On the normal, day-to-day basis, I don’t listen to much music. But a couple of weeks ago, Brodacious introduced me to Spotify and has let me use his account to browse around and listen to anything that suits my fancy. Pete Seeger is what has suited my fancy- I’ve listened to all five volumes of American Favorite Ballads and loved it. I kept waiting to hear that old mining folk song Sixteen Tons pop up somewhere in the collection. Doesn’t it qualify as a favorite old American ditty? For whatever reason, it didn’t quite make the cut, but it was still a great collection.
One great side effect of all my Pete Seeger listening is that now Brodacious’ Last.fm account shows that Pete Seeger is his favorite artist. Oddly enough, he’s not really amused by that. It makes me smile, though. I’ve also been filling his playlist with Tom Waits, Nina Simone and others. I’ve had a lot of great listening from our front room, the bed room, and occasionally the kitchen (depending on our wireless reception…).
