You've Got to be Kidding

I saw this on Good Morning America this morning. An all-female law firm in Chicago put up this billboard stating, "Life's Short. Get a Divorce." The billboard, which has since been taken down, showed the six-pack abs of a headless male torso and tanned female cleavage in a black lace bra. What was this billboard trying to say? Get a divorce, and this could be yours?  As if there aren't enough divorces in this country, lawyers have to advertise to get business?  Currently, about 50% of marriages in the U.S. end in divorce, and that statistic is only for first marriages.  The percentage goes up for second and third marriages.  I would think those lawyers are already very busy.  I also think it's sad that some people never find someone to marry, while others are marrying and discarding spouses left and right.

About the billboard, I'm going to have to agree with Rick Tivers, a clinical social worker at the Center for Divorce Recovery in Chicago, when he says, "It trivializes divorce, and I think it's absolutely disgusting."

Marriage and divorce have already been trivialized by the entertainment industry and media in this country.  Sad.

And it's an anonymous posting. Those drive me crazy, and I shouldn't read unsubstantiated writings. And one anonymous account shouldn't be set as the standard for millions. I could give an equally…

I wrote a college paper (and failed the class as the prof was a lesbian) on homosexual unions. At the time there was a big kerfluffle on how the ancient church used to ordain homosexual marriage and…

Yes, if there's a clear separation that could work. I'm a bit worried about the freedom of religion thing too, but maybe if it was very very clear that there's a difference between the government's…
