Happy Earth Day!

Top 5 Easy Tips to Go Green:

1. Cut down on food waste!

Every year, Americans end up throwing away almost $90 billion dollars worth of food! To cut down on waste, consider pre-planning your week’s meals so that you don’t buy more food than you need, and make sure to take home and eat any leftovers from restaurants.

2.Re-use plastic shopping bags or bring your own reusable bag!

If you grocery shop once a week, in five years you’ll have kept about 250 to 1,000 grocery bags out of our landfills. When one ton of plastic bags is reused or recycled, the energy equivalent of 11 barrels of oil is saved!

3.Unplug when not in use.

By unplugging things like chargers, hair dryers, toasters, and other similar items, you’re not only saving electricity (which is good for the environment and saving you money), you’re taking a good strep towards preventing potentially-damaging electrical fires!

4. Find an alternative way to get there.

Whether it’s school or work, chances are there’s a more environmentally friendly way to get to your daily destination. Even if you chose to only do so once a week, that can add up to make a big difference! Biking or walking is a great way to get your exercise on, and carpooling is another great way to save gas money and help cut down on fuel emissions.

5.Get off the bottle.

Do you drink a lot of water? Is it bottled? Think of how that might effect the environment. With four bottles fulfilling your recommended daily intake, that’s a lot of bottles. Almost 1500 a year! Hopefully you’ve been recycling, but even better would be to invest in a water bottle that comes with a filter so that you can use tap water anywhere with the same great taste that you’d have from a plastic-packaged bottle.
