airport scenes
Nov. 1st, 2008 | 12:12 am
mood:
bored
I was in the airport as early as 4:00am sometime last month. I was with my mother to send off my youngest sister to Manila for a weeklong training at her work. The flight is at 6:00am yet but my sister was so anxious she didn't want to be left behind and that her boss told them to be around at exactly 4:00am. Of course, the boss arrived late! Anyways, while waiting, lots of thoughts came rushing to my mind as i saw travellers and employees alike coming in and out of the gates.
Airports can take part in a lot of moments in our lives and feelings in our hearts. That is very well depicted in the movie The Terminal starred by Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
In the corners of my mind, i think:
- if i travel, i think my clothes won't be enough for the allowable weight of luggage. You see, it is not easy to just pick from my favorite ones. I don't understand that famous cliche on travelling light. I can't travel light, huh! How's that possible?!?
- airports can turn into a fashion runway. Some people arrive in their best suits, some sport their most comfortable shorts and shirts duo. Some wear their skimpiest outfits while others will don some prissy pieces. And believe me, i saw someone wearing something close to a gown! There's also someone who puts on a long sundress, i think she's about to go the beach? She looked pretty on it though.
- airports can be both happy and sad. Imagine this, someone has to leave and someone has to be left behind. Need i say more?
- airport is a destination in itself. It is where recollection can happen and it is also where farewells commence.
- i should travel. But i don't have money, so, there you go.
I'm really excited at the thought of flying again. I wanna see myself in the crowd fondly pulling my luggage and checking how i look. Oh, i can't wait!
Well, shall i see you in the airport?

69,500
Oct. 21st, 2008 | 12:44 am
69,500. That's not a plain figure. I'm neither just refering to a plain number. I'm actually talking about a whooping 69,500 amount of money in peso denomination. Probably not too much right? But hey, if i say i just bought a P69,500 bag. Would you be awed? Well, i did not buy anything for that amount. I can't afford it! Toinks! But i read in a magazine about bags owned by celebrities. I think i felt dizzy converting the dollar values to pesos. A bag worth $1500.00???
If i have that amount of money, that would either let me:
1. travel to two Asian countries. Hongkong and Singapore. Singapore and Thailand. Thailand and Hongkong. I just have to make my choice. Or just one country maybe if i'll go shopping.
2. send my younger sister to college for maybe about 2.5 years.
3. buy at least 50 local bags. See i can go a month with different bag each day.
4. buy at least 50 local shoes. Wow! I can be a little Imelda with this.
5. buy new sets of clothes. Whoaah no-uniform-days will be very exciting!
6. eat in Shangrila everyday for a month. Huh! I've been wanting to go there. Hmnnn.
7. go to Palawan and Boracay again.
8. go to more local tourist destinations - Club Serena, Abaka Resort, Plantation, Shangrila.
9. go to America or Europe! (friends from there will feed me, heheh!)
10. pay off my debts most importantly. LOL!
But if someone gives me a P69,500 bag, i'd be more than willing to accept it! :D

mother instincts or paranoia?
Oct. 12th, 2008 | 12:42 am
I'm not yet a mother and I can't seem to distinguish - help me identify if you can. Let me cite two situations for your judgement.
Situation #1:
I was in a children's party (sort of) organized by a colleague who wanted to celebrate his birthday with the kids in Tabor Hills, a community somewhere in Talamban. One mother was cheering for his son who joined in one of the games while carrying an infant at the same time. The infant was resting on her shoulder and she could not see what the infant was doing. The poor infant was trying to open a jelly candy using his one hand and his mouth. I was so alarmed when i saw the baby! What if he choked and the plastic must be dirty! I was thinking, why is the mother not paying attention to her baby? I tapped the mother's shoulder and told her to watch for her baby. The mother just gave me a look i can't identify and lazily got the candy from her baby's hand. Huh! What if! What if the baby choked!?
Situation #2:
Was inside a jeepney on my way home and then 3 passengers embarked - a mother tagging along 2 boys, ages 4-7 maybe. I assume 'twas her sons. They sat at the corner, rear of the jeepney near the steps. The boys were seated at the rear end and i was in front of them. In the middle of the trip, i noticed that the boys were sleeping and they would tend to dislodge everytime the driver made a sudden stop or turn. I was so horrified they might fall from their seats and roll. I took a look at the mother who was just sitting calmly. She didn't even bother to put her arms in front of the kids to at least protect them. A few more minutes and i can't take the rather dangerous scene in front of me anymore. I told the mother, "hey, your kids are sleeping, watch out for them, they might fall." I thought i sounded like a 45-year-old woman who had so much experience around kids. The mother did not respond and she just sat still! I was irritably disgusted. The mother must have noticed my furious look and she gave out a sigh and an expression all the more i couldn't identify like the mother in situation #1. I thought, for a moment she just gave me an attitude and then she extended her hand to hold the jeepney railing. Her right hand now in front of her kids. That's when i felt a bit relieved. What if! What if the kids fall from the jeepney!?
Now, tell me what it is. Mother instincts or plain paranoia or is it something else?
