After more than ten years dedicated to advancing science and innovation in service of social and environmental impact, we have reached a point where we must bring SoScience’s activities to an end.
This decision comes in the context of a particularly challenging economic environment, but also within a political and institutional landscape that is not currently moving in the direction of strengthening science (and even less toward a science fully committed to the public good), despite the absolute urgency of these issues.
With the perspective gained from over a decade of hands-on experience in this field, we have come to a clear and honest realization: the ambition we have carried, to make research and innovation powerful drivers of social and environmental transformation, remains a visionary stance, and as such, an extremely difficult one to sustain when conditions are not fully aligned.
Even when institutions publicly support the idea of science for society, the reality on the field is one where economic returns on investments always prevail. Only few players were genuinely interested in what we stood out for and actually working towards a true « science with and for society » strategy.
In that regard, I want to deeply thank all our clients and partners that believed our mission, and who, with us, helped shape a better reality for research and innovation.
That said, this does not diminish what we set out to do, nor what we achieved. We are deeply proud to have supported hundreds of projects, teams, researchers, entrepreneurs, and institutions on their impact journeys, and to have contributed, in our own way, to shaping new approaches to science and innovation. This chapter is coming to an end, but the commitment remains.
The members of the SoScience team will continue to engage with these issues in the future, through other paths and in other forms, with the same conviction.
Thank you to everyone who trusted us, supported us, challenged us, and walked alongside us throughout this journey.
The access to all our digital platforms will be terminated on March 15th.
