Ever since my husband started residency I've searched for literature on the topic, especially literature from the spouses perspective. I'm one of those people who, upon approaching a new endeavor, looks for a book on the topic. One of these days I will write a book on this thing termed "the medical marriage". I recently stumbled upon a new resource that I thought I'd share with you all.
I found this blog called "The Secret Lives of Doctor's Wives". It has lots of great commentary and resources too. Not a lot of postings have been written recently but I'm secretly hoping that maybe the author, Gail Konop Baker, is working on a book on the topic! She wrote another book on dealing with Cancer, called "Cancer is a Bitch: Or I'd rather be having a Midlife Crisis". I haven't read it yet but it could be a good read for our book group.
I would love to hear how others who are married to residents or doctors cope with the challenges of the medical marriage? I try to remind myself of the amazing talent that my husband has and of all of the strong, resilient resident and attending spouses that I know, who are examples of how a medical marriage can work.

We offer many different interest groups, social events, and philanthropic activities. Scrubmates is a great way to meet new people, get acclimated to living in Indianapolis, feel supported during the ups and downs of residency, and form friendships that will help you enjoy your years of residency.

Devour Downtown - Winter Fest
January 24 - February 5 is Devour Downtown - Winter Fest in Indianapolis. Lots of 2 for $30 deals and even more 3- to 5-course meals for $30 per person. A great excuse to get out of the house this winter and try something new. Highly recommend!
Over 45 restaurants are participating this year. The list even meal deals at Creation Cafe (2 for $30) and Euphoria ($30/person) which are owned by one of our very own Scrubmates, Lynn Shepard! So far, we've tried Mesh and R-Bistro and both were phenomenal. Stopped by 45degrees tonight but it was packed due to a pub crawl.

Upcoming Scrubmates Events
Hi All,
I just updated our website with the most recent best picks list, newsletter, and upcoming events.
I hope to see new and returning faces at some of our upcoming events. I'm especially excited about dessert gourmet night and the Indianapolis Indian's Game! We just got my husbands call schedule for Aug/Sept which let me finally rsvp yes to these events. Before we had my son, Julian, I used to be excited when scrubmates events were scheduled on a night that my husband was on-call because it gave me something to do in the evening while he was working at the hospital. But now, it's the opposite, I tend to hope that he'll be home from work in time to put Julian to bed so that I can make it to a scrubmates event. It's always worth while to spend time with other spouses of residents. I learn so much from hearing about the experiences of others in the group. Its also great that Scrubmates is open to people coming to events as often or rarely as their schedule permits--I know that during some rotations when my husband is on-call a lot it may be several weeks before I can make it to a scrubmates event! Even if I can't make it to an event, it's nice to visit our web site, facebook page, or blog to see what's been happening.
