Product description
Compilation of early tracks produced or remixed by the legendary Adrian Sherwood; a pioneering blend of post-punk, mutant disco, dub, funk and electro. Features The Slits, Prince Far I, The Fall and Mark Stewart. Includes 6 tracks that have never been reissued in any format, and 2 completely unreleased tracks from the On-U vaults. Extensive sleevenotes that tell the story of each track alongside photos and more.
Adran Sherwood is a name most commonly associated with dub reggae, particularly his own leftfield version of the sound that he developed over the 80s and 90s, having been mentored by the likes of Prince Far I, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Dennis Bovell, This compilation seeks to highlight another side of the story: in his capacity as a DJ and live sound engineer Sherwood also connected with the likes of The Clash, Public Image Limited and The Pop Group, and went on to work with a wide variety of artists including Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Primal Scream and Blur. The tracks on this album show how Sherwood blended a dubwise approach to versioning tracks with a desire to experiment in the studio and push musical boundaries.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 May 2015I'm not a great writer of reviews. Even less so in English.
But I just had to help rise that shameful rating average a little bit, as this is a wonderful compilation.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 June 2017The bands on this dub album are a real variety which means you are unlikely to love all the tracks. Some of the tracks are outstanding particularly the reggae based artists. The rock/dub fusion is great but labours a bit on the Slits.track. Overall the experimentation is really good to hear. The LP sleeve and inner liner notes are outstanding. Inventive and full of information.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 April 2015...I also happen to like obscure eighties indie music.
I enjoyed this CD and have a very different opinion.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 June 2015it is ok . half the tracks show their age - primitive but interesting. The Slits and Annie Anxiety still sound great.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 May 2015Magic from the master. Have been spinning this in my car for last 3 weeks. Excellent compilation for On U heads.

You can't go wrong with Sherwood... and this collection of (some of) his earliest work is a case in point. Everyone will have their favorites, but great to find the Slits, VG and the Fall all in place. Shame there was no room for Judy Nylon and Sherwood's Depeche remix, but that's what Volume Twos are for...
