Before Jeffrey and I got married I asked him if he'd still love me if I got fat. Doesn't everyone ask that question? He said he would, and of course that was the right answer. Of course that means I still have to love him, even though he's gained some weight in the 21 years we've been married. I'm not calling him fat, just saying that there is more of him than there used to be. He blames it on me and my cooking, but it really has to with the fact that he stopped being physically active in his job and went to sitting behind a desk. That and he likes his junk food - candy, soda, sugary stuff like that.
At one point he joined a 'diet club' at work that was mainly a competition to see who could lose the most weight in a certain number of weeks. He won that competition, but once it was over, he went back to his old habits - not right away, but he's back to eating the junk and drinking the soda.
Today I checked out this Cheat to Lose Diet. This diet is actually supposed to work better if you cheat or not work at all if you don't cheat and eat your favorite foods. That ought to work for Jeffrey. By signing up online - face it, he's not going to read the book - he could get all the tools he would need to lose weight. There are recipes, which I would like to see, a personal fitness plan, message boards, and more. Maybe he could find some people on the message boards to compete with. That would probably be the best thing. He hates to lose - I'm not talking about weight here. I think he'd like to lose a little weight. He just needs the right motivation.

Yes, if there's a clear separation that could work. I'm a bit worried about the freedom of religion thing too, but maybe if it was very very clear that there's a difference between the government's…
