About Me:

My name is Kayla. I am a native Oregonian who has been a fan of classic film and television ever since I discovered I Love Lucy on Nick at Nite in 1994 when I was 10. From then on, I was obsessed with I Love Lucy and everything I Love Lucy-adjacent, but especially Lucille Ball.
A regular visitor of my city library, I read every single book about Lucille Ball that I could get my hands on. From these books, I learned that Lucy had had a film career before she was on television. Luckily for me, my library had a large number of her films on VHS available for rental. I borrowed and watched every single one. From her films, I discovered new favorite classic film actors and actresses.
I decided to make my blog, Whimsically Classic, because I wanted a place to write about my love of classic film and television. Whimsically Classic’s predecessor was my I Love Lucy Geocities fan page (TelevisionCity/3028), which I maintained from 1996-2000. I selected the name “Whimsically Classic” because I wanted something a little nonsensical so I didn’t pigeonhole myself into writing about a specific topic. I like the word “whimsical” because it’s a fun word and leaves me with a lot of room to write about whatever topic. “Classic” is an ode to my love of classic film and television.

- SOURCE: Library, DVDThis was a film that I borrowed from the library a way back and I'm watching it because it's due soon–no more renewals. This film intrigued me because it apparently featured an appearance of someone impersonating Humphrey Bogart, who serves as somewhat an advisor to Woody Allen's character. In this film, Woody Allen plays […]
- SOURCE: Personal Collection, Kino Lorber Blu RayThis was a blind buy that I got awhile back. Talk about a misleading title and poster. There is no "Bad Girl" in this film, there isn't even a "mischievous girl." I was hoping for something a lot more scandalous based on the title and poster. In this film, Sally […]
- SOURCE: Personal Collection, Eureka Masters of Cinema Region B blu rayApparently, Saturday was the day of watching never seen before animated films from 1982. After seeing "The Last Unicorn," I couldn't believe that I'd never seen another beloved animated classic, "The Secret of Nimh." This film, visually was much more stunning and beautiful than "The […]
- SOURCE: The Hollywood Theatre, Portland, ORThis film was screening last week at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland. I can't believe I had never seen this before, especially since it's attained cult status. I thought I was all over the cartoons of the 1980s, but this day, I learned I most definitely was not. In this […]
- SOURCE: TCMI recorded this during last October's "Creepy Cinema" with Mario Cantone and Ben Mankiewicz. This film isn't really creepy in the traditional sense, but it's definitely uncomfortable and quite scandalous, even for 1932. There are a lot of versions of "Rain" or "Sadie Thompson" as it is often called. The original short story, "Miss […]
