Latest Scans are great!

Last week Shayla had another round of Sinus CT, chest X-ray and labs and by 4:30 that afternoon I got a call from Dr. Chang's office letting us know all is 'normal', no asteriks, no highlighted numbers, nothing. It was great to get the word before we meet with Dr. Chang on Monday.

That's the great news. The challenge still continues for Shayla though, to get restful sleep. She had a tonsillectomy performed last month to alleviate obstructive sleep apnea. So far, sound sleep has not returned and the lack thereof has been taking a toll on her spirit and her physical stamina. Dr. Beck said it usually takes 2 months post-op to be considered 'healed' from the surgery, so we still have another month of healing to go. There are still other options: CPap or another procedure that would tighten up the lingual tonsils (didn't know those things existed, did ya? Me neither!) with a laser. The recovery for that is much better/easier than the tonsillectomy, but it is still another surgery. It is currently scheduled for later in August, but Shayla doesn't know if she wants to actually go through with it. She just doesn't like the recovery from surgery.

She has a lot on her plate to consider, and she is to start school in the fall. With her spirits being so low I am worried. Hopefully Dr. Chang can give us some guidance here. It might be time to seek some counseling for Shayla to process what the last 4 years has done to and means in her life.

Keep those prayers coming!

Reflections

Shayla was asked to speak at Senior's night for the youth in our stake last Sunday. Her assigned topic was 'Maintaining Faith in Christ through Times of Trials". She did a beautiful job. I am going to ask her if I can publish it here on her blog. It really shows how she has grown over the past 4 years!  In one month she will be graduating from high school and on to college. Dreams I once wondered if we would ever see fulfilled in her life are part of our reality now.

We have been blessed!

Shayla, everyday, every minute, remember that there are many people all over this country who believe about you the same thing Christopher Robin believed about Pooh! AND, we all love you more!!
