こんにちは or Konnichiwa means “Good Afternoon” in Japanese.
We hope you are excited because thepurlshop is thrilled to introduce our first Amigurumi Kokeshi doll couple.
Presenting Mr Takahashi and Miss Reika, all dressed up and ready to go out one a date.
Here’s a little background story on how I was inspired to make these Kokeshi dolls. Being brought up in an Asian country, I have always dreamed of going to Japan. I have seen numerous breathtaking pictures of the Sakura tree (cherry blossom tree) during the spring season. I have heard of many wonderful stories of Japan. The people, the food, the culture, the technology, and of course, the fashion (although I must say I am more inclined to the traditional Kimono rather than the Harajuku style). Kimono is a Japanese traditional garment worn by women, men and children (Source: Wikipedia). All these research on Kimono is making me dying to get one for myself but I found out that a traditional Kimono can easily cost $10,000 to $20,000!!!
I really admire the Kimono. Making these Kokeshi dolls amigurumi allows me to expand my creativity in designing the kimonos for the dolls.
I realise that we’re already in the last quarter of 2010 and year end is usually a popular time for people to tie the knot. Hence, this couple would be a great wedding gift if you have friends who will be getting married. We can customize it to the color you desire and embroider the couple’s initial on the dolls.
