Gaynors SAL

Today I joined Gaynors' Stitch-a-long! I'm excited! I've never been part of anything like this before so I'm a complete novice! This is the kit I'm doing ........Image
Its in memory of my Nan who died in April 2008. This scene reminds me of visiting Portland Bill lighthouse when we stayed with Nan during the Easter holidays every year! And I'll be keeping it myself once completed :-)
Today I received 3 kits through the post, from Gaynor, my prizes in a free draw she did just before Christmas! I'm thrilled to bits with them all!!
Here are the 3 kits, along with my new lighthouse kit again, I only had that delivered yesterday too :-) Image
I'm all set for a stitchy 2009!!

Normality setting in!

Boo hiss!!! Back to work tomorrow! Bleurgh!! OK, its' only for 1 day, but still!
We have had one of the best Christmastimes and I just don't want it to end! As you all probably know by now, we don't have much money, BUT, we had a wonderful family Christmas within our means, and because we didn't have reams and reams of presents, what we DID receive were so much more appreciated, so all the more special for it :-)
Ryan got a Wii for Christmas, Which is fntastic fun, and sooo addictive! It had Wii sport free with it and he also got some other games as gifts from family. Now if any of you out there also got a Wii in your household this Christmas, then I'm sure you'll know what I mean when I say Frank and I have serious cases of "Wii-arm" !!
True to form the boys are much better than me at everything, but then again they get more practice!
Chritmas day we enjoyed a traditional Christmas dinner, well if you swap a chicken for the turkey! Then my Mum and Dad and Bro-in-law came round Christmas evening to experience Wii-arm for themselves :-)
Boxing day was fab, just the 3 of us, didn't even bother to unlock the front door! Having fun with all Ryans new toys, Frank spent 5, yes 5! hours Putting together a "K-nex" rollercoaster! I was hiding in the kitchen!
Saturday 27th was simply brilliant! We went round to Mum and Dads, My Brother Mark, his wife Charlie and my Nieces Leah and Chloe were up for 2 days so it was fantastic to spend the day with them!Frank doesn't usually go, but came this year and just had the best time. Everyone agreed it was a wonderful day and we can't wait to all meet up again!
Today I've had a little sewing time, but mostly have cleaned, washed everything in the laundry basket and tried to find homes for all the new toys and my lovely new smellies!
Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and we wish you and your families all the very best for the New Year ahead.
Its' been such a pleasure making friends with you all during 2008, and long may these wonderful bloggy friendships continue during 2009!

Love these new fairy designs, will be using these again for sure!

Tiger Woods?

Today, after work, I took Ryan to our Millenium Green, just a little green patch by our house really, sounds far more impressive than it actually is!
He loves to practise his golf techniques! We hope to be getting him some proper Junior Clubs in the January sales as he's loving Golf at the moment :-)
Image
Blew some cobwebs off him, as he was going stir crazy in the house! As usual it started to rain though, which put an end to us re-enacting the British Open!
Have very little progress with AOY, just not getting time to sit down and concentrate properly.
Image
Also, Following some colourful name calling we overheard today, I had to explain to my 7 year old BABY what being Gay means.
Sometimes I'm astonished at how different the world is from when I was 7 years old!

Soooooo Proud !!!!

Yesterday I got a text message from Ryans' school to inform us that he had been awarded "Student of the term"!!
When I saw this certificate I cried like a baby! And so did my Mum when she saw it!
If its' not clear from the photograph, this is why Ryan was awarded it:
"He has a lovely attitude to those around him,he is a bright spark who always puts every effort into producing the best work he possibly can.He always brings his homework on time!We are really proud to have him as a member of our team! He is a lovely boy to teach - always keen to do jobs to help out. WHAT A BELTER !!!!"

Image

How good is that!!! That made us simply BURST with pride!!
Sorry for showing off!!
Oh and my sewing has gone out of the window as my sewing lamp has gone pop! :-( Its too dark to sew without it!
Have a great weekend folks!!!

We have Wheels!

Image

Indeed we do! Really enjoying this little AOY, I'm sure when I hit the backstitch or blocks of white, I won't be quite so enthusiastic!!
Ryan had a great day out at the museum, he liked the Egyptology exhibit, and the football (Soccer) exhibit, but his favourite (as always) was the Bug house!
They also walked over to Liverpools' conservation centre, we have lots of historic buildings and statues in this old City, and the Conservation centre takes care of all these. The school children however, were set to work creating their own names using Egyptian Hieroglyphics ,he enjoyed doing that, and continued doing so when he came home from school! Image

I sat watching "Bridget Jones' Diary" and "Pretty Woman" until 1.30am last night! and as I get up at 5.30am, am suffering for it now! Off to bed with my book!

Wend...xxx

P.S. I did have to google to find out the correct spelling of Hieroglyphics!!

Party Anmal and progress!

Well Ryan had a great time yesterday at his Beavers party! He met a boy there that he went to nursery with and was chatting with him, I'm so proud that he made the first move and went up to talk to this guy, I'm always a little worried that he'll be a little shy being an only child, but his confidence has come on leaps and bounds lately :-) He had a great time at the party and came home with a selection box present !
Today he had a party in school, he had a fun time dancing and playing musical chairs and even won a prize! Brought home some pencils, sweets and a football pad, he was chuffed to bits!
My "Date" with Jackie unfortunatly fell through for a number of reasons, we'll set another date in January to meet up instead, I had a nice afternoon shopping and having coffee with Mum, and then finished the last of my Christmas cards and did a little stitching on my AOY. I'm determined to finish her hat tonight!!

Hope you all had a nice day too! Now go check out the great giveaway on GAYNORS blog my stitchy friends! ..xx..

You Should Have a Blue Christmas Tree

Image

For you, the holidays represent a time of calm, understanding, and peace.

You avoid family fights, and you don't get too stressed out - even when things are crazy!

You like to make Christmas about making everyone's life a little bit better.

You don't get caught up in greed or commercialism. You're too sincere for that.

Your blue tree would look great with: Lots of silver tinsel

You should spend Christmas Eve watching: It's a Wonderful Life

What you should bake for Santa: Chocolate chip cookies

O Little town of Bethlehem.......

Image

The old work/life balance is getting a little tough at the moment, I have hardly any time just now to stitch and keep up with blogs! So sorry you guys, will catch up at the weekend!! Not that I'm doing anything particularly exciting, before you start expecting some sort of amazing post! Just sometimes life gets in the way huh!! :-)
Got this card mounted and finished this afternoon, and was planning on starting an AOY design, only a weeny one, Have no white aida left!!Can you believe it! I'm not lucky enough to have a big stash waiting for me, BUT Coincidentally, in the £1 shop yesterday I spotted a cross stitch kit, the design was pretty yakky, but £1 for the aida and threads is Good!! UPDATE - Crumpets and posting letters!

Image
OK so I copied this from Wikipedia! I can't quite explain one myself, so here goes!
....
A crumpet is a savoury/sweet bread snack made from flour and yeast. It is eaten mainly in the United Kingdom, but also in the nations of the Commonwealth.
Crumpets are generally circular though rectangular varieties also exist. They have a distinctive flat top covered in small pores and a resilient, slightly spongy texture, being very porous. Crumpets alone are bland and generally eaten hot with a topping (usually butter). Other popular accompaniments include cheese when melted on top of the crumpet, poached egg, jam, Marmite, marmalade, honey, peanut butter, cheese spread, golden syrup, lemon curd, and maple syrup.
....

April - You commented on me going to post my letters, How do you send yours? I'm actually not sure how ya'll do it over there, we buy stamps so the postage is pre paid, then post them in letterboxes that are dotted everywhere.
The letterboxes get emptied once or twice a day and the letters are all taken to a sorting office to be sorted for National or International delivery.
Image
This postbox is in the Albert dock, here in Liverpool.

Afternoon Tea and Boob Wars!

One of my favourite things in the afternoon, if I have time ( Which is rare, But Ryan has gone to Mums this afternoon) is to snuggle with a good book (ie. Eclipse in this case), with the fire lit, and some steaming hot tea and buttered crumpets. Bliss!

Image

I did have plans to go visit my friend Jackie this evening, but as my tummy has been a little temperamental today, we've decide to meet up next Monday instead. Shall look forward to that :-)
I actually got round to writing most of my shop bought Christmas cards last night and posted them off this morning, I'm now starting to write the more special, hand sewn cards and also mount a few, as I still have some unmounted! Better get a move on huh!
Also on the subject of sewing, I have to sew my Bra!!! A G A I N !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is it with these things!! this is a different one, there I was, in the supermarket comparing pasta, and ......yyyooowwwwwllllll, stabbed in the armpit by the bloody underwire! What is with thee things? I'm starting to take this personally? Maybe its' my puppies? Are they weird? Do they push the wires out in some way? Whats going on!!!Maybe for Christmas I should ask Santa for one of those huge great flesh coloured girdles!Image

The lights

Image

Image
Posted by Picasa

Late this afternoon, after we had finished decorating our tree, and had hot dogs for lunch, we decided to head into Liverpool City Centre.
We were not Christmas shopping, we're all done with that, we just wanted to see the lights and soak up the atmosphere! Unfortunatly, after this one shot of one of the tree's in the City Centre,my camera battery died!! Grrr!
They have lights along the main shopping centre streets, all Liverpool themed, from our 2 Cathedrals, the Beatles, Capital of Culture etc etc. Real pretty they are.
All of the trees planted around the City Centre have lights in too which is nice :-)
Had a lovely family evening, and Frank even cooked dinner while I watched "The X-Factor" ( Which is like American Idol)
Feeling really Christmassy now !!

Oh Christmas Tree

OK so its not 12 ft or 20ft like some I've seen, but its cute and just right for my weeny house !

Todays doings and randoms!

Image

Yet another Twirly Twee!! I'm loving this quick and easy, yet effective design, am going to mount this one in a white card trimmed with pink, to match the pink vari thread :-)
Image

I had to laugh at Bess, writing her Christmas list! She thinks she is human, as soon as we leave a chair, she jumps right on! She is very strange! She eats Olives, Loves Prawn cocktail crisps and loves marmite on toast!!
Posted by Picasa

And finally! I'm 1/2 way through already!! So glad I have Eclipse lined up ready! My friend Carmel is now hooked too and is biting at my heels for me to finish New Moon! The reason for this picture however is entirely different!
My Beloved Nan died in April, she was a keen dressmaker, that was her career and as her failing health made her increasingly housebound she turned her talents to cardmaking, even up until the week she died, aged 93!!
As well as other reminders of her I inherited what was called her crafty box of junk! This consisted of all different cardmaking thing, trimmings, ribbons, pieces of lace, as well as about 10 sticks of glue!
I decided to use some of her Stash, thats what she would have wanted me to do, however the little lengths of lace and ribbon I use as bookmarks.I love having a little bit of her with me every day!
So this is Nans Lace!
Well..... I think its a cool idea anyhow!
And just an update, Ryan has been much better this week, he still attends Beavers and Golf, but maintained he really didn't like the sports club that he quit last week, so we allowed him to leave.
We can advise and support him, but the last thing I want is for him to be forced into doing stuff he really doesn't like.
He is far happier and the little tic thing he has going on, is much less noticeable.
Mummy and Daddy are far happier too !

Jingle Bells and Twirly Tree's

Image

OK, so yes I did finish 2 pieces today, BUT I can only post one!!
One piece is for my Friend Krystal, her Birthday is late December and I need to be sending her cards soon! As an avid follower of my Blog ( And me hers) I cannot post until after her Birthday!
But onto my little twirly tree!
I've admired all these little twirly tree's my friend Shellie has been posting,so cute, so today she photographed one of her sewn pieces, sent it to me, I've zoomed on my PC and followed the pattern from that ! Way to go !!!
Photo is not that clear, but it is on Navy blue aida, and used lilac vari thread.Hoping to mount it tomorrow and maybe do one or too more!
HOWEVER! The next 2 books in the Twilight series were delivered today, so I'm guessing I'll have my nose stuck in a book for at least the next few days!
Just found out that the UK release date for the film is Dec 19th, I gave the book to my friend Carmel this morning, she has just texted me to say she has read the whole thing and is now googling the movie!!Image
Ryan made this lovely little Jingle Bell ornament in Beavers tonight ready to hang on our tree, I just love it!! It sounds like sleigh bells such a beautiful noise for this time of year! Next Tuesday he has his Beavers/Cubs Christmas party :-)
Well, off to lose myself in Edward Cullen! (sighs)
