- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2012Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseJust like any well-endowed man, there is way more to Freyr than his penis! This book is a well-researched, thoroughly cited work on Freyr that takes him out of the box of 'fertility God,' and informs the reader of his many wonderful attributes. Concise and to-the-point, the author did a wonderful job and a service to Freyr by taking the time to create such a great piece and sharing it with the world.
"Ari the Fruitful," HA!

How ever , she does get some things wrong ....
First of all Yngvi& Freyja are Brother /sister Twins....not just older brother...younger sister
As twins they are associated with the zodiac sign of Gemini...
Yngvi is a solar God, not only of sunishine....
Please Miss Sheffield if you do write a book about Tyr...
do some more research!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2019Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis was a well-researched, inspiring, and very readable book. As a modern Heathen, I appreciated the author’s careful scholarship and her attempts to answer an important question: “what is Frey’s role in a post-modern world?” I’d heartily recommend this book to any neopagan or to anyone interested in European mythology.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2014Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseA very well put together, yet short, work on the god Frey. For people who don't know a lot about him or even those who already know a lot but want maybe something a bit different, this is a great work. Although it is primarily for those with limited knowledge on the god.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2009Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseTo me, it doesn't matter the length of the book, just as long as the information is adequate. As one with a new respect and admiration for Frey (as well as Freyja), I found this book to be quite sufficient. It did what some books are meant to do; that is, tweak an interest into further studies. Soon enough I'll be reading the Heimskringla, in which this book mentions a few times concerning the Ynglinga Saga.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2015Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseInteresting, but lacking the Saami "Veralden Rad" information. Frey was singularly important not only to the Scandinavians (and down into Frisia as Ing), but also to the Saami. Veralden Rad ("World Man") gave the spirit to a fetus, and Sar Akka gave the flesh. IMHO a second edition with more research will prove to be a really good study.
