2D or not 2D

With the latest installment in the Hobbit trilogy due for release this week, I’ve been left with the decision of whether to see it in 2D or 3D, or even high frame rate 3D. I saw the first part in high frame rate and thought it was a definite improvement on standard 3D films, however my wife said she thought it made it look too real, like watching an episode of Eastenders. She felt it took the cinematic feel away from the film which being a fantasy film needed to be there.

Are games being dumbed down?

I was talking to a friend of mine recently about the fact that games seem to be getting much easier to complete. I’ve thought about it before and wondered if I was simply getting better at them after years of practice, but after struggling with some retro games this definitely isn’t the case.

The reason for a lot of games is that the campaigns are getting shorter. I am a big fan of the story behind the games, but with more games focussing on the multiplayer side, and the upcoming Microsoft game Titanfall having no single player at all I am worried that the story could be a thing of the past.
