Carole's Long Quilt

Carole made this quilt and I think it may be a bed runner, or maybe a very long table runner. The size is about 40 x 90.

Custom quilting with Meandering Magic feathers, molar feathers and that curl, feather, leaf inner border design.

 Omni lite tan thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting.

Binding Week

Mostly bindings happening here this week. Getting all those PhD's finished at the retreat gave me the motivation to move some "quilted and waiting on bindings" to the finished pile.

I worked on the hand stitching of this one at the retreat. It's now done and checked off my UFO list.

This one is the twin to one that I assembled at the retreat. I applied and hand stitched the binding this week. It just needs a label before it is gifted.

This one is a Quilts For Kids and the strips were 3.5" and there were only 17 or 18 strips, which makes it within the 40-50" requirements for our local Quilts for Kids Chapter. They require stitching the binding on the machine, so I stitched it with a zig-zag for durability.

This is a little NICU quilt for Old Tippe Quilt Guild and it's 30" square. I'm hand stitching it, but I may give someone a call to see if that's ok.

 Here is another Quilts For Kids strip quilt that Karen and I assembled at guild Wednesday evening.

That's all so far. I'll be back working on Mabel tomorrow morning.
Tonight I'm going on a bus with my company to the Indianapolis Indians game. Should be a fun night!

Sue's Batik Quilt

I had a wonderful time at the retreat and finished 5 PhD's. (Projects Half-Done) I also got started on a new yellow/black/white jelly roll quilt. There was an incredible amount of talent in that sewing room! I'm so inspired by all the beautiful projects. I don't know how many times I looked at someone's project and said, "I want to make that!"

But today, it's back to work for me and Mabel. I loaded this quilt of Sue's. I think that actually Jan made the quilt, or maybe started it and Sue finished it. Or maybe it was just Jan's fabrics. Anyway, it's quilted and I am in love with it.

I chose the new Bauhaus Baby panto and just look how well it goes with the design of the quilt. Omni Blue Ice thread and Quilter's Dream Wool batting.

The center of this one was done. It now has lime green leopard print inner border and black and white outer border

Another one done. I just added borders to this one. It's a sudoku quilt that I made to use as a demo at the Quilts For Lids in May. I used almost every bit of the nine fat quarters.  The sashing and cornerstones are the same fabric. Lots of neutrals in this room!

This is the first project done. The pattern doesn't call for borders, but I may add them. 

Carolyn's Antique Tiles

Carolyn has been purchasing some quilt tops on Ebay and this is one of her recent purchases. It's really done quite well, with the exception of a few segments sewn in the wrong way.
Can you find them?

 They're all in the top row of blocks.

Baptist Fan quilting goes well with the era of the fabrics, Hobbs 80/20 batting and Omni Spearmint thread.

Tis the Season for T-shirt Quilts

Mary Helen made this quilt for her grandson who just graduated. She makes a t-shirt quilt for all her grandchildren when they graduate. What a nice Grandma!

 I'm not sure why, but I didn't get any other photos of this quilt. Her method of assembly is not one I've seen before. She fuses the design area of the shirt onto fabric and zig-zags around it. Makes for a nice looking t-shirt quilt.

Just a meander with PermaCore Chambray thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting.

Quiltmaker, Turning Points Color Option

In March I worked on the Color Option of Turning Points by Carolyn McCormick for Quiltmaker. A Color Option is just a top that I assemble and send back to them to show how a published pattern might look with different fabric and values.

This one had 208 paper pieced units, 104 of the red and 52 each of the blues.

It really went together well, with only a couple seams not in the correct orientation for nesting.

The quilt is pictured in the July/August ’13 issue issue of Quiltmaker on page 23.

Projects are Packed

Tomorrow morning I head out with my friend Janet to a quilting retreat. We are planning to make a stop at Threads of Time in Danville, IL for my birthday shopping trip.

24 Hours For Me!

From Friday about 7 pm till Saturday about the same time, I spent time quilting some of the projects I had made. They aren't necessarily going to stay here, but I did make them.

First was the baby boy quilt for a co-workers son who is almost a year old. I'm a bad quilter, I know, but maybe he will appreciate it more, I don't know.

Raindrops panto, which is a free one, Hobbs 80/20 batting and white Omni thread.

Just look at this cute backing I found to give it a kid friendly look:

Second was this Quilts For Kids Sample strip quilt. I determined that 17 3.5" strips makes the right size.

Trip to the Zoo

A trip to the Columbian Park Zoo last Friday was great fun!
