I got some of the pictures from the DCI performance last week uploaded - the outside ones, anyway. I uploaded a few to Flickr and all of them to Photobucket - DCI 2007.
Since Jeffrey's company was one of the sponsors for the event, they got some tickets, and we got them. We drove up to Cedarburg Tuesday evening. It took about an hour, and we saw some new scenery. For a while there we thought we were out in the middle of nowhere! We found the high school and then went to get something to eat at Subway. The gates opened at 6pm, but we didn't actually get back to the school until about 6:30. When we walked into the stadium, we started thinking we should have gotten there sooner because it might be hard finding a good seat. Then we noticed a couple sections that were blocked off and heard one of the Rotary members say that those were reserved for the sponsors. Guess what? That's us. Our tickets say SPONSOR right on them. So we got to sit in the best seat in the house - up at the top, right on the 50 yard line! You can't beat that. Also, there weren't very many sponsors showing up, so we had plenty of room. One of the judges was right behind us in the aisle, so we could hear him talking some, but I didn't really hear what he was saying. I really would have liked hearing it, though.
Anyway, we got to see Capital Sound, Pioneer, and Pacific Crest perform before intermission. During intermission, there was a great flash of lightning and a clap of thunder, and they decided to move everything inside. So, the second part was inside - kind of disappointing because we didn't get to see them perform on the field, but they still managed to put on a good show and rock that field house. I think it really points out that the music is essential - sure the show is fun to watch, but, if they didn't have the music to back it up, it wouldn't amount to much. Believe me, those Corps can play! We heard from Spirit from JSU, Blue Stars, Southwind, Santa Clara Vanguard, and Madison Scouts - all amazing. I'm still working on getting those pictures uploaded.
Jeffrey got us two tickets (premium seating) for the Rotary Music Festival in Cedarburg - performances by eight drum and bugle corps. His company is one of the sponsors so they had tickets available - for FREE. How cool is that? It's been years since we've actually gone to one of these. Way back before we had kids we went to the U of I for a performance and thoroughly enjoyed it. The world championships were in Madison last August, and I suggested to the band teacher that she take the marching band on a field trip. I know, it's not exactly the same as marching band, but I think it ought to get the band excited. She didn't take them, and I ended up forgetting about it and not looking to find a time we could go ourselves. There were a few people we know who ended up going. I wish I would have known! Now I hear the championships won't be coming back to Madison, so I guess we won't get that opportunity again.
This is getting to be a habit - this going out without the kids. Beth is gone, and Cory doesn't want to come. "No saxophones" Oh well. I think it's going to be awesome! He's just missing out.
