On February 6, 2019, the Seniors here at JBHS will hold a Pie Auction. This auction will take place in our gym during the half times of the three basketball games against Machias. The class of 2019 is doing this to raise money for their class trip. This is their 4th year auctioning off pies. The students ask family members to make the pies that they auction off, and some seniors make the pies themselves.  Come on out to support our Royals and the Class of 2019.

On January 7, 2019, JBHS retired former Royals basketball player Garet Beal’s number before a game against Deer Isle- Stonington. Garet’s number was 24. In the 2011-12 championship season, Garet averaged 22.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.8 steals, 3.6 assists and 1.6 blocked shots. Garet went on to play Division I college ball at the University of Maine.

The Royal Print would like to congratulate JBHS Senior, Stephen Cirone whose Voice of Democracy essay was selected as the winner for our local VFW district. Stephen’s essay has been submitted to the state-wide competition which will be held this Saturday in Bangor.

Royals Update:

The Jonesport-Beals Royals boys basketball team has won 7 games and lost 0 games. They are currently ranked number 1 in Class D North. There are 10 games left in the basketball season. The Royals next game will be on Friday the 11^th at 7:00 PM at Vinalhaven School, against the Vinalhaven Vikings.

Royalettes Update:

The Jonesport-Beals girls basketball team, ranked in 9th place in Class D North, has won 3 out of 7 games this season. The season is not over yet, and they can still get more wins. They have a game today at 4pm against Woodland here at JBHS.

JBHS sophomore students Shakara Leighton and Anson Kelley now have pieces of artwork on display in the Maine State House in Augusta. On Tuesday, December 11, at 2:00pm, JBHS’s art teacher, Ms. Marin, accompanied Shekara and Anson to the State House for a reception sponsored by the Maine Arts Commission. The students,  along with with students from nine other schools, will have their work on display from December 1, 2018 to April 2019. The work by the JBHS students is on display on the second floor of the Burton M. Cross Building.

JBHS will host the second annual Polar Dip on Saturday December 8th, 2018.  Funds raised will support “Let’s All Have a Merrier Christmas.” Registration is at 9:30 a.m., and it costs $10 per person to swim or sponsor. The Polar Dip will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Backfield Park, Beals, ME.

The Eastern Maine Skippers Program had its second cohort day of the year on Wednesday, November 28^th, 2018. The cohort day was held at the Northeast Harbor Neighborhood house in Bar Harbor. Students were able to attend sessions on different topics including Electronics/GIS, Go Pro 101, Value Added Products and Marketing, and Catching Fish (using jigs, flies, nets, and traps).

In the Electronics/ GIS session, the students watched demonstrations from the professionals about the newest and fanciest technology for boats: radar, GPS, etc. They also got a chance to learn how to make their own GIS map.

In the Go Pro 101 session, the students learned how to set up Go Pro cameras on boats and traps in order to get data about fishing practice and safety.

In the Value Added Products and Marketing session, the students went into the kitchen with professionals to create a seafood product, a name, and a label to help learn the in’s and out’s of adding value to seafood.

In the Catching Fish session, the students learned how to build tools for catching fish. They tied flies, rig jigs, and construct gill nets.

The Eastern Maine Skippers Program is a cohort of eight high schools from coastal communities from Washington and Hancock counties, and JBHS has twelve students involved in the program.

The annual Veterans Day program will be held at JBHS on Friday the 9^th of November. There will be a breakfast for the veterans hosted by Mrs. Smith and the “Entrepreneurship: We Mean Business” & “Chefs with Class” classes. The winners of this year’s Voice of Democracy essay contest will read their winning essays. The winners in order from second to first are Judson Carver V and Stephen Cirone. During the program, local Boy Scouts will participate in a flag folding ceremony, and the largest elementary chorus on record will perform several songs including “America the Beautiful.”

The annual Haunted Forest is happening here at JBHS on October 30th, 2018. It will be held outside the Jonesport-Beals High School from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.   The admission fee is $4 per person. The money raised will go towards the junior and senior class trips.
