Devil's Punchbowl August 2014

Devil's Punchbowl.  A hike I need to document, even though the trip was three months ago.  Jonathan took Claire and Jacob on a 2 night backpacking trip.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go due to having a c-section shortly before this trip.  I stayed home with the two youngest.  Jonathan's sister and brother, Natasha and Caleb, also went on the hike.

The hike is located in the Siskyou wilderness.  In case you are wondering about this 12.2 mile round-trip hike that our 7 and 4 year old conquered, here is a quote about the hike from The San Francisco Gate:

"YOU PAY for your pleasure on the trip to Devil's Punchbowl in the Siskiyou Wilderness. One section of trail climbs 1,500 feet in 2 miles. It presents you with nearly 100 switchbacks, and it seems a hike to infinity. Eventually, you will win the reward."

Here are some pictures from the hike:

Meet Lincoln

Let's have you meet the newest and much welcome addition to the Wright family!  Lincoln is much loved and smothered with kisses daily (poor sap).  One of the wonderful things about having multiple kids is that the new baby is not only instantly loved by their parents (and grandparents), but by their siblings as well.  Jacob, Claire, and Olivia adore and love him (sometimes too much by Olivia).  We can't imagine our family without him.

Lincoln was born on July 16th, a week and a half before his due date.  We  feel incredibly blessed to live in a time, and country, where we can have ultrasound images that showed us that my placenta was too close to my cervix for a safe vaginal delivery and there was too much cord between Lincoln's head and my cervix for safe laboring.   Thanks to my wise doctor who knew not only when to deliver Lincoln (before the risk of me going into labor, but also so that Lincoln could be as close to his due date as possible), but also performed the surgery incredibly well, despite my placenta which apparently thought that it should be delivered before my son (it was in an odd location, in the front and low).  Dr. Binette had to make a vertical incision in my uterus to avoid cutting into my placenta  (otherwise, I risked hemorrhaging severely).  I am left with more scarring on my uterus than you would find in a normal cesarean but everything went perfectly (minus the severe nausea that struck during the surgery).  And yes, Lincoln is perfect as well.

That would be my blood in the picture.
