Mutton Bustin'

We went to the Little Buckaroo Rodeo last night - it was kind of a very last minute thing but since Jake is on the Rodeo committee now he got the call to come help set up and what not so he signed Addi up for the Mutton Bustin'. So at about 6 we headed over there for some rodeo fun - well they changed things up this year and decided to do the Barrel Races first instead of the Mutton Bustin'... and let me tell you it was like the never ending Barrel Races. I swear there were like 70+ people that signed up for it, it was insane. So Addi played with friends & cousins (which is why there are no pictures of her below) until it was time for her to ride the sheep. She was standing on the chute waiting her turn when a good sized sheep was pulled into the chute - Jake said they put a boy on it and he said he wouldn't ride it he wanted a different sheep. Well all of the other boys wouldn't ride it either so Jake asked Addi if she would ride it at first she said no but then she said ok and got on. She didn't last very long and got a good battle wound out of it - but I was so proud of her she gets on year after year no matter what, AND she showed the boys up! :)
WTG Addi it was a good ride!

S-O-C-C-E-R

We had our 2nd soccer game of the season on Saturday - but it was Addi's 1st game played and my team did awesome! I'm coaching again this year and I've got a really good team with some talented players. Addi scored 4 goals, after I told her I'd give her $1 per goal... she's going to break the bank if she keeps that up all season - but it's well worth it! I am proud to say that every girl that was there scored at least 1 goal a piece - which was AWESOME! The other team only had 3 players, so we played 3 on 3 instead of 5 on 5 and we subbed for them as well as our own team - so the girls definitely got a work out but they had a lot of fun. I'm excited to see how good they do at the end of the season if they are doing this amazing at the 2nd game - hopefully my practices are paying off!

1st Day of 1st Grade

Well the time has finally come for school to start again - and we had a very eventful first day! 6 years ago Addi's school implemented a program called 1st day celebration - it involves 1 relative going to school with the child for the first 2 hours of school. Thankfully Shari could watch Kam while I went with Addi to her 1st day of all day school. She was so nervous last night and would not stop talking because she was so nervous. This morning she was driving me crazy telling me every 5 minutes mom we've got to go we're going to be late!! Let me tell you when I woke her up at 6:15 to start getting ready she took a 5 minute shower.... and anyone who has been around Addi knows that's like a millisecond for her - she usually takes 30 minute showers and you basically have to FORCE  her to get out. Needless to say she was SO excited! She wanted to ride the bus so bad but since I had to go to class with her I told her she'd have to wait until tomorrow. So tomorrow she has to get up at 6 to be on the bus by 7 - my new routine means I have to be up by 5:30... yay... Anyways, we got to school and found her seat she colored a picture while we waited for all of the kids to arrive. Then we made "Wanted" posters - the theme in their school this year is "The Best in the West" so it's all cowboy/cowgirl themed. (She of course LOVES this) So we made a poster with her picture, her Alias name, what she wants to be when she grows up, and what she was wanted for. (The things she is good/excels at) All of the school is making these and they'll be hung a long the walls in the school. After that we went to an assembly where the staff put on a play where they rode horses and "herded" cows (parents). They talked about bullying and how you need to stick up for kids that are being bullied - the staff informed us that they would be doing a social interaction play once a month until the end of school. I think this is an AWESOME idea - they should have it in EVERY school. When the assembly was over we went to a classroom where we all learned a line dance (students & parents) for the school to perform. We practiced for about 35 minutes and then headed to the football field to perform, the parents sat in the stands while all of the classes (K-6) performed the line dance on the football field. It was a lot of fun, and I had no idea how big a deal this 1st day was - I mean the stands were FULL of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers/sisters and family friends. Next year I'll have to invite everyone who can come to it because it was great and Addi felt MUCH better about having me there with her on her 1st day. I cannot believe how grown up she is - I got a little teary eyed but kept my compsure so I wouldn't embarass her. I don't know what it is about those life changing moments that really make you stop and go "Oh my gosh, what happened to my baby!" but they sneak up on you.

She came home and reported that her first day was "AWESOME!" I asked her what her favorite thing was and she said, "Mom, we get 3 recesses from now until highschool! That is one more than we had last year... and that is so cool!" She also made some new friends (of course) and was glad to see a lot of her old friends from last year. The "Relief Society Group" (Iris, Addi & Milee) were split up a little this year and only Iris is in Addi's class. But, she is very excited to ride the bus because Milee will be on there and they are already talking about saving each other seats. She is going to have homework EVERY night and she has to read at least 160 books this year (which is EASY) but she really loved the math games they have been playing in class. I'm excited to see how far she comes this year - Mrs. Johnson is an awesome teacher and she is super nice. Luckily Addi knew her from before because her daughter is in Addi's clogging class, so she wasn't AS scared to start school. Good luck Addi I know you'll do so great!

Viva Las Vegas

Over the weekend Jake and I enjoyed a nice, very short getaway to of course Las Vegas! We went down Saturday afternoon and went shopping at the outlets for an hour or so to find Jake some new tennis shoes. Then we went to Bass Pro Shops to look for some face paint for S.W.A.T. school this week, while we were there we day dreamed about the boat we're going to buy some day and had fun checking everything out. After that we went to our hotel to check in - we stayed at the Luxor which I love because of the elevator ride! (The beds and the motel are nice too but the elevator is fun!) After we checked in we got ready to go to dinner and hit the town - we went to the PBR Bar & Grill for dinner. I had never heard of it/seen it before and it was a nice little find. They had a mechanical bull that people could ride before/during/after dinner and they took photos of you, 1 was complimentary and you could choose to buy another one afterwards. They had the most amazing Fried Pickles and of course played country music which was a big change for Vegas! After we finished up we walked down the strip took some pictures with Darth Vader & the guys from the Hangover. We headed towards Treasure Island to watch the Pirate show - but then it started to rain so we went into Ceaser's Palace and did a little shopping and Jake did a little gambling (won $110) while we were waiting for the rain to stop. After that we headed to the Bellagio to watch the water show and after that was done we headed back to our Hotel, we ducked into the Cosmopolitan when it started to rain again and I really want to go back there! They had these gorgeous chandeliers and it was very.... sparkly! All in all it was a very fun getaway and I can't wait to do it again!
