was accused of.  Although, finally they all realized he was truly not the person they thought he was. What a wake up call that must have been.

The book is an excellent true crime read, and I recommend it to you. I read it in less than 3 hours, I could not put it down.  I also recommend you pick up a copy of The Bundy Murders also by Kevin Sullivan, as it meshes with this book.  I found The Trail of Ted Bundy both frightening and insightful.  Mr. Sullivan did an excellent job of pulling together more evidence and more insight then the previous book had, many of the people involved in the Bundy case and in his life coming forward with more, including the Library tie in.

I found that when I was a teenager in the late 70’s and early 80’s, that I could have easily have been lead off to help someone, just as most of the women he killed had. I was very trusting, and I have many times, gotten into strangers cars for one reason or another, completely unaware of the danger that I could have been in.  It makes me very thankful that it was not my fate. I can remember once, my friends and I had asked a man in his late 20’s to buy us beer, and then rode in his car to another parking lot to do the exchange of money vs beer. We were around sixteen.  It was one of many stupid moves I had made as a kid.  I must have had a dutiful guardian angel, or I guess I just got lucky. Kind of like Ted did with his victims.  I truly hope that I have done a good job of making sure my son does not make the same mistakes I made.  I can only hope.  But, I guess that is the only thing we can do. Always be aware of your surroundings, and be cautious of strangers, or in this case… just about anyone.   In the end, it all has to do with luck. But Karate and swordfighting skills might be a good idea.

A Note From the Publisher

A writer of history and true crime, Kevin M. Sullivan is the author of eleven books, a former investigative journalist for both print and online media, and is a recognized authority on serial sex killer, Ted Bundy. Indeed, his “break out” book, The Bundy Murders: A Comprehensive History, published by McFarland in 2009, was the catalyst that brought him much attention in the true crime world, leading to appearances on numerous radio programs and contacts from documentarians both here in the United States and the United Kingdom. Portions of his biography of Ted Bundy also appear in the college textbook, Abnormal Psychology: Clinical Perspectives on Psychological Disorders, published by McGraw-Hill in November 2012. His current work on the killer, The Trail of Ted Bundy: Digging Up the Untold Stories, is a companion volume to The Bundy Murders, and contains a lot of new and previously unpublished information about Ted Bundy and this most infamous case.

Advance Praise

“Despite the abundance of books available on Ted Bundy, holes remain in his story. Bundy expert Kevin Sullivan has done the painstaking work of filling some in and offering credible notions for those for which information might always be elusive. An important addition to true crime studies.”—Katherine Ramsland, bestselling author of Psychopath and The Mind of a Murderer

Book Review~ The Road to Jonestown~ Jim Jones and Peoples Temple ~ By Jeff Guinn

How many of you remember this shit? I do.. And it was flavr-aide. And given mostly in syringes. Good freakin’ book, by the way, and there are many instances that I can see added to the panic and fright that lead the public to believe what happened in Waco was fact. If he would have just let John Victor Stoen go home…… he would have had a few more years of being a frightening mess. But… No… 907… RIP. So sad.

Description:
By the New York Times bestselling author of Manson, the comprehensive, authoritative, and tragic story of preacher Jim Jones, who was responsible for the Jonestown Massacre—the largest murder-suicide in American history.

In the 1950s, a young Indianapolis minister named Jim Jones preached a curious blend of the gospel and Marxism. His congregation was racially integrated, and he was a much-lauded leader in the contemporary civil rights movement. Eventually, Jones moved his church, Peoples Temple, to northern California. He became involved in electoral politics, and soon was a prominent Bay Area leader.

In this riveting narrative, Jeff Guinn examines Jones’s life, from his extramarital affairs, drug use, and fraudulent faith healing to the fraught decision to move almost a thousand of his followers to a settlement in the jungles of Guyana in South America. Guinn provides stunning new details of the events leading to the fatal day in November, 1978 when more than nine hundred people died—including almost three hundred infants and children—after being ordered to swallow a cyanide-laced drink.

Guinn examined thousands of pages of FBI files on the case, including material released during the course of his research. He traveled to Jones’s Indiana hometown, where he spoke to people never previously interviewed, and uncovered fresh information from Jonestown survivors. He even visited the Jonestown site with the same pilot who flew there the day that Congressman Leo Ryan was murdered on Jones’s orders. The Road to Jonestown is the definitive book about Jim Jones and the events that led to the tragedy at Jonestown.

EDITION Hardcover
ISBN 9781476763828
PRICE $28.00 (USD)

Eloquently written edge of your seat engrossing reality of how Jim Jones came to power. Like the pull of Manson, he was able to convince a massive populace that his smoke and mirrors show was real. Political  officials, government employees, the movement was attention grabbing. His plan was intoxicating, but the reality was far from it.  When it fell apart, it happened quickly.

The fear that encompassed more than one generation with Manson and Jim Jones  was the doom of Waco. He could have ensnared more… if he would have given up John Victor Stoen. And, of course,  if his paranoia and drug addiction had not taken over, his reign may have been even more devastating.

And although , I cannot find any connection…. Mother Jones … Magazine…. Just sayin’.
