I went downstairs for something. Got down there, and couldn't remember what I was there for. I put away some Halloween candy, decided we have too much of it, but it was 75% off. Here's a tip for ya' - if you are going to celebrate holidays, do it a week or so late. That way everything holiday-related is marked way down, and you can save a lot of money. Even if you're not gonna celebrate, it's a good time to get cheap candy.
When I made it back upstairs and walked into the kitchen, I remembered why I went to the basement in the first place - juice! I need to get a can of juice out of the freezer. Juice sounds good.
Now, before I forget again - back to the basement.
Jeffrey went to Baraboo for work on Friday. He left without his glasses. At least that's what he thought. So he worked all day without them. Once he got home, he started looking to see where he had left them, and he could not find them. Anywhere. And he looked everywhere. No glasses. No case. Remember, these are the new glasses that he just bought - and he lost them already. At least he got two pair.
He never found the glasses the whole weekend, but when he went back to work on Monday, there they were on his desk, waiting for him. He had taken them off when he left work on Thursday, and laid them down. Thought he put them in his pocket? Either way, at least they were there, and he did not actually lose a pair of brand new glasses.
Then, this morning, he called from work. He wanted me to go downstairs and check his gym bag. Why? Just check the front pocket. Is there anything in there? You mean your wallet? Yeah, that.
He went and played basketball last night, and he left his wallet in the gym bag. He cleaned everything else out of the bag and took the bag down to the basement. He got dressed and left for work this morning, and didn't notice he hadn't put his wallet in his back pocket - until he went to put gas in the car...
I think we got quite a bit accomplished today. It was a beautiful day for being outside. Hard to believe that it is the first of July and only in the 70's with blue sky and sunshine. I expect the sunshine, just not the perfect temperatures. Mind you, I am not complaining.
We've been trying to get things planted and mulched in all the raised areas around the house. Today we decided to take care of the plants on the other end of the house, under the kitchen window. A few years back I planted some hostas there, and they had really spread out and covered the area. Last summer when Jeffrey put the walls in and started filling everything with dirt, we didn't do anything along there - except for building the stone wall up. I really don't know when the right time would have been or even if it can work, but I wanted to dig the plants up, fill the area with dirt, and then replant them. We just ran out of time last summer/fall and didn't do it. Finally today I started digging them, only to find that the dirt was rock hard and I really couldn't dig any up. I got a few with at least pieces of root on them, so I put them all in a dishpan with some dirt and lots of water and set them in the shade while Jeffrey filled the dirt in. There were a whole lot of others that just got pulled out and tossed. After he got the dirt in, I planted all the plants I had in the dishpan and watered them with some quick start stuff. So now I'll just have to wait to see if any of them survive. Considering the original plants didn't cost me anything, I guess it will be ok whatever happens, but it will just be a shame if they all die because they were just so happy before. While I was at it, I watered all the plants we planted last week with more of the Quick Start stuff, because you're supposed to do it when you transplant them and then a week later. Some of the bushes on the end of the house were starting to look kind of wilty about the middle of the week, but we watered them good, and by today they were looking much better.
We went to Walmart to get more mulch after I got those planted. I also bought two more clearance pepper plants because, when I went out to the garden this morning, I found one of mine broken off. The top had just been snapped off and was sitting there. There are still two leaves on the stem, so maybe it will survive, but I don't know, so I thought I 'd replace it. We also got Papa Murphy's pizza at Walmart, so I baked that when we got home while Jeffrey put mulch down. We don't have anything planted in front of the house yet, but he put the mulch down to try to keep the weeds from growing. Then he put it all around the hostas. They made it a little harder for him because he couldn't just dump a bag of mulch in and spread it around. He had to be careful. When the pizza was done, we sat out on the driveway and ate it. Jeffrey had set a table up in the shade, but we had to move it half into the sun because I was getting cold. First of July! Absolutely beautiful in the sun.
After we ate, I went and planted the new pepper plants, pulled some weeds in the gardens, and planted some more lettuce and radishes to fill in gaps. The lettuce gaps were because they just didn't come up. The radishes were because I already pulled some of those. The radishes have been growing great. I got the sprinkler out and watered the garden for a while after that because it's been a day or so since we've gotten rain - Tuesday, I think. Or was that Wednesday? Yes, I know, I was going to keep track of these things, but I didn't. I also was going to keep track of how long we ran the air conditioner, but I'm having a hard time remembering if I turned it off Wednesday or Thursday morning. Thursday, I think, because that was the day we went to Summerfest, and the high was about 70° and I wore jeans and took a long-sleeved shirt and a sweatshirt - and ended up wearing them both. It could've been Wednesday, though, because I remember being in the house and being cold so I closed windows. This would be why I'm supposed to write things down and post them in a timely manner - so I don't forget.
Also, while I was planting and watering the garden, Jeffrey started moving the rocks behind the house so he'll be able to dig the post holes for the pergola pretty soon. Then we came in, got a shower, and haven't been doing much since. Jeffrey did draw out the pergola, and I made his lunch for tomorrow, but now I'm sitting here on the couch, with my laptop, and pretty soon it will be bed time.
I just ran downstairs to move the laundry from the washer to the dryer. I was supposed to do it before, but I forgot. I didn't hear the dryer stop. Finally I remembered, so I took the socks and stuff out of the dryer, and started moving the clothes from the washer to the dryer. I was noting how dry they were - I must've let them sit for longer than I thought. That washer certainly does spin the water out well, and then, after sitting for a while, they were practically dry and hardly needed the dryer. It wasn't until I got to the last item, a pair of Jeffrey's dress pants, that I found any moisture. I wanted to check if the spot I had treated had come clean. I thought it was really strange that the treated spot was extremely wet while everything else was so dry. It was then that I realized I had completely forgotten to start the washer!
So I took all my still-dirty clothes out of the dryer and put them back into the washer. I started it this time.
I'm changing the sheets on our bed today. I'm going to put the regular sheets back on, instead of the flannel sheets we used all winter. While I'm at it, I'm taking the electric blanket off the bed, too. I don't think we'll need that again until next winter. As I was taking the electric blanket off, I looked at it, trying to remember which way it goes on the bed. If I put it on upside down, then my controls will control Jeffrey's side of the bed instead of mine, and vice versa. Every year, when I go to put it on the bed, I can't remember which way it is supposed to go. Sometimes I get lucky and do it right. Sometimes I don't.
Today I decided to give up. I know I won't remember. So I'm posting it here. The plug and the label go on the top of the blanket.
I went downstairs this morning to get something. When I got down there I couldn't remember why I went down there in the first place and what it was I was supposed to get. It wasn't a totally wasted trip since I did decide to get some hamburger out of the freezer, and the kitchen rugs needed brought up and put back in the kitchen. They had an accident yesterday so had to be washed and dried. Still, there was something else I was supposed to get.
I just walked by the fruit basket on the kitchen counter and noticed the very ripe bananas. That was it - chocolate chips. I went downstairs to get chocolate chips to make banana muffins. Really I should go down and get them right now, before I forget again. On a positive note - besides the fact that those banana muffins are going to be wonderful - I get to make at least one more trip down and up the stairs. I seem to be up and down those stairs many many times a day. I just consider it good exercise!
