Sony Keep getting it right

I read recently that Sony only make £11 profit from each PS4 they sell. I thought this was incredible when you think of the demand for the console. But don’t be fooled if you think this is a sign of them getting into the Christmas spirit and covering the cost for the consumer, this is another example of their brilliant business strategy.

The title for king of the 8th Gen console has only just begun (sorry Nintendo) and when you are shelling out for a new console, £80 difference makes the decision a lot easier. Once consumers have invested,  there will only be a small percentage of people who will then invest in another, at least until a drop in price. This means that Sony will likely keep their existing fans, entice a few new ones, and dare I say it, convert some XBox fans. Continue reading

PS4 Hits The Shelves – Have You Got Yours?

Following on from my last post, the PS4 has finally arrived. This means that the next gen consoles are now technically the current gen consoles. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to bag either an XBox One or a PS4 on their release, so for the time being I will have to watch with baited breath as they battle it out.  I’m going to feel like someone who has missed out on an amazing party, over the next few months. Trying to join in with conversations, but not knowing the inside jokes.

I can imagine there are loads of people who have been disappointed they haven’t got either console yet, but will be surprised on Christmas day when they find one under their tree. I’d like to think that the release of the new consoles means bargain prices for the older ones, but I know that it is unlikely new games prices will drop for these anytime soon. Sony and Microsoft already have a huge customer base and won’t want to attract potential next gen buyers away by reducing prices too much. Continue reading

The Next Gen Is Upon Us

Unless you’ve been living under a bridge, you may have noticed that there are a couple of new consoles about, namely the PS4 and the XBox One.  This isn’t going to be an actual review on either of them because unfortunately neither Sony nor Microsoft sent me a free console to trial for them; I was as surprised as I’m sure you are. If anyone happens to have a console they would like me to review, let me know and I can tell you where to send it.

There seems to be a lot of arguments about which one is going to be better than the other one and people don’t seem to be focusing on all of the good points, but ranting about what’s wrong with them. You can’t help but have a preference over one or the other, but that’s all it is. One doesn’t have to be useless for the other one to be good. If there was only one console about then there would be no competition and both the consoles and games would suffer as a result.

I will definitely be getting one of them once the dust settles and probably both once the price drops, but until then I am excited to see what each company does to try to outdo the other. My main console at the moment is the PS3, so I am not worried about it becoming redundant, as I expect Sony will do what they did with the PS2 and keep releasing PS3 games until the PS5 is nearly here.

I have read a lot of reviews on the XBox One which seem to say that all of the ideas they have come up with are amazing, but they haven’t quite pulled them off, making it more of a concept console at the moment. If this is true then I can see the PS4 coming out strong from the blocks, despite the XBox one having arguably the stronger launch titles out of the two. Then the XBox coming back strong like Rocky, but that is only something which time will tell.
