March 2011 Rudd Cousins Slumber Party

It had been awhile since I had my Rudd nieces and nephews over for a sleep over.  I usually have done it during spring break.  Brian is working tons and only is here for a little and I get to be crazy with the kids I used to see more than I do now that I have my own to monopolize my time and attention.

I had fun getting pizza for them and then crowding into my van and getting ice blocks from Circle K prior to going to Freestone Park (just a short distance from home :) and ice blocking.  We had races, ran into each other, got wet, and stayed until we had slid on every hill they wanted to.  I loved it...even amongst the craziness and they all helped me and listened so that I could keep my little boy Talon near us as it was so dark.

We set up a movie when we got home and then eventually separated boys and girls and got everyone into their sleeping places.  McKensie went to a movie with her parents and just joined us for the sleeping part, which Emmie, her little sister, SOOOOO appreciated.  Ashlee also met up with us later after the slippin and ice slidding.  It was fun to have her.  Wes and Zach are too cool for it now. :)  It is a bit trickier now then it was when we only had under 12s to entertain. :)

I love to have family close.  Grandma Rudd came over the next morning to take some of the kiddos home.  I had a little photo shoot with her.  The kids had a fun-filled morning of receiving tools and paint and trying to create something unique.  Some groups didn't get so far, and in the end they all joined up.  It was the way it should be, heh?

Ellie turned 7 in Utah with her Rollins' Cousins. Annie made her a special treat and she loved spending the time with them. When we got back to Arizona we took her and some friends to Big Surf. It was fun for me to be out with the girlies. Ellie ended up not being tall enough to ride some of the slides (my bad on not checking into that)and she had to wear a life jacket in the wave pool. It bothered me more than Ellie and she handled it with a smile and just had a great time. She brought a girl from the ward, Katy, and then Gracie Rudd, Rachel Fisk, Macey Biggs and Olivia.

Dear Ellie-Bellie,

You win the prize for being the most patient with me. I have so much I wish to write that I feel words cannot adequately express. I have a deep sense of gratitude for your example of forgiveness and gratitude. You have special eyes for the silver lining of all things.

You were given a digital camera by Olivia. I bought it awhile ago for a great deal. I am disappointed with it. YOU however think it is the greatest thing on earth. You are so grateful for every part of it and I am touched. You LOVE the bike that you picked out and I love that you have come to a place of being OK with what you like and can make decisions on your own.

You have a cute and unique sense of style. You really are adorable in the crazy things you put together. It is fun to see you do your own hair and to want to have more privileges. The bike you chose for your birthday is so you. We surprised you with it and you still acted like it “Wow you got me exactly what I wanted! Amazing!” –as if we somehow were omniscient and got the exact bike that you told me you wanted. 

I love being your Mom. Thank you for coming to our family! Thank you for loving all of us, especially Mason. You have been a friend that he has needed this year. You are a great example to me.

I love you.

Mason had his first friend birthday party.  It was so fun.  Brenda and Joe came and spent hours making a balloon arch for him so his bike party would be as cool as Bryson's was :).  I am forever touched by the way they serve and love our family and kiddos.  Mason had a great time and could hardly sleep as he saw it all getting set up.  I loved to see him so happy.  My love for this child has grown deeper in this past year.

Dear Mason-

Tonight we baked a cake. I set it on the stove and then accidentally turned on the burner under the cake. It burnt, the expensive Pampered Chef Pan I purchased busted, and to me in that moment it felt so representative of the day and how I felt. Yet, you looked at me and said, “Mom that’s ok. We can just make another one and if you don’t have vanilla you can make chocolate. I love chocolate.” Thank you for understanding little man. One of your gifts is the way you look up with those big brown eyes and touch someone’s heart, my heart, with your stories, your excitement, your love, your energy and desire to feel.

I love that you are intense. You love to do and feel everything as you wander and explore and ride “your world”. In some ways you want to be older and in other ways you’d like to stay our little boy forever. I can understand the dilemma.

You and Ellie are such little friends. It is inspiring for me to see the way you love each other and especially the way she loves and forgives you. You help each other to develop some of your natural gifts and other character traits that are important.

You have taught me a deeper love this year. I am learning to forgive myself for not being a perfect Mom for you as I diligently seek how to best be your Mother. I really, really love you always…no matter what.

For Christmas we had this rather large fort built by this great guy, whose name we got off of Craig's list. We loved working with him. When we saved up enough money we finally had the slide built and installed by that same guy many months later. The kids were so excited...especially when the irrigation water came a few days after it's completion and it seemed as if we had our own mini-water park. Talon of course was napping during the fun, which seemed like a tender mercy so we could determine the best way to let him enjoy it.

It was also a time in life where the power of having kids enjoy the simple things made life feel so rich. I love to see Brian love and play with the kids and the kids love each other. I think those times my just top all others as a mother...well holding a sleeping, healthy child is up there too. :)

Family Camping Trip to Big Lake

In July, Brian took us up past Pinetop, Arizona to an AWESOME campsite just near Big Lake. We spent several nights there and had such a blast exploring things, fishing on the lake, and waiting out afternoon rain showers under the man-made shelter Brian set up. It was the first time we didn't actually wonder why the heck we try it. Then we realized it was probably because for the first time in YEARS we did not have a child under two, who just handles such sleeping environments and such a little different. Especially in the middle of the night when it may get a little cold. I loved being with the family in nature. It's great to see the life and appreciation for creation that it brings out of everyone.
